Claims : Tom Ford believes in balance and symmetry. The illuminating highlight pen allows you to enhance, contour or diminish your features to create the appearance of symmetry. The range includes eight highly micronized shades: four tones that catch the light and bring focus to the cheekbones and eyes to create balance and symmetry (Citrine, Lavender Voile, Peach Blush and Liquid Bronze) and four tones that act as skin-priming concealers to diminish flaws and shadows (Naked Bisque, Dusk Bisque, Amber Éclat and Sable Intense). All eight tones work to soften and diffuse light for a smooth and undetectable finish.

My Experience with Tom Ford Illuminating Highlight Pen

I always have highlight pens in my kitty. I find them easier to carry around with me. I find them to be instant wake-me-ups. I also love the ease of usage these pens offer. I mostly am a fan of Tom Ford makeup products but this one did not cut out for me.

I picked up in shad eAmber Eclat 07, which is slightly lighter than my skin tone and in theory works fab for my under eye area.

My expectations from highlighter pens are not insane. I expect them to be medium coverage, light weight and adds a bit of luminosity to the under eye area. This one did not live up to the expectations. It was somewhere between a sheer coverage concealer and a wannabe highlighter.

The consistency is creamy. I found the best way to use it was to pat and dab. It looks flawless that ways. No streaking. It sets to a powdery finish and pretty much stays on all day long.  Most highlighting pens would work as a light concealer and if you are looking tired, they add that instant highlight to the under eye area. This is so sheer that when applied on its own, it does nothing. Only if you have a corrector underneath this would work as a highlighter. But on its own.. it falls flat. The before and after of my under-eyes look just the same.

It does not crease or settle in fine lines.

The packaging is quite pretty. The signature bronzy brown with gold. The pen is chubbier than the most highlight pens I have used. But that’s okay. It is a twist up pen with a brush applicator. Basic and effective.

Overall, wouldn’t recommend it. There are sooo many good products out there that you wouldn’t miss this one at all.

This is a random selfie from yesterday – pretty much no makeup on except this illuminator. I had a hectic Sunday and then girl issues. My under eyes had been real bad from past 2-3 days. I was rushing out last evening so just threw on some basics.  Honestly, my under eyes look pretty bad despite the so called ‘illuminator’. 😀 Just dared to post a pic for reference. 😛
