TheBalm Instain Blush – Lace

Product Purchased by IMBB

All of TheBalm’s Instain Blushes are named after fabric prints/patterns—and I think Lace is a fitting name for this color. While lace can be gossamer and delicate,it can also be tacky and kitschy, and I like that the TheBalm took the latter direction with this.Lace is a super bright pink blush!

From TheBalm’s website:

TheBalm’s long-wearing, STAINING powder blush is a fashion must have! With six shades, perfect for all seasons and skin tones, it will give your cheeks color that won’t quit.

Price:

22 USD for 5.5 g

TheBalm has other blushes in their line, but the Instain powder blush in particular is supposed to be staining and long-wearing. Most of the six Instain blush shades have already been reviewed on IMBB. I myself have written about Houndstooth, a more subtle, for-everyday shade.

TheBalm Instain Blushes are in cardboard packaging that’s designed to look like miniature, vintage fashion magazines. Very cute! It has a magnetic closure and there’s also a mirror inside. For the most part, I find the packaging sturdy, though it’s not the easiest to clean up when dirt or pigments get smudged on it.

Lace is described on TheBalm’s website as ‘bright pink’. Looking at the pan, I’d give the same description off the top of my head, but to be a bit more specific, to my eyes Lace is a cool-toned, bright, vividpink. It has a matte finish. I think this shade would suit medium skin tones, and dark skin tones especially.I have a medium, warm skin tone (NC 35), and as with any cool-toned pink blush, I was wary of it looking unnatural on my complexion, butapplied sparingly, Lace gives me a healthy pink flush. It doesn’t appear as cool on my cheeks as it does in the pan, though it still retains most of its cool tone. It doesn’t oxidize and turn orangey/peachy on me after a few hours. I think it looks pretty worn with a pink-red lippie.

This is a very pigmented blush that will give you clown cheeks if it’s sloppily applied. It needs careful application, ideally with a duo-fiber brush. If you like highly pigmented blushes, this is definitely one of them.

Lace applies smoothly on the skin. Because of its intense color, it needs to be blended well, but it doesn’t go on patchy or streaky—it’s actually relatively easy to blend. It’s not chalky and barely kicks up powder when I dip my brush in the pan. It’s not too dry either. As a whole I find the texture quite decent; this blush isn’t difficult to work with.

This blush wears for several hours on me. It doesn’t stain my skin the way a regular liquid cheek stain does, but it does have impressive lasting power. I’ve worn this on a humid day and still found it to be long wearing. Also, for reference, I have dry skin.

Pros of TheBalm Instain Blush – Lace

• Vibrant, pretty color.
• I like the matte, but not flat finish.
• Highly pigmented.
• Applies smoothly.
• Wears for several hours on my skin.
• No scent.
• Affordable price.
• Adorable packaging.
• The case isn’t easily damaged despite being made of cardboard.

Cons of TheBalm Instain Blush – Lace

• Highly pigmentation in blushes is both a pro and con for me. I can’t use this when I’m in a rush because careful application and blending is needed.

Would I repurchase TheBalm Instain Blush – Lace? Yes, probably.

IMBB Rating: 4.5/5

Overall: TheBalm Instain Blush in Lace is a good option for a matte, bright, cool pink blush that’s pigmented, has decent texture, is long-wearing, affordable, and has cute packaging to boot. Worth checking out.
