10 Things No Woman Should Ever be Ashamed of in Life

Hi ladies,
It is almost the end of 2015. We live in an everchanging world, but there are still so many stereotypes attached with the woman of today. A woman should dress in a certain way, should behave in a certain way, so on and so forth; so who sets these standards?
In today’s post, let’s talk about what are the things that we should never apologise and be ashamed about?

Things in life a woman should never be ashamed about-first

1. The way you look

I always thought that people told you that you’re beautiful–that this was a title that was bestowed upon you…I think that it’s time to take this power into our own hands and to say, “You know what? I’m beautiful. I just am. And that’s my light. I’m just a beautiful woman.”
– Margaret Cho

No matter how fat or how thin we are, we can very easily point out at least 3-5 wrongs about our look. We girls are the biggest critic of ourselves. If you are trying to be a perfect version of someone else’s fantasies, then please don’t! You are the perfect version of yourself; you are perfect and don’t let anyone tell you differently.

2. Your past

Men who think that a woman’s past love affairs lessen her love for them are usually stupid and weak.
– Marilyn Monroe

Everyone has a past. Our past shapes who we are today. You should never apologise for what you did in your past. You may have had handful of relationships or you may have never been in a relationship; the choice is yours. You do not have to justify your actions to anybody.

3. Your relationship status

Hope for love, pray for love, wish for love, dream for love…but don’t put your life on hold waiting for love.
– Mandy Hale

You may be pushing 30 and still unmarried or you may have just completed your college and getting married. Well good for you if this is what you want. Don’t be bothered by societal pressure and especially those neighbourhood aunties who ask you “beta ab toh tera number hai.”
(Personal experience: my only friend is getting married in my neighbourhood and everyone is asking me nowadays when I am getting married. And I am just 23!) They don’t know I am going in elope in Jab we met’s style 😛

4. Showing emotions openly

I have come to realize making yourself happy is most important. Never be ashamed of how you feel. You have the right to feel any emotion you want, and do what makes you happy. That’s my life motto.
– Demi Lovato

Expressing what you are going through via crying is really quite natural and healthy. You should not apologise for crying ever! Something hurt and bothered you and you can’t take it anymore. So what if you cried. It is ok! It means you are strong enough to own up your feelings and act on them.

5. Letting go of toxic relationships

Some women choose to follow men, and some women choose to follow their dreams. If you’re wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it doesn’t love you anymore.
– Lady Gaga

If you think a relationship is just dragging you down and it is not doing anything to make you better, then you probably are in an unhealthy relationship. The best thing to do is walk away as soon as you can. There is no point of being in a relation where you are not valued, you are not respected and you are constantly in the state of unhappiness.

6. Wearing lot of makeup or going natural

The best thing is to look natural, but it takes makeup to look natural
– Calvin Klein

You may be the girl who likes to wear a lot of makeup or you may be the girl who doesn’t like to wear any! Whatever or whoever you are, never forget it is your life and your face. You can do whatever you want to do with it.

7. Wearing what you like

I love fashion and there is no easier way to express yourself than through the clothes you wear.
– Victoria Justice

If your partner is telling you that you can’t wear a certain outfit to a party because he thinks it is revealing then punch him in the face right away. 😛 We know he cares for you but you care for yourself too, more than anyone else. You do know which outfit is right for each occasion and you do not need a person telling what to wear and what not. If you feel comfortable in a salwar-kameez or a micro-mini, then it is totally your call and not anyone else’s.

8. Your career choices

A busy, vibrant, goal-oriented woman is so much more attractive than a woman who waits around for a man to validate her existence.
– Mandy Hale

Wanting to get married early, wanting to go to study abroad or wanting a time-consuming high-profile job; this is your choice. You may never want to get married and might want a fruitful career; you need to work for it and not pay heed to what the world has to say about it.

9. Not knowing how to cook

Who says I can’t cook? You have never obviously tasted my cereal?
– Unknown

Although it is nice for a girl to be independent in every manner even in whipping up a perfect meal for herself, but you won’t be any less of a woman if your chapattis are not perfect round. Give those people a really hard bashing who say that you need to be an expert chef in order to be a perfect wife.

10. Wanting/not wanting to be intimate!

I would rather have a cup of tea than sex.
– Boy George

You don’t owe any explanation to anybody if you don’t want to get physically involved with someone. This is totally up to you. And if you are the girl who is open with her desires and not afraid to ask for it, then there is nothing wrong with it too.

  1. First of all wish you all the luck with your eloping scene. *main to bhaag rahi hu* echoing in my ears now. I hate shaadi kab kr rhi ho type questions, I hate them and ppl who ask this. :/ This is one of your best lists, loved it Vandana. 🙂

  2. just wow!!! every woman relates to these terms in life…bDw shikha i too hate the Shadi kab karogi types of question :/ m just 24 🙁 and vandana your posts are like mirrors for life…i love them to the core 🙂

  3. Hello Vandana,

Really nice article, all points are relevant in each ones life in one way or the other. Thanks for reminding US that WE WOMAN ARE ALSO DECISION MAKERS IN ONE WAY OR THE OTHER, inspite of all the commitments and responsibility WE ALSO HAVE RIGHTS TO PLEASE OUR SELVES.????

  4. Lovely article! I’d just like to add one thing to it – related to letting go of toxic relationship. This may not necessarily be about A boy-girl relationship. If you have a girlfriend who sucks the energy out of you or is overly critical or negative all the time… Maybe it’s time to distan yourself and walk away. If someone brings you down – let go!

And one last thing – your choice to drink or not. Your life, your choice. You shouldn’t have to feel bad if you do like a drink once in a while. Equally, no need to give in to peer pressure if drinking is just not your thing! Cheers!

    1. KK, you are absolutely right – whether it’s a boyfriend or your same gender friend, if it’s a toxic relationship, it’s better to get rid of it. There was this so-called friend who would sit all day at my home and depressed me with her negativity. Once I got rid of her, it feels so good!!
