The Body Shop Reviews: Seaweed Purifying Facial Cleanser, Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion, All-In-One Face Base, Cheek Colour

I’ve been a fan of The Body Shop’s lip balms for almost three years now. But being a student, I could never afford their other products, until this year when my fiance’s spoilt me rotten by bringing me The Body Shop’s goodies on every visit or taking me shopping when he’s in India. My latest TBS haul includes part of their seaweed range for combination skin, their all in one face base and their cheek colour in pink.

The Haul!
The Haul!

My skin type is combination/oily and no matter what products I use, my forehead and nose start looking shiny by afternoon. But my cheeks have dry patches on them, not only in winter but even early summer. The SA at The Body Shop (GK1, New Delhi) assured me that seaweed extracts would help me balance out the oiliniess and dryness of my complexion perfectly. This is something I have always looked for but never found in my skincare products and hence, I bought these:

The Body Shop Seaweed Purifying Facial Cleanser (Rs. 495 for 200ml) – This product promises to balance oil for a “soft matte complexion” and to remove oil and make up without drying skin or clogging pores. Did it live up to its promise? Yes and no. I was pleasantly surprised by its consistency – it spread on my skin almost like a lotion and felt soothing. It also has a very light fragrance which I liked very much. It was very gentle on my skin and did not leave my skin feeling taut like a lot of cleansers for combination/oily skin do. It also left my skin relatively shine free all day. It was only by evening that my nose and forehead got a little shiny, but nothing a few tissues could’t take care of!However, this cleanser is not the best at removing make up. I had to cleanse my face twice to get it completely make up free and still had to use almond oil to remove mascara. So I’m using it only once every morning. And my skin is happy!Would I repurchase? Yup. At least until I find a cheaper alternative!

The Body Shop Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion SPF 15 (Rs. 895 for 50 ml) – This “hydrating and cooling gel-like” lotion promises to control shine and excess oil while moisturising the dry areas of the face.Did it live up to its promise? Nope. This is not gel-like! It felt slightly heavy and greasy on my skin although it didn’t leave the dreaded whitish cast that a lot of sunscreens do. Nevertheless, my skin felt greasier than I’d like and it negated the clean feeling that the facial cleanser left me with. However I’d paid so much money for it (well, my fiance had!) that I kept using it, right until my mom asked me – “have you stopped washing your face or what?!” That was it. I’ve regretfully kept this expensive tube in a drawer and I’m wondering what on earth I can use it for! Would I repurchase? Yeah right. Not even if I was paid money to use it.

I bought the makeup specifically for my engagement function in Chennai as I was afraid heavy makeup would make my skin look orange and cakey or make me sweat.

The Body Shop All-In-One Face Base (Shade 05) (Rs. 895) – It promises a “light velvety matte base” if used dry and a heavier matte coverage if the sponge applicator (included) is wet. Did it live up to its promise? Pretty much.It gave me just the coverage I wanted – sheer and light, almost as if I wasn’t wearing any make up. I got a lot of compliments on my natural ‘glow’ that day and all the credit goes to this base! But oil control and staying power aren’t its strong points. The function was about five hours long but two hours after I first put on the base, I had to go touch it up which was a bit inconvenient. And don’t even ask how it is on wet – unless you want a slightly orange-y, streaky look, I suggest you use this product dry. I also recommend using the sponge only if you want a heavier coverage. I didn’t so I used a foundation brush and loved the end result! Would I repurchase? Yup. I liked the look it gave me even if didn’t last as long as I’d have liked it to.

The Body Shop Cheek Colour (03 – Healthier Pink) (Rs. 495) – This was also bought for the engagement make up as it promised a “sheer, natural looking colour”.Did it live up to its promise? Hell yeah! This blush gave my cheeks the perfect tinge of ‘natural colour’ and stayed on beautifully for the entire duration of the function (although I touched it up when I touched up the base). I love the way I looked and so did the zillions of people who complimented the ‘blushing bride to be’.But I would recommend this only to women who prefer a lighter blush. It doesn’t provide a lot of coverage.Would I repurchase? Definitely!!! (Note to self: Must think of suitable occasion for a gift from the fiance!)

  1. wow ki nice haul!! lucky girl!! cheek color and face base look interesting..which one’s the smiley for envy…:D

    1. Maybe one of the angry ones?! ๐Ÿ˜›

Yeah, I did pick up a lot of things… still have one or two left to review but I’m still to use them! But that’s only because I didn’t pay for all of it! TBS can be costly :-(( Try the cheek colour though, it’s awesome!

