My Experience with Tom Ford Black Dahlia Matte Lipstick
I have a couple of brilliant Tom Ford Matte Lipsticks so adding Black Dahlia to my collection was a no briner. Black Dahlia is a deep reddish burgundy color. It is not your regular burgundy. I feel it it very bold and also has that gothic blackish tone to it.
The packaging is the standard Tom Ford- copper with gold accents. There’s ‘TF’ etched on both the lipstick and the cover. It is a twist up lipstick and the cap closes at a satisfying click.
The finish is semi matte. The staying power is around 6-7 hours one me and the stain stays pretty much until I have removed the color from my lips using a makeup remover.
The wear is very comfortable – neither hydrating nor drying. But just like all matte lipsticks you need to use it on well exfoliated lipsticks or else it would accentuate the lines of the lips.
It is very pigmented lipsticks. It’s pretty opaque at just one swipe and you can build it up as well.
The only con with this lipstick is that you have to do a bit of work to make it look even all over. Sometimes the color looks more saturated on the inside of the lips than on the outside (you’d see in pics below). And this is the case only with this lipstick among the many TF lipsticks that I own. You HAVE to use a lip liner underneath to give it an even base. Or sometimes your lips might end up looking as if you have been having way too many glasses of wine and that has left a darker stain on the inside of your lips. lol!!
Also, if you have smaller lips such as mine you would have to use the lip brush to get to the edges. The bullet is too wide for my lip shape in general.
It has a lovely signature TF vanilla lipstick fragrance. It feels light on lips.
Overall despite a little gripe, I am going to use the lipstick a lot mostly because of the color and the way it feels on the lips. Would totally recommend it. It is one amazing shade for winter season.
