The Body Shop Indian Night Jasmine Eau De Toilette Review

The Body Shop Indian Night Jasmine Eau De Toilette Review

I am a fan of The Body Shop fragrances in general; I find them pleasant without being overpowering. I check out the products in the perfumes aisle and then end up wandering into The Body Shop store :-). My latest pick is the Indian Night Jasmine EDT.  This is one of the perfumes among the “Scents of the World” collection released by The Body Shop in 2012. They include 5 EDTs composed of 100% organic alcohol made from sugarcane and natural extracts collected from various parts of the world. These fragrances also have fragrance mists, body lotions, shower gels and perfume oils in the same range.

My Experience with The Body Shop Indian Night Jasmine Eau De Toilette:

The EDT comes in a rectangular bottle with a little tag attached to the bottle neck with a little string, which describes the fragrance in eloquent terms, in English and French :-).  The striking feature of the bottle, however, is the background image of the Taj Mahal, supposedly on a moonlit night, with jasmine flowers in the foreground. I love this picture and it really invokes that feeling of a romantic night in a Mughal garden, with the moon shining bright above.  The lid is plain and gray, with the company name engraved on it.

Directions of use are to spritz on the neck and pulse points.  The company recommends layering with other Indian Night Jasmine products to build the fragrance. They also suggest blending two scents from the collection to create your own fragrance; now that sounds like fun!!

On first spray, you get that oriental scent the brand claims to have. The citrusy smell of the orange blossom is very evident and dominates the top notes. You also get hints of jasmine. For us Indians, it smells very “Indian” and for others, I imagine it would smell quite “exotic” :-). The description and the name is very apt, you can sort of relate to the whole Mughal princess-night garden theme :-).

As it dries down, it takes on a more sandalwood feel, and maybe it’s just me, but towards the end, it starts to resemble a talcum powder based on sandalwood. Like I said, it could probably be just me and others might find it just plain sandal 🙂

After a while, it settles into a faint vanilla-ish scent which is very weak though. I sprayed it on at noon and by 9:00 in the night, the scent was barely discernible. I assume layering it with the shower gel and body lotion will extend the lasting power, but still don’t expect wonders. It didn’t stain my clothes at all. I also don’t think it would be very effective against the hot Indian summers. Not recommended as a gift either, since this scent is of the type which you would either hate or love.

All in all, I loved the scent, although I wished it stayed on longer.  I would probably wear it to a night event.  Its also good for honeymooners for their “special” nights ;-P.

The Indian Night Jasmine range also includes a fragrance mist, body lotion, and shower gel, all reviewed on IMBB :-).

Pros of The Body Shop Indian Night Jasmine Eau De Toilette:

  • Reasonably priced.
  • Easily available at all TBS stores.
  • Attractive packaging.
  • Organic and fair trade sourced.
  • Can be layered with other products of the same range.
  • Very “Indian” scent.
  • Romantic scent, true to product claim.
  • Does not stain clothes.

Cons of The Body Shop Indian Night Jasmine Eau De Toilette:

  • Middle notes might resemble talcum powder to some.
  • Not long lasting.
  • Might not suit extreme Indian summers.

IMBB Rating:

3.5/5

Would I Recommend The Body Shop Indian Night Jasmine Eau De Toilette?

I think  will, but for selective use like I mentioned. For a full day, all time scent, I would go with another one, but this is good to have on standby, especially considering it’s not too hard on the pocket.
