Types of Human Hair Extensions and My Personal Experience

Hey my choco pies,

Today I am going to tell you all how you can instantly add body and increase the length of your hair within minutes. Yes, I am talking about hair extensions!

I had my hair cut in 2011 and my hair didn’t grow long after that. I just love long hair and I regret cutting mine off. After researching on various ways to make hair grow faster, I stumbled upon these and planned to try them. I bought these extensions a while ago and I have been using them a lot ever since. I just love them so much! They have, in fact, become my best friends! 🙂 In the picture below, you can see how these extensions have given me 5-6 inches of length in less than five minutes. Such extensions are 100% safe as you one does not have to go for lasers, surgeries, heat etc to increase the length and volume of hair.

There are many types of hair extensions available in the market today and I have lusted down the most popular ones here:

1. Clip-In Extensions

Clip – ins are the most temporary type of hair extensions, they can be can be applied or removed within minutes.

2. Weave Hair Extensions

Natural hair is braided into what’s known as a corn row. A weft of hair is then sewn onto the corn row.

3. Tape Hair Extensions

Tape hair extensions can be applied quickly and easily too. The pre taped weft of hair is typically sandwiched on either sides of the natural hair.

4. Micro Link Extensions

The hair extension is looped through the natural hair and then clamped on to it using pliers and a metal bead.

I chose to go for clip-In hair extensions as they are very easy to wear and take off too. After using them for a long time now, I can say that they are comfortable too. I got my hair extensions from an online shopping portal. You can buy extensions from beauty where you can feel or probably try it before buying. Otherwise, you can simply get them online, and they are easily available now.

Price:
INR 4500 for 100 gms (10 wefts); they are also available in one piece or 7 weft set.

Texture:
Typically, hair extensions come in three textures – straight, wavy and curly. I bought wavy extensions as my hair are naturally wavy and it matches my hair the best.

Hair Type:
These Extensions are 100% human Hair. Human hair extensions can be curled, colored, or straightened, just like our own hair. Also, they get very easily mixed with our hair and look natural.

Color:
Mine are ‘Dark Brown’ in color, But, you can find extensions in any color you want – blacks, blondes, whichever matches your natural hair color or needs.

Number of Wefts:
3 wefts of 2 clips each.
2 wefts of 3 clip each.
3 wefts of 4 clip each. (I lost one, so I have only 2)
2 wefts of 1 clip each.

So, the total number of wefts are 10.

Length:
I got the extensions of 28 inches. I got around 2 inches of them trimmed, so now their length is 26 inches.

My Experience with Hair Extensions:

At first, I was a bit uncomfortable with the idea of wearing extensions because I was afraid that it would slip out of hair and will look unnatural. Then, I read online that all the hair extensions have silicon coating on the inner part of the clip that prevents slippage even if they are attached to thin and/or soft hair.

I first wore my extensions on my sister’s wedding and I got great compliments for my long and shiny hair. I am fully satisfied with these hair extensions. I have curled them, straightened them, braided them, made ponytails etc. They look natural and beautiful with every hairstyle. It is the easiest way to add body and length to hair within minutes.

Some Important Points:
• Always use heat protectant sprays before using heated tools on extensions as they are made of natural hair and may develop split ends if excess heat is used
• Use any shampoo to wash them, but always go for hydrating and moisturizing conditioner because the extensions need extra moisturisation
• Apply a deep conditioning mask to the extensions once in every 15 days
• I use Himalaya Anti-Dandruff Shampoo, Herbal Essences Hydrating Conditioner and Himalaya Protein Hair Cream. But, I switch the products sometimes too.
