theBalm Meet Matte Hughes Committed Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick Review

Whenever I wear dark makeup, I have a hard time deciding as to what to wear on my lips – too light looks very unflattering on me and too dark makes me look like a clown.  Because of this dilemma, I have spent quite a few pretty pennies to get the right shade for me.  I bought this particular shade from theBalm for this very purpose; however, it fell into the first category – way too light.  It showed me in an unflattering light rather than what I desired, which left me despondent, but still, I found a way to wear and play around to get the right shade for me. Someone had mentioned that these lip colors are a perfect dupe for the Lime Crime lip colors, but I was a little skeptical, so I did a little research on the net and found that these lip colors are in fact known for their matte, long-lasting finish, and since they are not that expensive, I decided to buy them in three different shades.  Read my experience with the shade “Committed.”

My Take on theBalm Meet Matte Hughes Committed Long-Lasting Liquid Lipstick:

First of all, the name of these lip colors is bit confusing and weird and makes no sense, but it doesn’t matter to me as long as the product is good. They come in 18 different shades and most of them have been made for fair skin beauties which is a little unfair.

Packaging:  A skinny long tube, like a test tube with a solid black, twist cap which has a long doe-foot applicator attached to it. I like the packaging because it’s easy to store, carry and recognize among the pile of other lip colors.

Texture:  It is very creamy and smooth to apply, reminds me of NYX matte lip color. It does not tug on dry lips; however, a lip balm is recommended underneath.

Color:  A pale pink which is perfect for nude look on fair skin beauties, but not so much on my skin tone or darker; however, it can be used as a base to get an even-toned neutral background and then apply some brighter color on top or vise versa – I wear a dark lip liner underneath and then apply this product.

Pigmentation:  Awesome pigmentation and this is a claim that I make because I have lip pigmentation and I try really hard to hide my uneven lip tone and get a flawless finish.

Shimmer and Shine:  It has no shimmer or shine whatsoever. On first swatch, it might appear a little wet or shiny; however, in a couple of minutes, it dries out into a smooth, velvet matte finish.

Fragrance:  The product has a very subtle floral fragrance which I like since it doesn’t bother me too much and fades away eventually.

Staying Power:  One needs a very good makeup remover to remove this lipstick or it won’t budge at all. It might fade a little if one consumes oily food, but otherwise, it does not budge at all. In fact, it is little too stubborn to remove.

I am happy with the quality of product, but not with the shade and would buy this product in some other shade because it gives a beautiful matte finish and is not drying like most other matte lip colors.
