Viseart Minx Theory Palette Review

Hello ladies,

Another eyeshadow review coming up today, from one of the most-raved brands when it comes to eyeshadows. A number of their eyeshaow palesettes have already been reviewed on IMBB  – Viseart Dark Mattes, Viseart Bridal Satins, Viseart Sultry Muse. This review is for their 6-pan palette – called the Theory palettes – in the shade “Minx!” Get your coffee, sit back and relax – this may be a long review 🙂

My Experience with Viseart Minx Theory Palette:

Packaging:  The packaging on this one is quite neat! First, it’s really really compact. The palette fits into the palm of your hand. However, even though the palette is small, it constitutes only the eyeshadows – there is no wastage of space. For example, the MAC Times Nine palettes are also small and have eyeshadow pots in them, which are way smaller than the regular pans – there is a lot of space around them whereas this one has full-sized pans with barely any space between them. The palette has cardboard packaging with a plastic container glued on for the shadow pans. The outer cardboard packaging opens up in such a way that it can be turned around to be set up like an easel. The palette has a plastic cover to avoid damage. This entire packaging comes with a cardboard sleeve – quite like theBalm packaging. I would say that it is quite a fuss-free, yet an intelligent packaging.

As per the Company, the Viseart eyeshadows come in 3 finishes:
1. Matte
2. Satin
3. Shimmer

The original 12-pan palettes come in a single finish – so, either the entire palette is matte or shimmery or it’s satin. Considering that these palettes are designed for the consumption of professional MUAs, this makes sense. However, for a makeup enthusiast interested in trying Viseart, it’s not really ideal. Also, the 12-pan palettes are priced at $80 for a palette. Price per shadow may not be too high, but to buy a full palette of and drop $80 at one go is too much.

So, Viseart came up with this perfect solution – the Theory palettes. Let us dig down into them:

1. For one, they are better priced at $45, so your investment just dropped down to about half and you get 6 eyeshadows. The price per shadow is still comparable to the price of a MAC eyeshadow – remember, that for MAC singles, you will need to invest in an empty palette too.
2. The other great thing about these shadows is that 6 shades in each of these palette has a variation of finishes – so you get 3 matte and 3 shimmer shades, which is excellent because you do need a mix to do a complete look.
3. The colours in the “Theory” palettes are in a particular theme – there is Cashmere for something neutral, Chroma for something cool toned – grey and the one up for review – the warm toned “Minx.”

4. The matte side has gradient shades meaning – a light shade, a mid shade and a deep shade whereas the shimmer side is a mix of shades, with at least one light shade for the inner corner or brow bone. Having the gradiently darker shades in matte shadows make this quite a cohesive palette because it allows you to create a full look with just this palette.
5. Not only does the palette allow you to do a complete look, it also allows you to move from a formal look to a casual daytime look or an “amped up” evening look just because the selection of colours is so thoughtful.
6. Considering the size of the palette and the selection of colours, this is a great palette to travel with. I carried it with me on a recent trip and thoroughly enjoyed using it.
7. If all of the above wasn’t good enough – there is another unique fact about the palette – the individual pans can be pulled out – they have a magnetic setting, so you can easily take them out and move them into your professional kit or a z-palette or something. Or if you have more than one Theory palette, you can select the 6 shades which you most use and place them together.
8. The only bummer for me is that Viseart hasn’t come out with more of these – these launched somewhere around March-April 2016 – and Viseart hasn’t extended this line. Honestly, I would love to get more of these, but the other 2 palettes Chroma and Cashmere don’t call for me.

So, the story on these, this palette was love at first sight. It’s a different story that I first saw it on the blogosohere and not in person. The moment I saw this, I knew I wanted it. The issue was how to get my hands on it! Luckily, hubby was travelling to US, who by the way, did not even offer to take me with him – not even once! I bet he thought I’d camp up in Sephora in Times Square and not budge from there. Well, he probably got that right! So 😛

Anyway, the issue was, at the time of the launch, these were available only on Sephora.com site, not in store. Sephora wouldn’t accept my credit card – not a US card and the sites which would and which did stock Viseart (like Beautylish, Alco, MuseBeautyPro, etc) – did not have the Theory palettes yet!! I was so so frustrated! For the first time in my life, I actually wrote to the Company – thinking they wouldn’t really care! And was totally zapped to find that they did care and they got back to me. They checked around if any of their retailers had this in store. Sadly, none of them did. However, I was seriously impressed with this Company bothering to help procure a product for the customer. Yes, it is a sale for them, but you know how few people/Companies actually bother with customer service – especially the Indie ones! I’ve spent 13 years in Customer Service – trust me when I say this – this was exceptional. Anyhow, I finally found a retailer in UK and my friend there helped me procure it!

