Tom Ford 04 Honeymoon Eye Color Quad Review

Hello, lovely ladies!
I had been lusting for a TF eye quad for ages, but wasn’t sure which one. So, when TF recently launched his new additions of the permanent line somewhere in January this year, my eyes literally zeroed in onto this quad. I was in love. The only issue – getting hold of TF in India. My friend came to my rescue and offered to pick up stuff for me while visiting India in February. However, the bigger issue was that the quad was sold out everywhere! Like, literally everywhere! I stalked Nordstrom – they had no update on when it would come back. I stalked Neiman Marcus – their tentative date was somewhere in April, which was subsequently changed to first week of August! SERIOUSLY!

So obviously, the desire was fuelled further, but there was no way out. So how did I get my hands on this? Let me put it this way – SRK style – “Jab tum kissi cheez ko puri shiddat se chahte ho, to puri kaynat usse tum se milane me lag jaati hai!”! I’m serious!

Last month, we travelled back to Pattaya for our yearly pilgrimage there. Now Pattaya retail has pretty much all brands except Armani, YSL and Tom Ford. They keep the perfumes for this line, but not the beauty products. However, the Tom Ford beauty products are available in Bangkok. So, while walking through the mall I happened to glance up to find a Tom Ford counter/pop-up store right outside the beauty retail area. I literally stopped in my tracks and then ran! For someone who has pretty much bought all TF based on swatches online, you have no idea how I felt to see the whole line in front of me.

outer packaging

Apparently, since, we were in Pattaya for the Thai New Year, as a part of the special celebrations, the retail outlet had got TF beauty from their Bangkok arm to Pattaya for a month long display. Yay! So, I ran to the counter and asked the lady If she had “Honeymoon” – half expecting her to say “Huh? What??”. You know how slowly products travel from the US market to Asia. She responds with a “yes” and I couldn’t believe her. I actually asked her 3 times – just to confirm! Needless to say, she started giving me some weird looks. Finally she said she had 1 piece – the ONLY piece in the whole of Thailand. Probably in the whole world, available for sale, that is. I swear I became incoherent with happiness. I started doing circles around my bemused hubby asking “Can I buy it? Can I buy it? Can I buy it?” And he was like – “Are you ok? Why are you behaving like this?” He just couldn’t understand what was wrong with me! Poor men!

OK, storytelling over, moving on to the product!

Packaging:
The product comes in a fairly large compact. Fairly large, considering it’s a quad. It’s typically deep brown with gold accents. Looks and feels ultra luxurious. Has a decent weight to it. It comes with two double sided applicators – 3 sides of the brush are sponge and one side is a brush. These are decent quality applicators, but I don’t see the necessity of it. If blushes could come without applicators, so could the eye quad. The compact comes with a velvet sleeve – enclosed in a box with the same detailing as the compact.

My Experience with Tom Ford 04 Honeymoon Eye Color Quad:

The quad is overall warm toned and has a lovely mix of rose gold, coppery, cranberry and plum shades which work very well together. All the shadows are shimmery. The quad does not have a single matte shade. The formula can be applied wet or dry. The shadows show up very well. They are extremely smooth and blendable. Using them wet, gives the shades a more metallic pop.

The colours in themselves may not be unique, I am sure these shades are dupable. However, the fact that they are together in one quad and that too of top quality may well be a collector’s item. No wonder that the quad got sold out as soon as it released, not just in the US but also in UK. Thankfully, it is permanent and will be back.

Shades:

close up

Honeymoon Shade 1 – This one is a warm coppery peach with a frosted finish. It looks rose gold in some lights. It’s opaque whether used wet or dry. Used wet, it really becomes quite intensely metallic. However, there are no glitter particles in it. It did not kick up any dust. Nor was there any fall out.

Honeymoon shade 2 – This one is a warm coppery bronze. Again, this one too has a distinct frosted finish. It meshes well with the first shade without getting muddy. Again, this too applies smoothly and blends well.

Honeymoon shade 3 – This shade is a gorgeous cranberry with coppery red sheen. This is my most favorite shade in the quad. Love! Love! Love! It adds such a pretty pop of colour without it being loud. Just gorgeous!

Honeymoon shade 4 – This one is a dark plum shade with brown undertones. This is the colour which adds depth and balances out the entire quad. This one lacks the frosted sheen, which is a good thought because you need the shade adding depth to not have as obvious frosted finish. This one is more of a satin finish.

applicator

Texture: All the shades have such a smooth, easily blendable texture. And they work really well together.

Staying power: I have tried them with and without a primer. Either scenario, they give about 8 hours plus wear time which is remarkable for my oily lids. And they did not crease on me at all. I am in love!

Pigmentation: Pigmentation is absolutely fantastic. With the added advantage of being able to use them wet or dry – you really have the option of being able to play with the intensity as you like it!

IMBB Rating:
4.8/5

Overall Thoughts:
It’s an absolutely gorgeous palette. If you had to pick just one quad from TF, go for this one! You will definitely love it. The shades are so flattering. Sometimes I wonder, what if “itni shiddat se” I had asked for a 5 carat solitaire! Would that have worked? Hmm…
