Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Fiend Review

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Fiend Review

Hey guys!

Me and Urban Decay go way back. In fact, it’s because of Urban Decay that I got involved in the beauty community. If you are wondering how so, here’s the story: way, way back in 2008, the first YouTube beauty video I watched was on how to de-pot the Urban Decay Primer Potion.  At that time, the product came in this awful package that wasted a lot of product, so you had to cut the tube, scoop the product out and store it. Anyway, the rest is history. Today, I’m happy to be part of the vibrant online beauty community and will be talking about a lipstick from the brand that started it all for me.  I will be reviewing the shade “Fiend” from their revolution lipstick line. To find out whether it’s a hero or a zero, read on!

Product Background and Description:

According to the Sephora website, this lipstick “is rich, buttery lipstick at its best—with the signature Urban Decay pigment-rich color you crave. Addictive to apply (and even more addictive to wear).” It “glides on without dragging or skipping and hugs every curve. Just one swipe gives you a big, gorgeous lay down of color.”

Price: $22 for 0.09 oz.

My Experience with Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Fiend:

I have been stepping outside my comfort zone a lot lately when it comes to picking colors. Thanks to IMBB, whom this product was a gift from, I have been trying a lot of shades I wouldn’t normally pick as I gravitate more toward darker lip colors. Fiend is totally out of my comfort zone, but I am enjoying wearing it a lot. Sephora describes the shade as a “muted rose,” and I would describe is as a medium rose-pink. The shade appears to be a lot deeper and warmer on my forearm than my lip, since my lips are pretty pigmented and my face is tan (and pasty arms need some sun!).

What I absolutely love, and I cannot stress this enough, about this product is how opaque it is, while being creamy at the same time. The kind of color payoff I get with this product is usually what I get from matte lip colors. It’s very rare to come across a lipstick that’s creamy and super pigmented at the same time. This delivers a lot of color in just one swipe (I’m wearing one swipe in both the lip swatch and on the arm swatch). Color goes on smoothly and evenly on the lips. The finish is super creamy with a teeny bit of sheen to it.

I am on the fence about the creaminess. While I love that it doesn’t dry my often-parched lips out, this shade looks a little odd on me if I don’t pat it down with a tissue after applying it. In other words, I love how the texture feels on my lips; I just don’t like how it looks when freshly applied since I tend to favor matte finishes. Even when I pat it with a tissue, my lips don’t look or feel dry so it works well for me. This lipstick is definitely long lasting and lasts 5-6 hours on me before I need to reapply, even through food and drink. This stays put inside of the lip line and doesn’t bleed; even with how buttery and creamy it is. I haven’t experienced any feathering either. It moisturizes the lips and eliminates the need for a chapstick. Pretty cool!

The lipstick has no discernible taste or fragrance. It is also formulated without phthalates, sulphates and parabens, which is always a win in my book. The rose-pink shade is universally flattering, but will look a little different according to your skin tone and the color of your lips. I will definitely repurchase more Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks, maybe not this color. That’s only because there are so many more to try!

Cons of Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Fiend:

  • I can’t think of any besides the fact that I don’t like how it looks on me when freshly applied, but that’s just because I prefer semi-matte/matte finishes, not a reason to take points off.
