My Experience with Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet:

Urban Decays 24/7 eyeliners are very famous in the beauty industry.  It is known as one the best eyeliners in the market. To further expand their 24/7 glide on eyeliner line, Urban Decay has come up with 24/7 velvet eyeliners recently. For now, the only shade available in this line is “Black Velvet” but knowing the fact that it has been so well received by the customers, I do have a feeling that more colors are going to come soon.

Packaging:

The pencil like all 24/7 pencils is very smooth, sleek with a very secure cap.

Texture:

The texture of these velvet pencils are a little bit more dry than the ultra-creamy 24/7 pencils. Even though it is a little bit on the powdery-dry side, it still applies very smoothly, does not drag or tug at all.  It also is very easy to smudge out to give that perfect smoky smudged out liner before it sets to a complete budge-proof and smudge-proof state.  It can easily be smudged out with a q tip and takes a few minutes to set, so you have just enough time to work with it.  It also applies very easily on the waterline and does not irritate my sensitive eyes. It does not smear or bleed from the waterline and has never given me “raccoon eyes.”

Due to its dry nature, I have noticed a little bit of fall out which does not create a lot of mess, but it is definitely something to take into consideration. You can see the fall out in my EOTD below – clinging on my lower lashes which was the result of the fall out while I was lining my waterline.  The dry nature will work to an advantage for oily lids who have not been too impressed with the creamy 24/7 liner.

Color:

The shade “Black Velvet” is described as a rich matte smoky black. I am a big fan of kohled dark eyes, hence I am always searching for a deep black liner. Some of the eyeliners in the market are sometimes not dark enough for me, but I do find this black velvet eyeliner to be very deep black. It is definitely blacker than the shade “Zero” and almost similar in darkness to “Perversion.” The finish is notably matte which will work to your advantage if you were to use this as a smokey eye shadow, it would give you an amazing “rocker chic” look.

Staying Power:

This is definitely a long wear eyeliner. Once given the opportunity to set, it does remain budge proof for 7-8 hours on my upper lid. It is also water resistant to some extent, but does remove easily with an eye makeup remover. On my waterline, the staying power was about 4 hours, after which the intensity starts to fade, but I can still see the liner.  One fact to consider is that my eyes are watery, so for those with dry eyes, it may wear even longer.  The only con I have noticed is that this pencil is a little bit difficult to sharpen and that leads to a lot of product wastage.  Every time I try to sharpen it, the tip breaks up and sticks inside the sharpener.  It maybe due to the dry nature of the pencil, but it’s definitely a waste of money when so much product gets wasted.

I am overall very pleased with the quality and performance of this liner. I do wish they come out with more colors soon.  I would recommend and repurchase.

In the EOTD, I am wearing Black Velvet smudged out on the upper lid and also on the waterline.
