There are so many facts, fictions and myths out there in this big bad world. The point is whether you believe them all or not. Some myths sound reasonable true, while others are a complete joke, especially when it comes to myths about the beauty world. So I have un-covered a few popular beauty myths out there that should help you grasp a better idea of what’s a myth and what’s true!

You need frequent haircuts for your hair to grow?

It’s all gobbledygook! Cutting your hair only makes it shorter, it does not affect the growth rate. Getting regular haircuts will help improve the overall health and look of your hair by getting rid of all those unwanted split ends. But if your after long flowing locks then all you need to do is;

• Take a daily multi-vitamin with Zinc and Biotin, with a stable healthy diet
• Don’t over brush your hair, this can cause further breakage.
• Drink plenty if water, even though our hair is mostly dead, water is a great source of our body’s healing process.
• Use good quality salon products for your hair.
• And most of all be patient. Remember you hair only grows approx a mere one-half of an inch per month.

Soap is bad for your skin?

Most soaps are salts made from mixing animal or vegetable oils (acid) with Sodium Hydroxide or Potassium Hydroxide. This is a drying effect on your skin by robbing all the moisture out of your skin and leaving no natural oils. The face is very sensitive and even though using soap my be the cheapest option, I cannot express enough on how bad it is for your skin. Fair enough if you use it once or twice, but it is not to be made a common procedure. Our skins normal PH balanced level is of 5.0 – 5.6 which sits between acidic and close to neutral, while soaps PH level is usually approx 8 -10.0, a strong alkaline. So the myth is true….stay away from soap on your face.

Natural sunlight is more dangerous than a tanning bed?

Any exposure to the UVA rays (sunlight) can be harmful to your skin. Too much UVA exposure can cause skin damage, wrinkling, damage to your eyes and the deadliest killer; Skin cancer. Tanning beds produce ultraviolet (UV) radiation and is basically the same as lying in the sun for long amounts of time. Except many people believe that tanning beds aren’t harmful, but they are just as bad as the sun, sometimes even worse. The best idea to get a healthy glowing tan this summer is to fake it. By buying a good self tanner you will still get a great effect and most of all you could be saving your own life.

Your skin will age like your mothers?

Now this is one of the myths that have been blown completely out of the water. No, your skin will not age like your mother. Genetics determine your skin color, texture and pore size but with your skin aging that all depends on your habits and how well you treat your skin. Smoking, poor diet, poor care, sunlight, drinking, stress and many more factors will determine how your skin will age. So if your mother has beautiful clear skin, you better not be sitting back and relaxing, you still need to put the effort into your skin to get the overall effect, and still help slow the aging process. If only skin aging was as simple as following your mothers aging process!

Coffee and chocolate intake cause acne and cellulite?

And once again it’s false, due to the fact that if we simply look around, we can see many women that are always on a diet and particularly steer clear of coffee and chocolate, but they still have cellulite and pimples. Pimples and cellulite’s main cause is stress and poor skin care. Yes too much chocolate can cause weight gain and too much caffeine also has its side effects but so far in studies they haven’t linked these two to be the main cause of acne and cellulite. If both are consumed in small amounts you will never have a problem, remember its all about small portions.

Shaving causes hair to grow back thicker?

Even though it may seem like this myth is possible, it’s not true. Shaving does not affect hair growth or thickness. It may appear that after shaving your hair will grow back quicker but its just by shaving your cutting the hair on a sharp angle, so its not completely taking the hair out of the root. Your cutting it in half, which makes it grow back quicker. Your best option for hair removal to remove the root of the hair is waxing.

Toothpaste Can Cure Pimples?

Well, yes. Just to mix up all the false myths I thought I’d add this wonderful little trick, that I tend to use from time to time. Toothpaste has menthol and other active ingredients that can dry up a pimple and make it heal much quickly than if left alone. However, the same active ingredients in toothpaste that can heal a pimple can also dry up and irritate the skin of your face, so it is better to use a pimple cream rather than toothpaste for your pimple. This is a wonderful little myth that is actually true.

    Actually I kno it mebbe a myth …but believe it or not I have experienced that when I eat chocolates(even 3-4 cubes) I DO get acne….since it happens everytime I eat chocolate,I have reduced my chocolate intake drastically… 😥 😥 😥

    And the toothpaste thingy,I totally agree with you…although I use it as a last option.. 😀

  3. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: toothpaste always works for me!! 😛 :P…I mean for all chotu motu pimples..and I completely agree with the myth description – “Shaving causes hair to grow back thicker” I use that Braun’s silky touch trimmer for my facial hair, and I’ve never experienced any thick or extra growth.     i’d like to say sumthing about sunlight…sum people do not expose themselves at all to sunlight daily and thats bad…we need to expose our arm/leg for at least 15mins a day…so that our body can produce Vit D and then in turn helps to absorb calcium…
    I say this cos many people getting osteoporosis from a very young age these days!!
