How to Thread Your Eyebrows at Home – Step by Step Threading Tutorial

Wish you all a very Happy New Year and I also hope you are enjoying this extremely cold winter season! I’m back after a long time with a new article and in this post, I am sharing a step-by-step tutorial on how to thread your eyebrows at home step by step threading tutorial. If you are someone who is never content with the way your eyebrows look after threading them at salons and parlours, then count me also in. A lot of times, I am completely disappointed with how my brows look after getting them threaded – sometimes they look thin, sometimes too boxy. If you want the eyebrows of your dreams, why don’t you try it yourself, at home! There are so many ways to groom and shape eyebrows – you can use eyebrow razor, it’s quite easy to use, safe and always a quick way to tame unruly brow hair. You can also use tweezers to pluck out stray hair, but tweezers only help you to maintain the shape of your brows, they would not re-shape them. Tweezers cannot give brows a proper makeover. The best way to groom and shape your brows is by threading them – you just need a bit of practice and in a short time, you would get the brows of your dream. So, let me show you how to thread your eyebrows at home, in a step by step threading tutorial.

You will require:

  • Normal cotton thread roll. You can also buy professional eyebrow thread from stores or online. If you don’t have access to either, you can use normal sewing thread. I used a normal sewing thread in this tutorial.
  • Tweezers. I used a flat front tweezers and also a pointed tweezers.
  • Scissor for cutting the length and to trim the hair.
  • Scotch tape.
  • Pure aloe vera gel.
  • Loose powder/talcum powder.

Step by Step Eyebrow Threading Tutorial:

Step 1: First you have to mattify your skin using talcum powder or any other face powder, especially if you have oily skin because applying powder helps to get a good grip on the hair sans any slipperiness caused by oil.
Step 2: Take the thread and cut it in a good length. Now, tie the two ends to make a loop and make sure that the length is comfortable for your fingers to manoeuvre through (I have depicted in the pic below on how to hold the thread between your fingers). Also, make sure the thread is tightly knotted together, trim off the extra thread from the ends so you have a clean loop of thread.

Step 3: Now, hold the loop with four fingers like a square and then twist the loop five to six times. Create the twisted section in the middle of the loop and check the motion by moving your fingers. First open the one hand and then close the other hand. The twisted sections should move up and down by increasing and deceasing the distance between the both triangle sides. You can also use the middle finger to control the move.

Step 4: Coming to threading, first you have to brush your eyebrows and also you can use a brow pencil to draw the desired shape to make the threading task easy.
Step 5: Thread away the hair from your forehead by placing the twisted section over the hair and by moving the thread, remove them slowly. As this area doesn’t need any shape, you can go over the forehead area randomly, in no particular motion, but always do it from the opposite direction of your hair growth.

Step 6: Once you are done with removing hair from your forehead, place the twisted center of thread over the upper section of the eyebrow, directly over the hair you want to remove. You have to move your fingers and the thread from the opposite direction of your hair growth. Don’t tug or press too much, just increase the gap between the fingers and move the twisted section over the hair and do the same again and again from the proper position.

Step 7: This is basically an optional step as you can do it before the previous step as well. At this point, you will need tweezers and remove the joint of your two brows with it by simply pull the hair. Basically for me, it’s quite difficult to thread in such a small area, so it’s quite easy to pull them off. Also, if you have single stray hair, you can pluck them off using tweezers.

Step 8: Coming to the lower section, you will require a tape to hold the skin downwards and it also helps to get a smooth threading without any tugging or drag on the skin. Just place the tape from under your brow to under eye area.

Step 9: Now, follow the same technique as the upper section. Place the twisted section over the hair and simple by moving the thread upwards and downwards, pull out brow hair. I would always suggest to start threading from the ends. Don’t over-thread end sections, it will shorten your brow length. At the ends of the brows, you will have to spend some time and thread slowly, removing hair one by one. If you are doing it for the first time; make sure you draw the shape first.

Step 10: I always require tweezers to pull out small hair and tweezers always help to achieve perfect eyebrow line (check the pictures).

Step 11: Now, trim eyebrow hair at the thick end of the brows. First comb your brow hair in an upward direction and then use a small pair of scissors to trim them sharply to your liking. Without scissors, you would not be able to get a sharp finish, especially on the upper section. So trim your hair nicely and always maintain the thickness.

Step 12: Finally apply some aloe vera gel and massage it over skin for a few minutes to soothe the area.
