Ulta Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover Review

Hi friends,

Earlier on IMBB, we had a review on Ulta’s Regular Nail Polish Remover.  While reading the review, I heard a lot of grumbling in my closet and who do I see? Ulta’s Non Acetone Nail Polish Remover 😛  It said to me, “why are you hiding me here with all your lotions which keep falling over me and staining my cover.” (I recently spilled olive oil over it). 😛 The nail polish growled further, “Why don’t you tell everyone at IMBB how wonderful I am.” 😛 Wonderful? I pondered. You, the reader….kindly be the judge!

Ulta’s Non Acetone Nail Polish Remover Packaging:

Similar to Ulta’s Regular Nail Polish remover, it comes in a sturdy plastic bottle. However, it is not completely opaque, so I can see the amount present in the bottle. The nail polish remover has a light pink color to it. The fragrance, though very faint, does remind me of my chemical lab. The cap is sturdy and fits the bottle well. It does contain flammable contents so should be kept away from heat.

Price:

6 oz of the bottle is priced at $2.49.

Acetone vs Non Acetone Nail Polish Remover:

Before we go ahead with the review, let us have a quick meet and greet with what makes a non-acetone nail polish remover. Instead of having acetone as the key-dissolving agent, non-acetone remover has other ingredients like ethyl acetate and ethyl alcohol. So, it is not completely chemical free but has lesser harsh solvents. It also contains glycerin to aid in less drying of the nails.  Even though nails are dead cells, the nail beds are living cells, so using acetone-based nail polish removers can harm them more immensely. Non-acetone nail polish removers are comparatively less damaging.  So, if you frequently change nail paints, it is more preferred to use non-acetone based nail polish remover.

My Experience with Ulta Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover:

I mostly use 4-5 drops of the nail polish remover on the cotton pad. Since it has milder solvents, it is not very easy to remove nail polish. It takes 3 -4 swipes to remove the nail paint if I have applied base coat+2 coats of nail paint+top coat.

So the cotton ball usage is also more with this nail polish remover. I go through at least 2-3 cotton balls for using it only on my fingers. The good part is even though I use so much of the nail polish remover, I never had my nails stained with white spots.

It also removes the nail paints completely without leaving any residual shade behind though the skin around the nails does become lightly dry on using this remover. So, I make it a point to moisturize my hands after using this remover.

The nail polish remover has a mild cooling sensation on the skin due to the alcohol content. I have used it on regular nail paints as well as glitter nail paints and on both it has been equally effective.  However, I never had shellac or gel nail painting done, so I have not tried on it. Though I did read that it would not be effective on shellac nail paints.

Ulta Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover

Pros of Ulta Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover:

  • It does not contain harsh acetone as primary ingredient for removing nail polish.
  • Has milder agents like ethyl alcohol and ethyl acetate.
  • Removes both regular and glitter-based nail paints effectively.
  • Glycerin content makes it less drying on the nails.
  • Can be used frequently as it does not leave any white patches.

Cons of Ulta Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover:

(Though the nail polish remover did warn me to write only good qualities about it, I have to list the not-so-good ones here )

  • It takes multiple swipes to remove nail paints as the nail polish remover has milder solvents.
  • Has mild chemical fragrance due to alcohol content.
  • Not useful for shellac nail paints.
  • Have to use more amount for removing the nail paints.
  • Not a very travel-friendly packaging.
  • Only available at Ulta outlet.

IMBB Rating: 3.5/5

Would I Repurchase Ulta Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover?

Even though it is not so “wonderful,” I would still continue to buy this product as it is acetone free (until I find some other non acetone nail polish remover).

Moral of the story: Please shift to a non-acetone nail polish remover if you have not already or you might have your nail-beds growling at you one day 😛

Other User Reviews

ulta non acentone nail polish removerIts biggest benefit is acetone free formula which is eventually visible on our healthy growing nails and cuticles. I am sensitive to acetone as it tend to dry out my nails wiping off natural luster from nail surface and I am relieved of these concerns after replacing my nail remover with this non-acetone nail polish remover so far. However I need more than required for removing nail paints completely out of all 10 fingers or toe nails. But that is not a problem as long as it effectively works on more stubborn week or day old nail polishes which it actually does. It effectively removes every last trace of nail paint off my finger and toe nails in one generous application. The gel nail polishes or glitter nail paints might need second stroke with generous amount of product otherwise it is good enough for normal top coat and creamy, matte nail paints. We certainly need generous amount of product which might be bothering as compared to other brand’s nail polish removers but it is again worth it and justified for its budget friendly price & formula. I will definitely get it again as it serves my purpose so well.- Neetu T Lohani

  1. hehe nice intro Alaka 🙂 . This one is a give and take. Personally I don’t have the patients to take nail polish off.
