I am here to share a lip gloss from Urban Decay called “Apocalypse.” I came across a few gorgeous shades from this “Revolution High Color” lip gloss range and even though I am not well impressed with the texture and finish, I find the shades flattering and must-haves for this festive season. This time, I bought their winter wine shade after getting tempted seeing people who wear this shade with so much ease and grace. However, I am yet to gather the confidence to wear it on my pale skin tone as it looks much more prominent on my lighter complexion.  Anyway, let’s read more about Urban Decay Revolution Apocalypse High-Color Lip Gloss.

My Experience with Urban Decay Revolution Apocalypse High-Color Lip Gloss:

The gloss comes in a transparent barrel tube packaging with a doe-foot applicator attached to a tight fitting gunmetal cap. It does have a weird smell which subsides after a while.  Overall, it is definitely a travel-friendly and user-friendly packaging.

Coming to the shade “Apocalypse,” which is described as a “deep purple wine,” – it’s true to its name as it comes up as a deeper wine color on my lips with purple undertones. It is a shimmer-free, intensely pigmented, creamy gloss with a slight translucent finish because I can see through the minor flaws on my lips.  Hence, it might be tricky for deeply pigmented lips though it will definitely conceal minor/light lip pigmentation unless we watch closely.

However, the shade seems a bit loud for my lighter skin tone. At least, that’s what I think after wearing it out, as if it shouts for all attention towards me 😛 However, I haven’t lost hope as I am planning to wear it in winters when the sky goes all gloomy and nights are colder to make it more wearable on my skin. I feel it is a perfect shade for medium/dark skin tones as I have seen my MIL wear it always and that’s why I always used to link wine shades with vampy mil’s 😛 But I want to change that concept of wine in my mind as well as life 😛

The texture of this gloss is creamy and quite easily spreadable yet it comes up so uneven on my lips. Even if I swipe it multiple times to get an even coverage, it never comes up anywhere close to a neat finish. In fact, layering may accentuate bleeding and cause tackiness in the finish. I have also noticed that it has a tendency to cling to dry patches on my lips which does not look odd, but it may be counted for an uneven semi-opaque finish on the lips.

Surprisingly, the gloss seems so hydrating and comforting on my lips, I feel my lips are soft and smooth even after removing the gloss. It does not feel drying or accentuate dryness on my lips, which is really impressive.

The gloss stays for good 5+ hours on my lips with light meals though it may fade a little from centre, but it’s manageable because even if we swipe it once or many times during day time, we are not going to achieve a flawless neat finish 😛 Probably wearing it over a lip liner or lip concealer may make a difference though I wear my glosses on bare lips and like to keep it that way, hence this texture is a bit tricky for me.

I would certainly recommend this gloss to you if you are okay with layering it over your lip colors or lip liners as it may give flawless glossy shine that way, else it’s no good! I am also not convinced to get it again though I would definitely wear this shade in winters to get over my phobia of wearing such wine shades.

 

Let’s sum up pros and cons:

Pros of Urban Decay Revolution Apocalypse High-Color Lip Gloss:

• A lightweight, shimmer-free, creamy formula.
• Winter-y wine shade with purple hue which will suit medium/dark skin tones.
• Easy to spread yet thick enough to cling on to lips to impart semi-opaque color payoff.
• Does help in covering up minor lip flaws to some extent with its semi-translucent formula.
• Does not accentuate or cause dryness on lips.
• Hydrating.
• Does not dry out lips.
• Stays on for 5-7 hours even with light snacks, it may need touch up after that.
• Quite an attractive and travel-friendly packaging.

Cons of Urban Decay Revolution Apocalypse High-Color Lip Gloss:

• The shade is tricky for pale/light skin tones.
• The texture of gloss is such that it never comes up neat even with several attempts.
• Layering often results in bleeding and tacky finish.
• Tricky for pigmented lips.
• Clings on to dry patches.
• Expensive considering it’s just an average lip gloss.

Well, if you ask me, I think we do have so many better choices in the market, both drugstore as well as high-end brands that perform better than this shade in every aspect, right from the finish to formula. I don’t think I would get it again though I may pick up wine shades from other brands.
