The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA Review

Skin type: Normal to oily-acne prone and sensitive

Greetings everyone,

Currently, The Ordinary skin care brand in trending because they provide excellent products at unbeatable price ranges. So, I thought of trying a few of their products and that’s how I got this serum. Today’s review is about The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA. Let’s see how it fared.

The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA Review

Price: 12.90 USD for 30 ml
Product Description:
Alpha Arbutin reduces the looks of spots and hyper-pigmentation. It’s used at a high 2% concentration versus a standard concentration of 1% and supported with a next-generation form of Hyaluronic Acid for enhanced delivery. Alpha Arbutin is much stronger in effect than Arbutin or Beta Arbutin.

Note: Alpha Arbutin is extremely sensitive to degradation in the presence of water if the pH of the formulation is not ideal. The pH of this formula is approximately 4.9 which is shown to be the most suitable pH to minimize degradation of Alpha Arbutin.

Ingredients:
Aqua (Water), Alpha-Arbutin, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Propanediol, PPG-26-Buteth-26; PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Lactic Acid, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Ethoxydiglycol, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.
Direction to Use:
Apply a few drops to face in the AM and PM as part of your skincare regimen. Use sun protection in the AM.

My Experience with The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA:

Packaging:
The packaging is done in the simplest way. It is a no-fuss yet functional packaging at the same time. The serum comes in a frosted glass vial. Each and every detail about the product is written over the glass vial. The frosted glass vial has an outer cardboard packaging that holds all the information. Overall, if you want your skin care products to be packaged simply, then you are going to love it.

Texture and Fragrance:
The consistency of the serum is watery with a sticky and smooth texture. The serum is transparent and has no fragrance to it. This is a good thing for sensitive nose, ladies. After applying, it feels sticky and tacky over the skin. However, within a minute of absorption, the skin feels soft and smooth.

Usage/Results:
When thinking of treating uneven skin tone or dark spots, only Alpha Arbutin or Kojic Acid come to my mind. Both the ingredients are highly effective in making the skin even-toned. I have normal to oily skin that needs proper attention to prevent breakouts. However, nothing can control my hormonal breakouts and they often leave scars and spots over the chin area.

Coming to the quantity needed for the application, only 4-5 drops of the serum are sufficient for my face and neck area. With this amount of usage, a bottle can sustain for a period of two months easily. I have been using the serum for the last 2 months and the bottle is still left with a few doses.

I use Alpha Arbutin 2 % + HA serum in conjunction with Niacinamide 10 % Solution and Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%. Usually, according to the directions, I apply the Alpha Arbutin solution in AM and PM, both. However, if I have to stay in the direct sun for a long time, then I tend to skip it. I do not need the moisturizer as I follow up with Niacinamide 10 % formula and Azelaic acid suspension 10 %.

Further coming to the results of using the ordinary alpha Arbutin 2 % + HA, it is quite effective. Though, it is not able to treat the scars and spots in the period of two months completely, but has definitely blurred them to an extent and still doing so. I am pretty sure that within a month more, it will clear them out completely. Definitely, it takes time to show results, but which skin care product does not?

I bought this for my mom also for her hyper-pigmented skin. She has normal-matured skin with hyperpigmentation issue. She is using it for a period of two months as well and has noticed a very slight difference in her pigmented skin. I think, for hyper pigmented skin, one will need a more drastic product. But, considering the price, I am happy and satisfied with the results on my skin.

The ordinary alpha Arbutin 2 % + HA brightens up the skin and makes it plump and softer, as well. My skin is now much happier and glowing. Overall, it does whatever it claims to do to your skin.
