Skin type: Oily-sensitive, tending to combination (occasionally) & acne prone

Hello friends,

How are you doing today? I am here to share another latest skincare purchase with you all from brand “Tatcha”. Tatcha is a Japanese skincare brand which claims to incorporate age old Japanese traditions of using rice bran, Japanese indigo, gold, pearls, colloidal oatmeal, silk etc in their regular skincare rituals. The founder & CEO Victoria Tsai discovered this brand after suffering from acute dermatitis, developing a keen awareness about importance of ingredients used on the skin. No wonder her skincare line is selling like hot buns in market though I am still in two minds about this product. Let’s read more about Tatcha Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder.

My Experience with Tatcha Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder:

The soothing rice powder comes in sophisticated opaque and sturdy Indigo colored plastic tub packaging with narrow opening, covered with a small sliding mechanism with additional twist over cap. It does have mild rice fragrance but it is hardly noticeable. I find it pretty user friendly, hygienic and travel friendly packaging.

Tatcha Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder description

The blue/indigo colored fine powder resembles to “Rin detergent powder”, (silly me can’t find any better comparison than this). I was bit intimidated initially to see fine grainy texture but it forms intense lather on damp skin without feeling abrasive for my sensitive skin luckily. Considering my acne prone skin I simply massage it gently on skin with no scrubbing motion and it swiftly sweeps off dirt, grime, dead cells off my skin without irritating further. Post wash I always feel soft, soothed skin with no tight, stretchy feel or dryness though I do need to follow up with a hydrating moisturizer. But I won’t say that it causes any dryness or irritation to my skin it is just that my 30s skin is tending to feel drier unlike oily skin type much to my surprise!

I can notice that it takes care of dead cells, dry acne debris and/or dirt, oiliness really well while being mild on my skin as I never felt irritated redness on skin post wash. Moreover the frequency of break outs, appearance of white heads decreased significantly ever since I switched onto this rice powder in my morning and night skincare regime. However, I did face slight ill effects of using this powder twice a day in past where it caused excessive dryness on my cheeks making them dry and parched overnight. I have limited its usage to one time every alternate day and didn’t find it bothering for my skin since then; in fact it takes care of uneven skin texture, large open pores and redness on my skin quite well.

Other than facing ill-effects of using it twice regularly I haven’t found it concerning for my sensitive acne prone skin type as it never caused break outs or activated my oily glands. However, I haven’t found anything unique or worth raving either. I mean I am impressed by its mild invigorating feature but I have achieved similar results with real pre-soaked rice powder as well that too without noticing overtly dry skin even with regular usage. But then we cannot deny the fact that these rice powders come handy as compared to following up with traditional routines at times. Whatsoever I am not very convinced by its deep cleansing property either as it did helped in preventing future break outs but it did nothing for pre-existing blackheads on my nose.

In fact I find it a temporary topical exfoliating treatment on my skin as I can feel onset of fresh blemishes on my skin if I ever skip it in my regimen. It does not provide any deep pore cleansing and/or de-clogging effect to me though the pores appear bit refined and smaller but I still miss deep cleansing results, if you know what I mean? Over all I feel that it is certainly good for beauties with sensitive skin type as it never caused redness, irritation on my skin with limited usage. But we do get much better exfoliating, polishing products in market at much lower price range like my Ole Henriksen Walnut Scrub, St Ives Green Tea or Apricot Scrub to name few. Personally I won’t get it again.
