Tom Ford eyeshadows are endlessly raved about. I have been eyeing their quads for quite a while now and with the huge selection, I decided to start with the most basic versatile palette of the bunch, which is the “Cocoa Mirage” palette. Note that this is just a start of obsession and after using these shadows, I am running back to pick more.
Tom Ford eyeshadow quad features four complementary shades that give you a range of looks from bold to smoky, or sexy to subtle. Each features four different finishes too, from a sheer sparkle to a satin to a shimmer to a matte so you can wear each alone or mix and match for an unforgettable look.
Ultra-luxurious and exceptionally classy with a mirror finish compact with gold accents. There is a nice-sized mirror inside and it comes with two double-sided applicators. After coming so far in makeup, I don’t think I will be going back sponge tip applicators even if they are as high quality ones as Tom Ford, but I do appreciate that they are included. It also comes with a velvet pouch.
Texture: These eye shadows are smoother than smooth, they are softer than cloud. Believe me, one touch and you will be so much in love that you might just justify the price tag. They do kick up some powder when you dip your brush in and your brush picks up a whole lot of product in one dip, hence tapping off the excess before you apply might be a good idea. These shadows are so easy and effortless to blend.
Shades: Looking at the palette, the color selection is very simple. It is honestly not very appealing at first sight and may look like basic neutral colors, which it is, but can you have too many neutrals in your collection. I don’t really like to use these shadows on their own as the eye look I get is very simple unless I jazz it up with some colored liners, but that’s the thing with basic colors they are always handy to pair with any other and every other color and the exceptional quality of these powders are what makes this palette a must have.
Pigmentation and Shades: This palette consists of warm-toned shades:
Shade 1 is a warm yellow-toned beige shade. A perfect brow bone highlight. It has good pigmentation, just a slight bit dusty and chalky compared to all the other shades in the palette but still easy to work with.
Shade 2 is a warm caramel taupe. The pigmentation is great. Makes an excellent transition color.
Shade 3 is a warm reddish brown. This shade has a slight satin sheen and some micro sparkles which are only evident if you pack on the shade heavily, blended, it still looks mostly matte.
Shade 4 is a warm dark chocolate brown. Great to deepen out the crease or to use on the outer V.
All 4 of the shades complement each other well and work in harmony. You can absolutely use all 4 of these together and get a gorgeous matte eye look with few easy steps.
Staying Power: These shades show up true to color even without a primer though using a primer is of course an important step if you would like your eyeshadows to wear longer. I noticed absolutely no creasing or fading of these shadows for over 6-7 hours with a primer.
Overall, I do think this a great collection of neutral shades which no doubt a must in every makeup lover’s kit, but do you need to splurge on this palette in particular when most of the shades in this palette can be easily duped, that is a discussion between you and your wallet. But if you do get this palette, I am sure you won’t stop reaching for it to supplement in your every look.
