My Experience with Patanjali Herbal Mehandi:

Everyone in my family are big fans of henna. Right from my dad to brother…everyone applies henna! I myself have been applying henna on it for past 7-8 years. Even though I do not have any grey hair (touchwood!), I just love the brownish red tinge it puts on hair. Plus, it conditions the hair so well! Describing my hair type, I have wavy, medium-length hair. It tends to get extremely frizzy if I do not put conditioner and/or serum
I have been using Patanjali Herbal Mehandi from over a year and was a little surprised that its review is not available on IMBB. Coming to the review, this mehandi is not a pure henna powder. It contains many other hair conditioners like amla, methi, neem, green tea etc. So, it can straight away be soaked in water for few hours and applied on hair.

However I prefer to follow my mom’s procedure i.e. soaking it in separately brewed green tea overnight. I use iron bowl exclusively for this purpose. Also, in the morning I add the following to the henna paste:

  • 1 tbsp of besan : this does not let henna stick to your hair
  • 1 small packet of coffee: this gives a nice brown tinge
  • 2 Eggs: this gives extra conditioning and right consistency to apply henna on hair.

Consistency of henna paste is very important. If it is too runny, it will keep dripping on your face and clothes. If it is too thick, it will be difficult to apply. The ideal consistency is like a thick dosa batter!

For easy wash, a shower cap can be worn so that the applied henna does not get too dry. After applying, I leave it for 2 hours and then wash it without shampoo. At night, I apply warm mustard oil. It helps in intensifying the colour. Even when mehndi is applied on hand, we apply mustard oil on hands for the same reason. Anyways, I apply shampoo the next day. This whole procedure is a little long but I feel it is worth it. After shampooing, the hair becomes very silky and soft. It remains manageable even without putting a conditioner. However, I still put serum for that extra control.

Overall, I am happy with the product. It provides really good conditioning to the hair. However, I did not notice any hair growth as such.

Pros of Patanjali Herbal Mehandi:

  • Budget-friendly
  • Totally herbal
  • It lives up to its claims of conditioning and colouring the hair well.
  • There was a slight reduction in hair fall as well.

Cons of Patanjali Herbal Mehandi:

  • Even though the expiry date is after 2 years, the colour intensity is less if used after a year.
  • Does not colour the grey hair that well as it is not a pure henna powder.

Yes. In fact, this is my 3rd pack and I have already purchased the 4th one.

Do I Recommend Patanjali Herbal Mehandi?

Yes. If you are fond of henna, you should definitely give it a try.

  1. Sadly, I am off heena for now, the application takes so much time 🙁 Bhawana, do you have any quick remedy to get rid of dandruff?

    1. Hi Jomol…one of my friends applies vinegar on scalp. She had serious fungal infection and vinegar has been most effective for her. I use a medicated selsun shampoo for dandruff control.

    2. Jomol di apply apple cider vinegar directly on to the scalp and wait for 30-45 mins and wash it off… do this for 4 days continuously and this not only gets rid off the existing dandruff but it also provides lusture to the hair.

  2. nyc review Bhawana … but then i cant apply henna on my hair cz i dont noe y bt i start getting headaches after 15mins…. 🙁 actually i cant apply oil also!!! guess its cz of my migraine+sinus 🙁 🙁

    1. Thanks Dhivya 🙂 Henna is actually cooling, you must be getting headache because of that. You can try sitting in sun while henna dries. I used to do that in winters. Thankfully, no severe winters in Bangalore! 🙂

  3. I would recommend its use to my mom.. She applies heena once in a while, ol thanks to the allergic caused by the hair colors..so heena is the best compensation.. Nice review dear..

    1. Thank you Megha 🙂 Yes this henna would give a nice conditioning. However, if your mom uses henna for grey hair coverage this might not be the best choice! This henna gives light brown color to grey hair.

  4. Hi…Nice Post!!

I have wavy hair with length lil longer than medium length…I used to have nice texture and volume but a year ago i shifted to a new place and water here has damaged my hair…they have become rough, dry and volume has decreased alot…I will try applying henna this Sunday… Hope it shows some nice results.. 🙂

    Keep Posting.. xoxo

    1. What a coincidence! Your name is heena and this post is about henna…:D
