TheBalm Cindy-Lou Manizer Review

I have been in the mood for pink makeup lately – pink lipstick, pink lip gloss, pink blush, even pink highlighter, which is what led me to try TheBalm’sCindy-Lou Manizer. It’s a pretty, peachy pink shimmery powder.

There are three “Lou Manizers” (luminizers, in case you didn’t get it) in TheBalm’s lineup. There’s Mary-Lou Manizer, a golden shade which seems to be the most popular of the three, and which I also own; Betty-Lou Manizer, a bronzey color; andCindy-Lou Manizer, a peachy pink, which is what I’m reviewing now.

I think Cindy-Lou was intended for those with cool, light skin tones, judging from the women illustrated on the packaging and shown on TheBalm’s website. I have a warm, medium skin tone, around NC 35 at MAC, and mostly like my makeup subtle and natural but not in this case. I just wanted pink, glowy shimmer.

Cindy-Lou Manizer is just that – pink, glowy, shimmery. In the pan, it doesn’t look very pinkish because most of its gold undertones can be seen.  It might even be described as rose gold, looking at it in the pan. On the skin is where the peachy pink description is more accurate.  Swatched on my skin, Cindy-Lou is a light peachy pink with a gold undertone, and fine multicolored shimmer that gives it beautiful dimension.

I think it’s the shimmer that makes it pretty. This powder is chock-full of shimmer so it catches a lot of light, giving a slightly cool, pink-hued glow to the skin. Some powders or highlighters that have a cool tone can look ashy on my warm complexion, but this one does not.  I suspect because of the peach and gold in it.

TheBalm says that this product can be used as a highlighter, eyeshadow, and blush. I just like to use it for highlighting, since personally I find that it has too much fallout as an eyeshadow, and it’s too shimmery as a blush. I like wearing it with blushes in the same color family.

The texture of this I find unusually soft for a powder. A light touch on the pan with a small brush makes an obvious indentation on the surface of the powder, no matter how gentle I try to be. I guess I would describe the texture of this powder as “delicate.” It is so soft and loosely packed. A light tap on the pan gives me enough for all the areas I want to highlight.

Since it’s very shimmery, it may emphasize pores or unevenness on the skin. The powder itself feels smooth and applies evenly on the skin though. It lasts for about 6 hours on my skin, which is pretty good. For the swatches I’ve included an extra photo, it’s a bit blurry but shows the shimmers in this product.

Cindy-Lou Manizer is in the kitschy packaging TheBalm products are known for. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it either – I think I may have outgrown my penchant for cutesy packaging. I do like the big mirror inside the compact though, it’s very convenient. This also contains a lot of product—8.5 grams, to be exact. For comparison, MAC’s powder blushes contain 6 grams. Due to the pigmentation and texture of this powder, that 8.5 g will go a long, long way!

    1. I own this and Mary-lou and have swatched Betty Lou, if you’ll be using them for highlighting:

Cindy: for peachy pink highlight or cool, light skin tones
Betty: a light, golden bronze, can be a shimmery bronzer also; probably more suited for tan/dark skin as highlight
Mary: gold; IMO the most universal of the 3; good for medium to dark skin, light skin can use it sparingly

      Hope that helps, Neha! 🙂
