The Body Shop Spa of the World Thai Lemongrass Massage Oil Review

Hello gorgeous ladies,

Today’s review is on Body Shop Spa of the World Thai Lemongrass Massage Oil. I absolutely loved the “French Lavender” and “Tahitian Orchid” versions that I have reviewed for you earlier. This one is from the “Revitalizing” range and has exotic lemongrass as the predominant fragrance. Let’s see how this one worked.

Price:
INR 1695 for 170ml

Packaging:  The packaging is good – it’s a tubby dark tinted plastic bottle with a wide base. This ensures that the bottle stands well – not likely to topple over and spill the oil. The dark tint of the bottle hopefully ensures that the product remains stable. Also, the plastic bottle is safe from breaking. There is no cardboard box or anything with it – just the bottle. It’s got a screw on cap. Once open, it reveals a plastic stopper with a small hole, which gives sufficient control on the liquid being dispensed.  I wish it came with a pump – but that seems to be my general grouse with pretty much all oil products.

My Experience with The Body Shop Spa of the World Thai Lemongrass Massage Oil:

As I had mentioned while reviewing the French Lavender Massage oil, my body skin is extremely dry. I specify “body skin” because for some reason, my face skin is oily/combo! Go figure!

Coming back to the review, the Thai Lemon Grass oil, like the lavender version, is fairly lightweight and absorbs easily into the skin. This one is part of the “revitalizing” range from the “Spa of the World” collection. It’s a collection of plant oils and not just lemongrass oil, through the fragrance is predominantly lemongrass with a mix of herbs. The fragrance itself is fairly strong, but not overpowering, at least not for me. I think lemongrass is a fragrance that everyone may not be used to, especially the west world. So, it may not be up to everyone’s liking.

I personally love all things Thai, especially lemongrass! So, I just love this fragrance, but I would suggest you to definitely try this in store before picking it up. Thai fragrances can be pretty strong. I remember my first Trip to Thailand. I was on a task force assignment to set up Customer Service Systems in Bangkok and Phuket. I had been advised by my boss to take plenty of snacks (read “Haldiram” packets) from home as the Thai food smells may get to me and the food may not be palatable, which was obviously based on his own experience. However, I love love love Thai food! Give me Som Tam and Tom Yum daily – for breakfast, lunch and dinner – and I’d be a happy lark! So, basically unlike Lavender, which has a more universal appeal, lemongrass, is definitely not everyone’s cup of tea!

Fragrance apart, the oil itself is as nourishing as the Lavender one. It is definitely energizing and a good pick me up! It’s something you would want to use in the morning, rather than before bedtime. It moisturizes the skin and makes it feel soft and supple. It does not leave any residue on top, neither does it stain the clothes.

One thing I would want to point out is that though these oils are termed as massage oils, keep these things in mind:

1. They aren’t very thick, so you don’t really need to spend a lot of time “massaging’ it in!
2. These massage oils work better as post-shower moisturizers rather than pre-shower massage oils (the way people traditionally use oils). These aren’t strong enough to survive a bath.  Your skin won’t feel their effect if applied before shower.

The price is substantial. However, a little goes a long way if used as a moisturizer. Again, if the fragrance works for you, you can take this with you even if you get a massage done outside. If used as a massage oil, you would use more quantity of course. Either way, you will not be left with greasy sticky hands or body!

To sum this up for you:

Pros of The Body Shop Spa of the World Thai Lemongrass Massage Oil:

  • Energizing lemongrass fragrance, yes, it is subjective.
  • Energizes the mind and body.
  • You get the feeling of pampering your skin.
  • Leaves body feeling soft, supple, nourished.
  • Lightweight, gets absorbed fairly quickly.
  • Can be used all year round.
  • Does not stain clothes.
  • Stays liquid, through the year.

Cons of The Body Shop Spa of the World Thai Lemongrass Massage Oil:

  • Nothing really.

IMBB Rating:
A definite 5/5 product.

The product is definitely good, as was the French lavender version. However, the fragrance may not have as universal an appeal as that of lavender. This however, would smell more exotic and would be more suited as part of the morning ritual when you want to awaken your body from slumber or post a workout. I am thoroughly enjoying the feeling of pampering – thanks to these lovely oils!

  1. Though I dont enjoy products with the smell of lemongrass in them but TBS has been doing a fantastic job with the Spa of the world range. Will give one of these a try for sure.
