How to Stay Fit at Office
This post is dedicated to all the beauties who stay in desk jobs (IT, admin, BPO, reception, billing counter and other kind of desk jobs)
How many of us check out our old pictures during our college times and sigh “how fit we were then”and swear by our jobs that it isn’t possible to stay fit anymore?
I came across many articles which say to stay fit at office, work out at desk, stretch at desk etc.- are these possible in reality? It is fine to say climb the stairs or take a stroll to stay fit – these are possible once in a while, not when you have post lunch meetings and rushing to get into the office on time 🙁
So let’s have a reality check and try to pick up a few tips to stay fit which we can easily put into action to keep us from buying new pair of jeans 😉 )
1. Breakfast – the good old trick
Our first enemy is breakfast, so let’s compromise and accept our enemy.
We slept late
Woke up late
We ate late
Brunch is fine only on lazy Sundays, when you wake up late – not when you are at office.
Personally I hate oats and cornflakes, if you like them, munch on it (also buy a good carton of milk, where you do not have to boil it and can use it directly from the can to bowl 🙂 ) Sometimes, we can’t avoid the morning rush, so on those days hit the office cafeteria to get idli, poha or upma. I can eat poha (aval upma or avalaki bath in south ) all day long, if I cannot make a toast and tea at home, I go for poha 😀 yummy!!
2. Do not go to Amul /barista/ ccd counters at your office and start your day with heavy sandwiches and creamy wraps. My sister blames it on her hubby and kid for not getting time for her. Again how long does it take to fix a bowl of cornflakes? Three item ready in less than half a minute, bring a bowl, pour instant milk and cornflakes 🙂 happy you, your tummy and wallet. Buying them is the key to motivate yourself to have it on a regular basis, check for exiting flavors or muesli and nut mixes …..
3. Caffeine – am an addict
I lub coffees, especially those filter coffees, most of us do not have the luxury at office to get decaf.
Instead have tea at your office 🙂 and also restrict yourself from having more than two per day.
If you have a milk vending machine at office – try different flavors of tea like ginger, cardamom and so on, also tea bags are easy to carry and affordable (assuming milk is free in most of the office ) 😛
How to cut that extra caffeine? Drink water, take a walk, have juice – not working yet? READ BELOW
Go to restroom and hear a ( tazza garma garam ) hot gossip in the office 😉 he he 😛 , we do this all the time. If not catch up with your lady peer two cubicles across and make sure not to march towards the vending machine or pantry, but to the restroom to have some gup sup 🙂
Caffeine does some good to our body, but the sugar is the main villain☹ , so with less sugar, you can go easy on one more cup of your favorite tea or coffee 😀 happy gulping! I don’t like green tea either, 😛 I can drink hot lemon one instead .:)
4. Statue – The immovable
If you are in a meeting, it is acceptable to stare at the monitor or sit at a stretch for three hours or more. But at desk, no matter how busy you are take an occasional break to stay fit, if you cannot leave the place, stand up and sit again. Sharing my trick, but nobody laughs at me here :X I keep one bottle of water in front of ma monitor and keep sipping it, so obviously it urges me to hit the restroom 😛 . LOLZ: D
6. False Hunger pangs
When your stomach has been unattained for a longer time, it gives those hunger pangs (willingness to eat physically and psychologically) but most of them are false alerts: P . Try having water occasionally to avoid such hunger pangs. Bringing salad to office is next to impossible, but occasionally bringing an apple or a banana is possible. Also try juices without sugar or less sugar.:)
7. Stack up
Stacking up chocolates, candies, sugary cookies , aloo bhujiya and chips at office draws or cupboards are harmful. Everytime you open your draw to pick up something, these visual treats will sent a signal to our brain to grab some: P . The evil plot …
Also zero calorie candies or tooth whitening gums are not ACTUALLY calorie free. If any product’s calorie value is less than 5 calorie per serving, they can label them as calorie free. So choose wisely.:)
My office pantry has a fridge, I keep fruit yoghurts of different flavors in them (in that way I can treat my sweet tooth something good) Necessarily this isn’t the only option , you can always find out healthy options like nuts and dry fruits of your choice. Peanuts, raisins or even wheat crackers are a healthy option to replace those salty, oily and fatty snacks (am mentioning it to de-motivate us from consuming it often 🙂 )
