Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer Concealer Review

Hello everyone,

Tarte recently launched a new collection – “Rainforest of the Sea,” which has a vast range of product for the face, eyes and lips. I snagged a few items from this range and have been trying it out for some time and have been super duper impressed with it.  This review will be on the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer Concealer in the shade “Medium.”

My Experience with Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer Concealer:

Packaging:  This product comes in a small glass bottle. All the items from this collection have these beautiful multi-color accents which looks so pretty.  The applicator of this concealer is similar to a lip gloss wand, only fatter and shorter. My initial reaction was that this will make application super difficult, but on the contrary, I find it to be very user friendly. All you need to do is dab some dots where you need and blend it out.

Blendability:  This concealer has a very thin consistency, which is not runny, yet so easy to blend. I have used both my finger tips and the Beauty Blender and had no problems with either. This blends to an even and streak-free finish and meshes with the skin with a few taps and dabs.

Coverage:  This is a medium-full buildable coverage concealer but it feels so lightweight. It does not feel like my skin is caked up with a heavy layer of makeup. It lets my skin breathe while still delivering a natural-looking coverage, enough to hide my problematic dark circles without the need to layer a color corrector first.

Shade:  I opted for the shade “Medium,” which was a perfect match for my skin tone (MAC NW22-25). I did not opt for a lighter shade, instead I went with the shade which will look the most natural. I love that this shade has a peachy undertone, perfect to cancel out the blue-purple tone of dark circles.

Finish:  This concealer leaves a very natural demi-matte finish. It sets pretty quickly on its own without the need to use setting powder on my skin, but I still will always set my concealer with a lightweight powder (currently been loving the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Powder – review coming soon) to prevent creasing and improve wear time as I do have oily eye area.

Staying Power:  This concealer wore brilliantly throughout the day, no touch-up needed. There was very minor creasing around the 8-9 hour mark, and very little shine peeking through. It felt hydrating throughout the wear but never felt greasy or oily. The balance was just right.

Scent:  This is biggest drawback of this product. It has a strong chemical scent, similar to paint. It is quite strong during the initial application, but does fade away as you blend, but if you are very sensitive to scents, this could be a deal breaker. Since I do love the performance of this product, I am prepared to get past the horrible smell.

How does this product compare to my other absolute favorite concealers, you may ask. Well, the Tarte concealer has less opaque coverage than my Naked skin concealer while it is quite similar to my Bareminerals Bareskin Concealer, I feel the Tarte version to be even more lightweight and hydrating and looks more natural (non makeup like).

Overall, I am very impressed with this product. It performs outstandingly and I could not find any major cons except the smell. I will recommend this product to everyone.

Pros of Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer Concealer:

  • Feels lightweight on the skin.
  • Natural looking, demi-matte finish.
  • Long wearing.
  • Crease proof.
  • Medium-full coverage in the thinnest layer.
  • Easy to blend.

Cons of Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer Concealer:

  • Strong paint-like smell.

IMBB Rating:
4/5 (minus point for the smell or else it would have got full marks).

  1. that is an absolute lovely before and after neha. I loved the packaging. does it look like a foundation bottle only? 🙂 I really want to give tarte cosmetics a try whenever I can get my hands on them. lovely review as always. 🙂

which eyeshadow are you wearing? It’s stunning. 🙂

    1. Yes the concealer bottle looks exactly a mini version of the foundation. Tarte makes amazing cosmetics which are cruelty free and paraben free.
The eye shadows r from the Natasha denona palette which i adore
