Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick – Matte 1993 Review

Hello everyone,

After seeing the amazing feedback of the New Urban Decay Matte revolution lipsticks here on IMBB, I was tempted to try some colors from this range. A while back, I picked up two colors which I normally shy away from and which are way out of my comfort zone, and my resulted feelings on them were kind of unexpected. This review will be on the shade “1993.”

Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick Matte 1993

Product Description:
A super-creamy, non-drying matte lipstick in an array of intensely-pigmented shades.

What it does:
Urban Decay’s creamy, non-drying Matte Revolution Lipstick is as rich and buttery as the original formula. With a range of never-before-seen shades—from neutrals to brights to deep-dark colors—lips get bold color with a matte finish and velvety feel.  Matte Revolution Lipstick is enriched by Urban Decay’s proprietary Pigment Infusion System, giving it an ultra-creamy texture, high-pigmentation, and optimum color pay off. Shea butter and a nourishing blend of avocado, olive, and babassu oils deeply condition lips while illipe butter—sourced from Malaysian illipe trees—provides long-lasting hydration. Lastly, vitamin C and E deliver a dose of antioxidants to lips.

My Experience with Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick – Matte 1993:

Packaging:  Comes in a sleek lipstick tube. All the Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks – original, sheer and matte versions have the same exact packaging except for the difference in the color of the tube. All the matte lipsticks come in a glossy black case with a purple tube inside. There is no indication of the shade of the lipstick unless you read the label on the underside which can be frustrating for those who own a couple of shades in the lipstick range like me.

Texture and Pigmentation:  The creamy smooth texture and feel of this lipstick came as a big surprise to me as matte lipsticks are usually dry, but not this one.  This lipstick has a creamy smooth buttery texture which glides effortlessly with no tug on my lips. It imparts full color pay off in 1-2 swipes, enough to cover even the most pigmented lips. It does not bleed.

Shade and Finish:  I will typically never opt for a brown lipstick as seeing my mother abuse a brown lipstick in the 90s gave me a feeling that brown is only for mature ladies. But with the comeback of the 90s trend in everything – from clothes to makeup, brown lipsticks have become all the rage right now.

The shade “1993” is described as a medium true brown which is absolutely true. It looks incredibly flattering on my light-medium skin tone and pairs great with any makeup which calls for a neutral lip. The shade could easily be interchanged for your MLBB lipstick and trust me, the result will surprise you in a good way. If history is any indication, brown lips have always looked amazing on desi skin tones.

This lipstick goes on slightly glossy with sheen initially, but dries to a creamy matte in a while. The creamy feel and look of this lipstick is incredibly forgiving on my dry lips. It never looks flat and does not accentuate fine lines. This shade contains no shimmer.

Staying Power:  Fantastic staying power. This lipstick stays on my lips for 6-7 hours with many snacks and drink breaks before I start to see some fading, but even then, the color will easily stay on the lips for 8-9 hours without touchups. I find that I do require a reapplication after a full meal if it is particularly oily.

Fragrance:  I cannot detect any fragrance.

Overall, one of the best shades and a very forgiving creamy matte lipstick formula on the market. This color is an overlooked gem which I highly recommend you to get.
