Tarte Pout Prep Lip Exfoliant Review

By Pooja Khanna

Hi all,

Today, I am going to review a product from Tarte which is called the “Pout Prep Lip Exfoliant.
I came across this product recently and thought of giving it a try as I have very dry lips that flake because of which lipsticks tend to look ugly on my lips.

Tarte Pout Prep Lip Exfoliant

Product Description:
A minty scrub and treatment balm that’s infused with hydrating maracuja, shea butter, and exfoliating sugar to gently buff away flakes and hydrate lips.

It smooths and preps lips for the perfect pre-lipstick application with suspended raw sugar granules that microexfoliate and buff away dead skin so your lips so you can simply buff, rinse, and repeat. Nourishing maracuja and shea butter sink deeply into your silky-smooth lips to help hydrate, firm, and protect lips from future drying, cracking, or chapping.
Price:
$16 for 0.6oz/17 gm.

Ingredients:
Sucrose, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Cera Alba/Beeswax/Cire D’abeille, Flavor, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cera Carnauba/Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax/Cire De Carnauba, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Passiflora Edulis Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate.

My Experience with Tarte Pout Prep Lip Exfoliant:

Packaging: It comes in a small 0.6 oz translucent jar with a hot pink lid that has lip kiss marks on the top which makes it look super cute. There is also an intermediate pull-up lid on top of the jar before the main lid which would not let the product spill out if it tends to melt in the heat. The jar is small enough and you can easily carry in a travel pouch if needed.

Fragrance and Texture: It has a fresh minty smell, which is very refreshing. Sometimes the mint smell can be strong; however, this product just has the right kind or amount of minty ness to it which makes it refreshing but not too overpowering. The base texture of the product is like that of a lip balm that feels smooth and hydrating. It has fine sugar granules in it which are supposed to help exfoliate and remove the dead skin from the lips. However, Tarte has ensured that the sugar granules aren’t so large that it becomes abrasive to the sensitive lip skin.

Usage/Results: It is recommended to use your fingers to apply this product and then buff away the product in circular motions till the dead skin is removed. Then, gently wipe off the product with a damp cloth.

I did the same and used my fingers to gently buff it on my lips. It felt really smooth and the granules are of the appropriate size and felt as if they were doing something, but not rough as to harm the lips in any way. I left the product on for a couple of minutes so that the lips would absorb all the moisture from the butters and the oils in it. I gently wiped off the excess with a baby wipe after it. My lips felt very smooth and soft after using this exfoliant. I did apply a lip balm after this and went to bed. The next morning, I woke up with the most soft and kissable lips that I have ever had in a while.

The next time around, I used it before I was going to get ready. I followed the above process and then put a liquid lipstick on it. We all know that liquid lipsticks can get dry; however, I had no issues at all for almost 6-7 hours. My lipstick stayed put and my lips felt hydrated and soft. It definitely made a drastic difference in the way my lipstick looked and felt the entire day.
I definitely plan on including this as a part of my skin care aka lip care routine.

Pros of Tarte Pout Prep Lip Exfoliant:

  • Beautiful, refreshing, mint fragrance.
  • Goes on smooth.
  • Makes your lips soft and smooth.
  • The lipsticks go very smooth on it and does not dry out the lips.
  • Definitely does all that it says.

Cons of Tarte Pout Prep Lip Exfoliant:

  • It’s $16 for 0.6oz/17 gm which is on the pricier side.
  • Need to use your finger to dip in jar and take the product out which can infect the product so make sure your hands are clean before sticking fingers in it.
