My Experience with Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder:

This product has been in a lot of “Best in Beauty lists,” and that made me really really curious to give it a go. During these harsh winter months, my skin tends to get super dry and flaky, hence winter is the time I tend to do a lot of exfoliation, at most 3 times a week.

Packaging:

This product comes in a container with a dispenser, which locks and unlocks to disperse powder. The travel-sized tub is the exact replica of the original size.

Texture:

This powder comes in 3 variations Classic (for normal-combo skin), Gentle (for dry sensitive skin) and Deep (for oily skin). I have the “Classic” version, which is the most widely and easily available.  The texture of this powder is finely milled yet it has some sort of granular action going on. I usually am accustomed and also prefer using rough exfoliants like walnut shell scrubs as I feel they give me thorough exfoliation, hence in comparison, this rice powder is very gentle. It is so gentle that I can use this every other day without fear of over exfoliation or harming my skin.

You need to use this on damp hands and face for it to lather, but it does not produce tons of it.  At most, it foams just a little bit and as you spread it on the face, that too kind of disappears, hence you do need to add water little by little to provide some sort of medium for it to spread on the face. You do need quite a bit of powder than the recommended half teaspoon. I find I need at least ¾-1 teaspoon for it to be enough for my face.

This exfoliant does not make my face feel even slightly dry or stretchy post washing. It cleanses my face thoroughly and gets rid of all the dry patches. I do not see any immediate “glow” on my face, but my face does feel smooth.

Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder

I have noticed that with continuous use since the last few weeks, my skin does look even and the dark patches left behind by acne have started to diminish (though they have not disappeared completely).

Fragrance:

This product has a very distinct scent of rice.  During application, it literally smells like I have put my face in a sack of aged rice which is not an unpleasant scent, but not my favorite scent by any means.

Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder

Overall, I do like this cleanser though I am not blown away by this exfoliator.  It is very gentle on the skin and something even sensitive skin can use. It gets rid of all the dry patches and makes my skin feel soft and smooth, but those are the results I get with most other exfoliants too. I did not notice dramatic life-changing results while using this product, but I would not say it is a bad product at all. It does come in a travel size version (which will last you for about 2-3 weeks with every other day use) if you would like to give it a go before committing to the huge expensive bottle.  I like this product enough to recommend it!

Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder

Pros of Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder:

  • Skin feels touchably smooth and soft post use.
  • Does not feel harsh on the skin at all.
  • Effective exfoliation.
  • Gets rid of all the dry patches and cleans skin.
  • Does not make my face feel dry or stretchy after use.
  • I have noticeable slight fading of my acne scars.

Cons of Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder:

  • Those who like rougher exfoliation may find this to be too gentle.
  • Smells like a bag of rice (not a bad scent, but not everybody’s favorite either).
  • I do not see any “glow” or visible difference in the texture of my skin post usage.

  1. I am so tempted to try this Neha, but the price. . . . :(.
Rice powder is such a brilliant but mild exfoliator. I use a homemade scrub and it has worked wonders for my skin.

  2. OMGG!! this should get the most interesting and creative product of the year award. sooooo want to try it. loved reading the review neha. thanks for introducing!! :))

  3. Dermalogica has something similar. Though I have decided to save my pennies and try a DIY using rice flour once I am through with my current bottle. If that does not work maybe can give Tatcha a try.