Let’s discuss the shades here:

The shades don’t have any name or number to them, so I’ll just go through them from top to bottom. Before I do that, I would like to mention a couple of things on the Viseart Mattes…They are not flat mattes – they don’t make your eye area look dull, dead. They kind of have life. Also, they blend and diffuse very well – with each other and with the shimmer shades. I had a genuine issue – when Neha suggested to me to pick up the Viseart Mattes because they were so amazing – I was a bit conflicted. Issue was that I had hardly any matte shade in my kitty, like just a couple. The only big pre-made palette I had was the UD Nak*d, which again has just a couple of mattes. So, I tried the mattes in MAC store, I kind of liked the shades – Cork, Espresso, Charcoal Brown, Soft Brown, these are all excellent quality mattes. So, thought I could work with mattes and went ahead and picked up a couple of Viseart matte palettes, but I still couldn’t figure what the fuss was all about. They were excellent but the MAC ones were good too – all blended easily, all had good colour payoff, they worked well, weren’t flat mattes. It finally hit me a couple of days back when I received another matte palette and realized – “Oh! All mattes aren’t equal! Mattes can have issues with colour payoff, they may need to be built up to show the true colour, they can thin out on blending, they can be chalky, they can make your eye area look dull and lifeless!” Needless to say, I have new found appreciation of Viseart mattes. Going through the shades, from top down:

1. Minx shade #1-This is a light peachy shade, very close to my skin colour, so it doesn’t show up on the finger swatches much. It’s perfect for an easy wash of colour on your lid to brighten the area or a matte highlighter for the brow bone or just the base colour post application of your primer.
2. Minx shade #2 – This is a medium dark reddish brown with a smooth texture. When used lightly, it works well as a crease shade or even a transition shade. For a daytime look, this can also be used in the outer V to deepen it.
3. Minx shade #3 – This is a stunningly smooth dark deep warm brown shade with excellent pigmentation. It works well for deepening the outer V, or for a halo eye look or for a smokey eye look either.

So, basically, you can do an all-matte look or use these basic matte shades and incorporate the shimmers to come up with a more glam look – works either ways.

Coming to the shimmer shades: These are absolutely stunning in texture. All 3 are buttery smooth, almost creamy in texture and have such amazing colour payoff. They are almost metallic in their sheen. Going through them – from top down:

4. Minx shade #4 – This is a slightly peachy champagne shade with the most amazing creamy texture, works well as a pop of shine on the lid or in the inner corner of the eyes. Used lightly, could also be applied to highlight the brow bone.
5. Minx shade #5 – This is a warm orange-y copper shade, with excellent colour payoff and is such a gorgeous shade.
6. Minx shade #6 – This one is a muted warm burgundy with hints of brown, it’s another gorgeous shade. It’s quite similar to one of the shades in the Tom Ford eyeshadow quad in Honeymoon, which was reviewed by me earlier.

Texture:  I have already detailed the texture of the matte as well as the shimmery shades separately. Both are top quality. The shimmer ones actually remind me of the Natasha Denona shimmer/metallic shadows, with just one difference – that these do not highlight the textured skin of my eye area.

They kick up absolutely no powder. There is zero fall out while applying. The shades apply so easily and blend and mesh together so well.

There is no transference during the course of the day. This is an important aspect for people who have hooded eyes and face problem with eyeshadows transferring onto the upper lid while the eyes are open.

Pigmentation: Pigmentation is fantastic, especially the metallic shades – you can see that in the swatches – a little goes a long way. You get exactly the colour which you see in the palette. They blend well together, but do not become a muddy mess.

Staying Power:  Disclaimer – I apply my eyeshadows with a primer because my lids are way too oily. No shadows – and I mean literally no shadows stay put on my lids for more than a couple of hours, if applied without a primer. These shadows wear for a good 8-9 hours – if not more. I do take off my makeup by about 9 hours max. Even at that point, the shades look more meshed together, but not really patchy or creasing. You can pretty much apply these and forget them for the rest of the day.

Pros of Viseart Minx Theory Palette:

  • Excellent array of shades – half matte and half shimmery metallics.
  • Super pigmented.
  • Extremely smooth, creamy texture.
  • Zero fallout.
  • Long wearing.
  • No creasing.
  • Does not transfer.
  • The colours blend easily and mesh very well together.
  • Did not irritate my eyes.
  • Travel-friendly packaging.
  • Easily depottable.
  • Cohesive – can do a full look with this palette.
  • Great for everyday work look right up to full-on evening event glam look.
  • Excellent customer service.

Cons of Viseart Minx Theory Palette:

  • Wish there were more options in the Theory palettes!! 😉 My wallet says – That’s not a con!! 😉

IMBB Rating:
5/5

If you have been wanting to try the Viseart palette – I’d say the Theory palettes are an excellent place to start. Plus, it’s a more cohesive palette with options of matte and shimmer. I’m sure you will like these better than the original 12-pan palettes. In terms of colour selection, I think “Minx” has the right mix of shades – it’s warm toned, has a distinct variation between the shimmer shades – can help produce quite a few distinctly different looks. I think it’s a definite winner.  The Theory palettes are a great option for the general consumers (as also for the professional MUAs). I feel that the Company has actually tapped into the consumer’s requirements and delivered an alternative to the 12-pan palettes. The beauty is that the alternative isn’t something half hearted, half baked. It’s well thought and literally hits the ball out of the park!

  1. KK, it’s always a pleasure to read your reviews! You look GORGEOUS!! Both the palette and you are absolute stunners xx
BTW, do you have any idea if Viseart is available in Italy or Germany?

    1. Thanks so much for your kind words Abinaya!

Viseart is a french brand. Not sure if it retails in Germany and Itlay. However, i am sure that one of the e commerce sites like Beautyb*y or L*veMakeupshop or B*autylish would gladly deliver Internationally. I would suggest that you contact Viseart through their Insta/FB – I’m sure they will help you with info of any retailers in those 2 countries.

  2. Wow you look beautiful, you have really worn your makeup very nicely. Also like the lip colour you have used, suits you a lot. Nice review!
