Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush Review

Hi Gals,

Hope you are enjoying your days! We are also enjoying summers with barbecue and get together! Anyway, today, I am here to share my ultimate gift from IMBB – a perfect foundation brush and true to its hype, “Urban decay good karma optical blurring brush.” I was never comfortable with face makeup, even foundations, until I came across some miracle products such as Sephora collection classic mineral powder brush and now this UD good karma brush. Now, I enjoy wearing foundation on my skin unlike earlier days. Moreover, I am looking forward to try my hands fully on face makeup before visiting India! So, let’s move onto this ultimate gift – Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush.

Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush

Price: $25 for a single brush.

Packaging:

I love this brush for its hygienic packaging unlike my previous Sephora brush. It comes in a sleek, hygienic but fragile cardboard box which can be easily slipped inside makeup vanity or travel case. It gets full on marks for its user friendly, hygienic and travel friendly packaging.

My Experience with Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush:

I must say this brush is worth the hype and true to its claim word by word. It is made from recycled aluminum and does not slip off from my hands while working on with makeup even in the current hot/humid weather.  The next impressive feature is its synthetic, cruelty-free bristles, which almost feels like soft cotton balls on my skin. It almost feels like feather irrespective of blending or buffing on my skin.  Its rounded dome shape does help in fast blending and buffing while covering every nook and corner of my nose and under eye area.

Talking about its other impressive features, I love the fact that it blurs out any cream, liquid and powder foundation on my oily, acne prone skin very well. It was designed to work with UD Naked Foundation as they say, but it is highly impressive to see that it works perfectly with any kind of foundation. However, I think it’s best with liquid and creams foundations. I would have never known that I could get flawless coverage with L’Oreal Visible Lift Absolute Serum Foundation before discovering these blending tools.  It blends that thick and creamy foundation on my skin within seconds without sinking inside my pores and/or accentuating dry patches. I can never go wrong with my makeup while using good karma as it sets and blends my foundation nicely and effortlessly no matter whether I use my foundation sparsely or more than required.

The difference is also visible with my other liquid foundations which blend onto my skin like second skin leaving behind a dewy and luminous glow and all credit goes to this Urban Decay brush.  I totally accept that now I love wearing foundation on my skin. Recently, I started using BB creams and this good karma brush gave me fantastic results with thick BB creams as well.  Though I do not use it with my powder foundation unless I need touch ups or I need to set my makeup. I also tried using it with loose powders and it did give me even skin tone though I still love to use Sephora Mineral Powder Brush for loose powders.  I read that Sephora classic mineral powder brush is a dupe of this good karma brush and since then I was keen to try it out.

Now that I own both of them, I can say that, yes Sephora did try its best to come closest to this UD brush; however, the original is after all original and hence I would always prefer Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush for foundations and BB creams as it buffs and blends my foundation within seconds irrespective of the consistency of products.  It does not give streaky or feathery finish – just blurs foundation on the skin like a dream, that too with a few gentle strokes.  Moreover, it’s super easy to clean up; I just cleanse it with soap solution and warm water and it has never shed a single bristle so far.  It does take time to dry up, but it is relatively fast as compared to Sephora Powder Brush.  I also observed that good karma bristles are more soft and fine as compared to Sephora though Sephora powder brush seems slightly sturdy in nature. We cannot ignore the fact that good karma is limited to foundation while Sephora powder brush works great with powders, blushes and bronzers as well.

Overall, I would highly recommend this good karma brush to every makeup junkie irrespective of your skin type.  Its mild and gentle on the skin.  Even if you own its closest dupe, you need to get it to discover the difference between perfection and almost perfection, you know what I mean? I am wearing foundation every now and then because of this brush. I cannot wait to lay my hands on other good karma brushes.  I will definitely try other brushes once I become a pro with blushes, bronzers. Till then, I am more than happy to own this good karma blending brush and already planning to get its back up for myself and my sis.

Let’s sum up pros and cons:

Pros of Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush:

  • A fluffy, soft foundation brush made with recycled aluminum and synthetic soft bristles.
  • Its sleek, polished body easily fits in my hands, even in hot/humid conditions.
  • It gave me perfect blending results with liquid foundation irrespective of the consistency.
  • It also works well with cream foundations, blending them like second skin, even on oily and acne-prone skin.
  • It never accentuated my acne prone skin, does not settle into the pores.
  • I always get flawless coverage and blending with my foundations and BB creams.
  • Gives even finish even if you are a novice.
  • It also helps in buffing powder foundation on my skin though I would like to use it occasionally for touch ups and setting makeup.
  • Soft bristles which are very mild and gentle, feels almost like feather.
  • It attains its fluffy, round shape after cleansing or washing with soap water within a few hours which is relatively fast as compared to the Sephora Powder Brush.
  • Hygienic packaging, easy to carry around.

Cons of Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush:

  • You can find dupes for this brush.

Well, I own Sephora powder brush which works with all types of face makeup and since it is supposed to be a closer dupe of good karma brush, it is obvious for me to compare their results and utility. In short, I would always prefer Urban Decay Good Karma Brush for foundations while I would prefer Sephora Mineral Brush for mineral makeup and face powders. If you love to own different brushes for face makeup, then you should definitely go for the original urban decay good karma brush while if you are on budget and want quick fixes for all tasks, then better splurge on Sephora brush, which will replace all your brushes.  For me, this brush gets certainly 10/5, a must-have brush in every make up junkie kit! You should get it to reveal its wonders.