      Thanks for commenting! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Congratulations on the engagement..!!!
Nice Haul.. we girls are so expensive on our bf’s and fiancees pockets.. i so pity them..
Your skin sounds so like mine.. the only difference is that i dont have dry skin per se but dead kinda skin on my cheeks which is there because mild exfoliation is of no good on that area and stronger exfoliation is very harsh on my sensitive skin.

Im liking the cheek color.. i dont like blushes that are very pigmented.. i like the ones which just provide you with a healthy glow..

    1. Thank you :)) you should definitely check the cheek colour out – very natural and very daytime ๐Ÿ˜€

So what do you do to exfoliate your skin? :O I have dry patches so gentle exfoliation seems best to me!

      1. I generally scrub my skin with sugar.. that helps alot.. since its without any chemicals and all.. so no chances of my skin breaking out..

        1. I’ve thought about trying sugar and olive oil for the longest time! Michelle Phan did a scrun on youtube where she mixed olive oil, honey and sugar and used that. ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you add anything like that to the sugar or use it plain? :idk:

          1. Ya i add some lemon drops to it since my skin is oily.. or if i am being lazy then i just wet my palms and scrub with plain sugar granules..

  3. I loved the cheek color , I had the one in “Golden Pink” buh unfortunately it broke ๐Ÿ™
But I am so happy with the Colorbar Blushes that I have no desire to check out more ๐Ÿ˜›
btw congrats on your engagement !

  4. hey Ki, what a haul!!!! I too wanna show the envy smiley ๐Ÿ˜€

really liking the cheek color but yes I think colorbar has some really good cheaper options…you shud definately try

  5. Hiee Ki!! Wonderful review…
I have oily skin too…waiting for a cure for that ๐Ÿ™‚ Mom says she can make papadams using my skin….
anyhoo….I would love to try the products….

    1. Ha ha ha ha ha ๐Ÿ˜€ are you south indian? This is the sort of quip my paati (nani) would make! ๐Ÿ˜›

Thanks for the compliment :)) let me know how you like the products if you try them!

    2. Hi Pavitra,

      Welcome to M&B . ๐Ÿ™‚

lol!! seriously no one can beat moms with their descriptions. Glad to know all moms are the same. ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. Dear Ki,

Wonderful haul….err…fling ๐Ÿ™‚ thanks to ur fiance ๐Ÿ˜‰ I heard enough of that word “HAUL”…i cant take it anymore…LOL…count me in…i am a huge fan of body shop lippies….try body shop eye lash curler…such a beauty for that price….its definitely worth every penny ๐Ÿ™‚ its around 275 INR…which equals to a lip balm from body shop…

Just an information, if u dont mind me telling…Seaweed in the Body shop seaweed range of products come from Ireland ๐Ÿ™‚ felt like sharing…no other intentions…

seaweed mattifying moisturizing lotion sounds interesting, but the price is really pain in the a***

cant imagine the foundation shades available here ….i surely end up lukin’ like another chandramukhi….but the blush luks pretty, just like u….:)

    1. Oh thank you so much for the info!!! I’ve been planning to pick up an eye lash curlet for ages! And I know body shop is safe and reliab;e when it comes to this ๐Ÿ˜€

Why should I mind you giving me info?! :O I know you’re the in house TBS expert ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€ Plus I read the bottles so I know it’s community trade from Ireland… so cool!

Try the face cleanser rather than moisturiser though, I didn’t like the moisturiser! Still get scoldings from my fiance about wasting 800 bucks!!! And try the blush too – super pretty! Thanks for complimenting me! ๐Ÿ™‚ :*

  7. Hi Ki,

That was a lovely haul and so sweet of your fiance to get you stuff from TBS. I’ll definitely try the blush soon. In fact, I am quite fed up of the “No Stock” or “Old Stock” answers from colorbar counters here ๐Ÿ™
    So..Body Shop it is…

Divija : Chandramukhi :beauty: ?? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

    1. Hey :))

glad you’re going to try the blush – you won’t be disappointed ๐Ÿ˜€

and yup, he’s a total sweetheart for getting me truckloads! I still have stuff left to review ๐Ÿ˜› ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. Wht a cool haul!

The blush looks nice and I too was gonna get it during the sale – but got waylaid by NYX instead – they cost the same and I feel are way better. I actually don’t understand why TBS stuff is so expensive actually..

    1. I haven’t tried NYX so can’t comment :/ but was very happy with the TBS one :))

I have no idea why it’s ecpensive… but I know it’s safe. Their products have never once broken me out so I don’t hesitate to try. ๐Ÿ™‚
