I have been trying and reviewing makeup wipes from several Korean brands. I have enjoyed using some and others not so much. I have mixed feelings about this Tony Moly cleansing tissue that I am going to review in this post. As I have mentioned in all my reviews of makeup removal products, I love to wear makeup, but removing makeup is not as fun. The makeup removing process is messy, it takes a while to get all the gunk off and above of all, most makeup removers leave some residue behind, especially waterproof eye makeup is hard to remove even with high=end makeup removers. But makeup removing wipes do make the process a little easier and considerably mess free, even if they don’t leave face squeaky clean.
The perfect lazy girl skincare shortcut has arrived in the form of our oil infused, deep cleansing facial tissues. Formulated to effectively melt long-wearing makeup, gently exfoliate and unclog pores, and leave skin feeling refreshed and nourished, feel free to forgo your entire cleansing routine with just one tissue!
My Experience with Tony Moly Pro Clean Smoky Cleansing Tissue:
I have tried drugstore wipes from brands such as Equate, Garnier and Aveeno and have also tried the ones by the Korean brands such as Innisfree and Etude House and they all have their own pros and cons. I use at least two wipes a day and hence it is a bit expensive to use high-end wipes on an everyday basis. As I have mentioned before, I personally love MAC makeup removing wipes, but obviously they are not favorable from the price point of view, so I don’t mind using cheaper alternatives which might not perform just as well but still good enough for my everyday needs. These wipes by Tony Moly are good if not compared to the ones by MAC, but they are not for my skin.
These wipes by Tony Moly are soaking wet with the product and although they are not dripping wet; one wipe is sufficient to clean the face and neck, and to even remove some product from lids and water line. After I wipe my face clean with these wipes I soak the wipe’s edge in micellar water and wipe my eyes clean.
But after using these wipes for a couple of days, I got horrible acne. Initially, I did not think these wipes were the culprit behind it, but but after I got three pimples back to back, I realized these wipes were the reason (my skin is not at all acne prone except when I use comedogenic oils like coconut oil or olive oil).
The reason I got acne was because these wipes contains oils such as olive oil, Macadamia Seed Oil, Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil. In my case, except argan oil, rest all cause acne, so all those who cannot tolerate oils with comedogenic rating more than 2 should avoid these wipes.
These wipes come in a packet with a flap to cover the opening that dispenses wipes. These wipes have a very pleasant fragrance. It removes base makeup really well and I remove my eye makeup with miceller water or a cleansing balm. Sometimes I even apply some face wash on the wipe and use it like a wash cloth – I really try to use a single wipe as best as I can and obtain maximum use out of it.
Pros of Tony Moly Pro Clean Smoky Cleansing Tissue:
- Affordable makeup removing wipes, good at removing makeup.
- Easily removes base makeup.
- Each wipe is thoroughly soaking in product and is sufficient for face, neck and eye makeup.
- It contains baking soda which effectively provides deep cleansing by gently dissolving impurities in the skin.
- The packaging is hygienic, dispenses product easily, and travel friendly.
- Pleasant fragrance.
- Does not dry out skin.
- Contains some beneficial skin ingredients.
Cons of Tony Moly Pro Clean Smoky Cleansing Tissue:
- Caused horrible acne because of heavy oils in it.
- Does not remove eye makeup easily, some other products have to be used, but I prefer using a cleansing balm.
Would I Repurchase Tony Moly Pro Clean Smoky Cleansing Tissue?
I wanted to love this product but can’t because it causes acne. I recommend it to those who are okay with using coconut oil or olive oil on their face. It is comparable to more expensive options and can replace a cleansing balm or miceller water for those who don’t wear heavy eye makeup.
2/5 (because it caused acne).
