It’s impossible to have a conversation about the best eyeliners in the market today, without the name of Urban Decay’s 24/7 pencil eyeliners coming up. If there’s one thing Urban Decay is really good at, it’s producing high-quality eye makeup. And, well, also coming up with names for their makeup that will pique anyone’s interest. Today, I will be reviewing a black eyeliner pencil by the brand, which happens to be named “Perversion.” To see how it performs, read on!

Product Description:

Perversion is a “cushiony, creamy eye pencil” that delivers “powerful, vibrant color that slides on smooth and stays soft and creamy for blending (about 30 seconds), then dries to a long-lasting finish that won’t budge.”  It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.  The shade “Perversion” is described as a “matte blackest black.”

My Experience with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion:

I have been a big fan of Urban Decay’s pencil eyeliner in Zero (a black shade) for the longest time. It ranks pretty high on my list of black eyeliners. I had been eyeing Perversion for the longest time and only started using it pretty recently. The shade is a super dark, matte black; in fact, it’s one of the darkest black eyeliners I have ever used. I wear black eyeliner almost every day and mostly line both my top and bottom lids with it. I have long days that start super early and end pretty late, so finding eyeliner that lasts through the day is a must. In other words, I have pretty high standards when it comes to eyeliners. Now that we have established that, let’s see whether Perversion meets them.

Unlike other Urban Decay 24/7 pencils Perversion, being the deviant it is – is packaged a little differently.  Its cap and end are both black and matte in texture, so is the middle part of the product (I have taken a photo with another pencil for comparison). The shade, as I said earlier, is a blackest black and it’s extremely smooth to the touch. The pencil glides on effortlessly both on the upper and lower-lash line and takes about 30-40 seconds to set. It’s between this window of time that you can blend it easily. I do want to add that even though this pencil is extremely creamy, it won’t break when you apply it or when you sharpen it. There is no pulling or tugging while applying it, which is quite rare for eyeliners that claim to last all day.

I love wearing this on my top lid. It glides on easily and evenly, and one swipe delivers enough color. After it sets, it does not budge until I take it off at night. There is no flaking, my eyes never feel dry and it almost feels moisturizing on my lids. Color looks fresh and even throughout the day. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for how it performs on my lower lash line. Though it lasts all day, it does start smudging and travelling south toward my cheeks after 3-4 hours on me. I have to take a tissue and fix the smudges from time to time to keep myself from looking like a raccoon. Layering black eye shadow on top of it solves this issue, but it takes a little bit of extra time to get ready when I do that.

The best thing about this eyeliner is how dark it is. To really show how dark it is, I compared it to Zero which incidentally is one of the darker black eyeliners on the market today (the photo is below for you to see! Perversion is on the left, Zero on the right). The next best thing is how long lasting it is. I haven’t worn this for 24 hours, but I did sleep with it on once and it didn’t budge all night (even though I sleep on my stomach 😛 ). The pencil is slim and light and aids easy application. It is not self-sharpening, so if you’re on the go, you’ll have to make sure to sharpen it before you step out. I use Urban Decay’s Grindhouse sharpener to sharpen it and there’s minimal product wastage. This product is very creamy and has to be applied with a light hand or you will run out of it fairly quick. It’s definitely become my HG top-lid eyeliner. The hunt for a smudge-proof lower lash line pencil eyeliner is still on!
