My Take on VLCC Hydrophobic Sun Block Lotion SPF 50:

I go swimming in the months from March-May every year and I get tanned badly because of the sun and the chlorine in the pool. Earlier I never used sunscreen/sunblock before swimming, but this year, I decided to try it out. When I went to buy one, the market was flooded with so many brands and each brand again had so many varieties, especially, Lotus brand which offered SPF up to 90. I was tempted to buy that, but since I was buying for a specific purpose, I skipped it and instead bought VLCC Hydrophobic SPF 50 meant especially to be worn while swimming/water sports.

Sun Block

I just love the new packaging of VLCC, it looks good. The first thing I noticed was its smell, it has a fresh raspberry smell. The texture of the lotion is creamy, not too thick nor thin. It does take a bit of effort in blending the cream on your face and hands. Also, it doesn’t get completely absorbed easily. You have to rub-a-dub-dub. My husband, me and my daughter would go swimming in the morning at 7:30 and every day me and my husband used to fight about who is going to apply this thing to my daughter?

It makes the face super oily. As it is, I have oily skin and the first time I applied it, I was worried about break outs. But it did not break me out at all for the entire duration that I used this cream. It was okay for me to look oily since I was going swimming, but I would never wear this and go shopping. It makes your face look super oily, shiny. My husband also started applying this sun block on his face and hands 10-12 days after us after his face and hands got tanned heavily and ours didn’t. I hated it though! He is fairer than me and I so wish for him to tan, but duh! instead he started using sun screen lotion!

Did this sun block lotion completely protect me against tanning? No dear, I did get tanned, but every year, I become at least 3-4 shades darker, and this year, it’s probably just 2 shades. Also, we are in the pool for like 1-½ to 2 hours. Perhaps if you swim for just an hour or so, it might really prevent you from becoming completely tanned.

Swatch

This year onwards, sunscreen/sun block is a must for us when we go swimming. If you also, go swimming or even to a beach or a resort for water-activities in summer, do take along VLCC Hydrophobic with you.

Pros of VLCC Hydrophobic Sun Block Lotion SPF 50:

  • For swimmers, this is a MUST buy.
  • Does protect you from tanning.
  • Protects from UVA and UVB sun rays.
  • No breakouts.

Cons of VLCC Hydrophobic Sun Block Lotion SPF 50:

  • Scary looking ingredient list.
  • Makes face oily.
  • Doesn’t blend easily

  1. Thanks for the review, Sheetal. It doesn’t seem like the kind of sunblock that I’d buy and so, will steer clear of it. 😀

Regarding that swimming tan, I don’t think anything can help prevent it completely. However, go and buy some cucumber gel and immediately after you take a post-swim shower, apply this gel on dry skin especially arms, neck, face and legs. You can keep it on for the whole day, especially if you’re not going out again. Otherwise, just wash it off after an hour. It helps in brightening the skin.

  2. i knw it s not the right comment but can u pls suggest some good place for swimming…i hv been dying to learn it and cant find agood pool anywhre in delhi.
