Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation Review

Hello everyone,

This review will be on another product from the Urban Decay Spring 2015 collection. It is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra definition Powder Foundation.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation

Product Description:

An ultra-creamy, buildable, wet or dry powder foundation that leaves a weightless feel and demi-matte, Naked Skin Finish.

What it does:

Master a demi-matte, full-coverage makeup look that lasts all day with Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation. The advanced, velvety formula delivers weightless, buildable coverage—that can be applied wet or dry—creating a radiant, no makeup look that doesn’t leave the skin looking dusty or cakey. Formulated with coated, micro-milled powders, this foundation diffuses light to blur the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles while Highlighter Performing Pigments Technology offers rich color and the perfect balance of coverage to even out your skin tone.  It is formulated without parabens.

How To Use:

Use this formula dry for a lighter, more matte effect, or use it wet for even more perfected skin.

  • Try wetting the double-sided sponge’s cushiony top (just look for the UD logo) to get the most color and evenly apply Naked Skin Powder Foundation. The other side features velvety flocking, great for buffing and blending.
  • To create a truly flawless Naked look, use Urban Decay’s Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush to buff out lines and give your skin an ultra-definition finish.
  • For a really blown-out effect, wear Naked Skin Powder Foundation over Naked Skin Beauty Balm.

My Experience with Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation:

Since I do have dry skin, I usually do not go for powder foundations. I am not saying that I never wear powder foundation.  In fact, Bare Minerals Original Foundation (powder foundation) still ranks as one of my top favorites, but most powder foundation usually are unforgiving on my dry flaky skin.  I was a bit concerned while picking this up, but nevertheless, I still took the plunge and I have to say I am so glad I did. This is a fantastic product!

Packaging:  Comes in a sleek gunmetal shade compact. It has a nice sized mirror and an applicator. The applicator is dual purpose. One side is a powder puff which is useful for dry application and the other side is a sponge texture useful for wet application. It also comes with a little pouch. I don’t exactly use that pouch for storing this product, but I do use it for keeping a bunch of my lipsticks and touch-up makeup in my purse while traveling, it helps me not misplace them.

Texture:  This powder is so smooth and silky, has an almost creamy velvety feel. It was not at all difficult to apply this product, but I did find that that applicator picked up too much product, hence I use my own tools with this powder and keep the applicator that’s provided when I am traveling.

Application and Coverage:  This product provided medium coverage. I absolutely love using this product as a setting powder over any other method. This product along with the Naked Skin Concealer is a true match made in heaven. It sets my under eye and prevents it from creasing and also improves its wear remarkably while keeping my skin looking matte and silky.

I use this over a BB/CC cream with a kabuki brush and it gives another layer of light coverage along with diffusing the harshness of my makeup giving it a smooth and velvety look. The finish is not too matte, but it is definitely not shiny or glowy.

I was hesitant to use this product on its own as a foundation, but I was pleasantly surprised when I did. I used my damp Beauty Blender to use this product wet and it applied beautifully with the same velvety finish and medium coverage. I did not find it sticking to my dry patches or accentuating them (provided I use a light layer of moisturizer underneath) nor did it accentuate my pores (I do not have a huge issue of big pores, but if you do, using a silicone-based pore filling primer underneath will help).  It did not look too powdery or too chalky. I most definitely enjoyed using it in this manner.  It feels very lightweight on the skin.

Staying Power:  Staying power is good. It stayed 6-7 hours as a powder foundation. My face did not feel shiny or greasy by the end of the day. It improved the longevity of my makeup when used as a setting powder.  It did not crease or crack.

Shade:  This product does come in many shades along with numerous undertones. It is a bit tricky for you to find your shade. I was “medium light neutral” in the Naked skin concealer and the same shade in the powder foundation was too dark and warm for me. Hence, I picked up the shade “Medium light cool,” which is a good match for my NW 22-25 skin tone.

I did find that it did oxidize just a little bit, but not too drastically and did not make my face look like I couldn’t recognize myself at the end of the day.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation

Overall, this is a fantastic product for those who are a fan of powder foundations already, but even if you are not, this works great as a setting powder too. I will most definitely recommend this product to all of you.

Pros of Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation:

  • Gives a beautiful velvety matte finish to the skin.
  • Does not make the skin look flat.
  • Does not accentuate my dry patches or pores when worn on its own.
  • Works great as a setting power, improves longevity of face makeup.
  • This paired with the naked skin concealer works wonders for the under eye area.
  • Does not make me shiny or oily by the end of the day.
  • Sleek compact with applicator provided.
