Timeless Skin Care 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum Review

Timeless Skin Care 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum Review

Hi Beauties,

I read many people asking on IMBB regarding anti-aging skin care.  While my answer to this would always be first and foremost the regular use of a good sunscreen, there has been proven scientific benefits regarding use of topical vitamin C on skin. While researching on vitamin C, I found out the following facts from internet websites:

Timeless Skin Care 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum

  • Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is one of the few topical agents whose effectiveness against wrinkles and fine lines is backed by reliable research.
  • Acts as an antioxidant – UV rays of the sun may penetrate through the sunscreen, and form free radicals. Vitamin C serums are rich in anti-oxidants that neutralise these free radicals, repair and renew the cells and give the skin a healthier look.
  • Helps produce collagen – Collagen is a protein which binds the cells of our body. Vitamin C serum stimulates the synthesis of collagen in the skin which will give you a tighter, firmer and less sagged feel.
  • Restores and regenerates – Vitamin C attacks the free radicals in your body. If you have any acne scars, sun spots, brown pigmentation spots, you’ll find them fading with regular application.

Unfortunately, vitamin C is relatively unstable. When exposed to air, vitamin C solution undergoes oxidation and becomes not only ineffective but also potentially harmful (oxidized vitamin C may increase the formation of free radicals).  Amongst various other methods, vitamin C can be stabilized and potentiated by the addition of Vitamin E and Ferulic acid.
Vitamin E is a fat soluble antioxidant. Vitamin E enhances the antioxidant effects of Vitamin C when they are co-applied to the skin. Therefore, even if some of the vitamin C in a product is degraded, the remainder works better in the presence of vitamin E.
Ferulic acid is a naturally occurring phenolic compound found primarily in plant cell walls. It is a potent antioxidant and may improve the stability of Vitamin C in water solution. Also, the addition of ferulic acid to the combination of vitamins C and E appears to increase protection from UV-induced skin damage. So, the vitamin C which lasts just 1-2 weeks, will last around 2-3 months in the presence of these stabilisers.

IMBB, as well as many other posts on internet have various DIY methods for preparation of vitamin C serum. But as I was researching, I came across a strange article which states that DIY vitamin C serums may not be as effective as the ones sold in the market. It states that Vitamin C may need a carrier to penetrate the epidermis (upper layer of skin). What this carrier is, I have no clues, but it seems certain market sold products contain these carrier molecules, whereas the ones we make at home do not have it. So, are we wasting our time and money in making DIY vitamin C serum? I do not know.

Anyway, here started my search for a good Vitamin C serum containing Vitamin E and Ferulic acid. And the results shocked me!!!! Such products do exist, have good reviews, are available easily online, but are exorbitantly pricey. In fact, I saw such serums being sold at 150 – 200 USD for 30-50 ml of product. Even these products have a shelf life of around 2-3 months, and if they turn yellow (i.e vitamin C has oxidised/spoilt), you have to throw out the entire remaining product. What a waste!!!!

Timeless Skin Care 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum

In my search, I have found a good vitamin C serum, which has vitamin E and Ferulic acid in it, has Hyaluronic acid, has 20% vitamin C, comes in a blue cobalt color bottle (transparent bottles increase degradation/oxidation of vitamin C), and is extremely cost effective for 30 ml of product. I decided to buy it thinking that even if it oxidised, I would be throwing out less money. I have been using it since 3.5 months, and it has not changed its color yet.

Price:

It cost 25 USD (for me, including shipping, i.e. around Rs. 2100/-) for 30 ml (1oz.) of product.

Product Description:

Vitamin C – antioxidant that evens skin tone and helps build collagen. We use a 20% concentration of L-ascorbic acid for maximum benefit. Vitamin E + Ferulic Acid – used to extend the life and effectiveness of vitamin C. Normal C serums will expire in a month or less. Our product is guaranteed fresh and effective for 3 months. Hyaluronic Acid – one of the most powerful hydrating and moisturizing ingredients on the market today. Holds up to 1000 times its weight in water! Also:
• non-greasy (if applied correctly.)
• dries fast and clear.
• paraben free.
• more actives, less chemicals.

