Trend Alert : Collars for Summer 2012

Trend Alert: Collars!

The fashion focus shifts from one part of the outfit to another every season. From neck pieces to shoes, hair bands to cuffs and nail colours to socks, a new piece becomes a fashion obsession from fall – winter to spring – summer. Spring – summer 2012 however was all about what’s below the neck. Yes, collars are having their moment of glory. From colour blocking, exotic skins, zipper detailing to laser cut – outs, collars have been experimented with by designers and were the centre of their attention.

Let’s check out what the designers cooked up this season.

Balmain

Balmain Collars

Olivier Rousteing held up Christophe Decarnin’s edgy style with pride and did a brilliant job with this collection. All of 25, the designer showcased garments which screamed Balmain and were the eye – candy for all the girls out there. Who wouldn’t want to wear these fabulous pieces? Balmain collars are easily my favourite. The intricate detailing is jaw – dropping and it makes for a great d – i – y.

Charlotte Ronson

Charlotte Ronson’s collection for Spring – Summer 2012 was playful and full of fun outfits. Her collars with clever colour block were the talk of the town. The lace collar is what catches my fancy, though. I think it looks feminine and elegant. I would love to pair it with a boyfriend jacket or an oversized sweater to create a contrast.

Elie Tahari

I love anything with metal detail. I was a sucker for the whole studs trend and the zipper – rosette trend! Adding metallic detail can give an outfit a rocker – chic look, which I love! So needless to say I adored the collars at Elie Tahari. The fact that they were on blazers just makes them more special!

Haider Ackermann

At Haider Ackermann, things were a bit different. The collars here were created out of fabric bundled up to form an interesting shape at the neckline. This look can be easily achieved with a scarf as well. I’m dying to experiment with this! Aren’t you?

House of Holland

Henry Holland was on the forefront to give all the emphasis to the collars. Collars ruled his ensembles in hip python print with zipper detail. Don’t these look great? These are going on my wish list for sure!

Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton
Stunners are Louis Vuitton! The Louis Vuitton collar in understated pastels is the most beautiful thing one could lay their eyes on. It instantly uplifts an outfit and makes it fashionable. The laser cutting forms a lovely pattern. This is one collar which can make heads turn and get you noticed in a crowd!

Marc Jocobs

Marc Jocobs
Marc Jacobs struck a chord between a normal collar and a peter pan collar to come up with an interesting shape. The polka – dotted collar peeking over the jacket adds a great touch to the outfit and gives me a great idea to team up printed shirts inside jackets with just a hint of collar showing.

Preen

Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton’s collection for the season was colourful and chic. I love the little ruffled peter pan collars and the stronger colour block ones. The bright pink fuchsia one is so cute! I could eat it up!

Collars are also easy to create by yourself. All you need are a few embellishments and a glue gun and of course some creativity.
So that was your runway low-down on collars. I’m sure you are going to be on the lookout for shirts with attractive collars. I know

I am! Hope you found this post inspiring! Get down to some collar business this season and create a few beauties of your own to sport!

  1. I totally love the collars, reha. A simple collar detailing totally adds a different dimension to the dress/ shirt. 🙂 Haider Ackermann’s take looks super interesting. 🙂 great post!

  2. I love embellished collars but then, Elie Tahari’s one looks very wearable (d first one)..!! But then these models look kinda weird to me..

  3. I was always a fan of peter pan collars and now these designs have given me another reason to love collars. Generally I like all my clothes to have collars and zippers…
