My Experience with Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint – Lovespell:

packaging

The lip paint comes in a traditional plastic transparent lip gloss packaging with a doe foot applicator attached to the cap. It does have a mild, cooling, minty smell and taste which seems fine to me, but it may bother some people. Overall, I find it quite user friendly and travel friendly.

texture

I picked up two shades from the range, one of which is “Lovespell”. It is a bright, blue based fuchsia pink shade; my all time favorite winter shade. It can bring an ultimate glow to your face even without any illuminator or highlighter. I wear this lip paint with just a dab of power and kajal, and still my face looks illuminated. As we have seen many brands coming up with similar liquid lipstick concept in the market, this range would give tight competition. Also, this range is comparatively cheaper. I haven’t tried all of the liquid lipsticks available in the market, but Tarte lip paint seems good enough to me.

tube and applicator

When I had first opened the lip paint, I was worried to see such dry wand. I thought I had bought a defective piece, but later on I realised that this product has a powdery formula. But then, it looks dry only in the tube as it slips comfortably on my lips. It gives intense color pay off in just one swipe, that too without tugging or settling into the lip lines. Amazing, huh? Yes gals,, it was surprising to see that I achieved full matte, fuchsia pink matte finish on my lips in just one swipe. It looked perfect even without any primer or lip liner. However, I would personally suggest using a lip liner beneath this color to add depth and to define your lips. Whenever I use MUFE 19 C lip liner, my lips look more defined and highlighted with intense and even finish.

open tube

In fact, this formula is good enough to give even finish and intense coverage on its own. But, I miss that crisp and well defined lip shape which can only be achieved with a lip liner. I am impressed to see that this formula is neither hydrating nor overtly drying for my normal-dry lips. I wear this color on well scrubbed lips as well as on normal lips, and I do not find any significant difference. It means that the formula is forgiving enough for mildly dry lips. It neither aggravates nor accentuates my lips lines. It sits comfortably on my dry lips for several hours. I am sure beauties with pigmented lips and dry lips will like this product.

wand

I do have one concern – it transfers a lot even after drying into a matte stain. It slips like velvet silk on my lips at first, transforming into a powdery matte stain after a while. It then stays put for several hours. I have seen mild transferring on my chin during meal time. The stain loses its intensity, but it does not come off with water. This stain is quite stubborn and needs a good quality makeup remover.

name

I wonder how it transfers to almost everything yet stays on for several hours with no fading. Like any matte stain, this one also becomes a bit powdery and flaky with multiple swipes. Overall, I feel that it has all of the positive properties – the gorgeous shade, non-tugging texture, long staying power and self-adjusting smooth matte finish. I am pretty interested to try out all the shades from this range now, and I highly recommend this product to every beauty junkie, especially matte makeup lovers.

Let’s sum up pros and cons:

Pros of Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint – Lovespell:

• Such a gorgeous, blue based pink liquid lipstick
• Slips effortlessly on my dry lips without tugging
• Neither hydrating nor drying
• Never accentuates my lip lines or dryness
• Intensely pigmented matte product which provide full coverage
• Creamy and lightweight formula, suitable even for pigmented lips
• Stays on for good 6+ hours
• Easy to re-touch as it does not look cakey or flaky
• Gives a powdery matte finish to my dry-normal lips
• Well priced

Cons of Tarte Tarteist Lip Paint – Lovespell:

• It has a mild minty flavor & smell
• Never sets into a smooth finish
• Has the tendency to transfer a lot
• Matte lovers might need a matte lip liner to achieve better finish

Honestly, I can easily live with these minor cons. It is no joke to see a self adjusting matte stain on lips. If you love matte stains, this is what you need to try out next; beauties looking for saucy and creamy pout might like Estee lauder Lip Potion.