Directions Of Use:

Wash area to be applied as you normally would. Apply several drops of serum onto fingers and massage into desired area. Warning: product will cause exfoliation and is not recommended for those with oily skin since it contains vitamin E. Apply 1-2 times daily, depending on your skins sensitivity. If going out, wear a sunscreen.

My Experience with Timeless Skin Care 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum:

The product comes in a cobalt blue color glass bottle. It is totally sealed and airtight with a rubber cap and a lid. It has a dropper, which comes along with it. I had already made certain preparations for storing this serum. I was determined, you see, that none of my product goes waste. So, I had taken two of my son’s amber color medicine bottles, washed and dried it and closed it with a dropper. As soon as I received the product, I took it to a partially dark room, and divided the contents between the three bottles (10 ml in each) and closed it tight with the dropper. I then put all of them in the fridge.

I have been using it since 3 and half months (though its shelf life is 3 months) and it has not turned yellow yet. I still have a very little amount left now (for another 15-20 days maybe). I have managed to use up the entire content without it turning yellow. Keeping in the fridge has led the product to become a bit thicker than before, but that’s not an issue with me. I usually use it once a day, around 5-6 drops, and spread it on my clean face and neck area sparing the eyes (Vitamin C causes micro exfoliation, you see). I usually use it at night time, so I do not follow it with a sunscreen, though I do follow it with a moisturiser.

This serum has given very good results for me. I have normal to dry skin. It spreads very easily on my skin, and absorbs fast. It does not leave any greasy/oily effect on my face. The first day or two, it stung a little bit, but then my skin got adapted to it. It has never dried out my skin, caused any breakouts or rashes or any other skin reactions or allergies. Using it since more than three months, I have already noticed a difference on my skin. My face is bright and radiant when I wake up in the morning, and the radiance lasts throughout the day. Though I do take proper care of my skin (the CTM regime), still I find a glow on my skin which was not there before. It has definitely reduced a few fine lines which were forming on my forehead; whether it will continue to stop formation of new lines and wrinkles, only time will tell.  As of now, I am extremely happy with this low budget serum. I also do not have to make a fresh batch every week, which, I tell you, was extremely cumbersome sometimes. Also, a doubt used to niggle on my mind since I read that article about relative inefficacy of home-made vitamin C serum.

The serum has not degraded at all (might be due to my procedure of storing it), but I must say that I am completely satisfied with it.

Would I Repurchase Timeless Skin Care 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum?

Of course.

Will I Recommend Timeless Skin Care 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum?

Yes, I am not discouraging anyone who are getting good results with DIY homemade Vitamin C serums. But for people, who want to use a proper company made branded serum, or not confident enough in making the serums, or just cannot take the effort of doing so, may try this out. It is very cheap compared to other brands available in the market. It has shown remarkable results on my face. I am now finally finding out why people are raving so much about vitamin C serums. It is a very good, natural, anti-aging, anti-oxidant product, which neutralizes the free radicals formed by UV rays of the sun (which enter the skin despite sunscreen use), and if used carefully, will really help you keep ageing at bay.

    1. Hi Saloni… Thanks for reading and appreciating my review..I am no expert in this… But I guess since vit e is fat soluble… It might not be recommended for oily skin… So try to use plain vitamin c serums …. But as far as I am concerned… This serum does not leave any greasy feel if used properly… So u might try it first… Coz even my skin is combination now in this summer

  3. When I received the product it was nice and clear. It had a nice feel to it and felt good on my skin.
After a few weeks it oxidizes, going from yellow then to brown. I know that oxidizing leaves the product ineffective.
I emailed the company at least two times with no reply at all.
I left a review on their site but they didn’t print it. I notice they have a 5 star rating. There are almost all fives with a few fours.
If they don’t print all reviews, I believe this is false advertisement.
It would have been nice to at least receive a reply.
