Wayne Goss Brush 13 Face Brush Review

Hello lovely ladies,

Today’s review is on a Wayne Goss face brush. Recently, Wayne discontinued his entire Face Brush collection (Blue Squirrel and dyed goat hair brushes) and replaced it with un-dyed white goat hair brushes. Most of the shapes remained the same, except for a couple of brushes. However, the brush changed fairly drastically, so much so that, some of my favourite shapes from the earlier brushes, I can’t get them to work with the new hair. The old Wayne Goss 13 brush had been reviewed by Neha in 2015. This review will be for the new, existing face brush 13.

Product Description:
The workhorse of face brushes, Brush 13’s unique shape enhances the application and finish of foundation, powders, and more. The workhorse of face brushes, Brush 13’s dense, dome-shaped silhouette optimizes the application and finish of all types of foundation—plus mineral powder, bronzer, blush, and more. Supremely soft, all-white natural hairs glide over the skin, building coverage from sheer to full seamlessly without disturbing dry, flaky skin. Brush 13 is also available with The Face Set. Blend powders and foundations to an even, polished finish effortlessly. Brush 13’s short, plush bristles push product into the pores to smooth the skin’s texture. With its tapered shape, this incredibly useful brush offers endless possibilities for setting, contouring, highlighting, and more. Each brush is carefully handmade in Kumano, Japan by more than 20 artisans using traditional brush making techniques.

How To Apply:
To apply cream, liquid, or powder foundation, use Brush 13 to buff product into the skin with circular motions. Brush 13 works especially well with mineral powders. Use light strokes to build up blush, bronzer, and highlighter wherever you desire. We recommend washing your brush occasionally with warm water and a gentle soap or brush cleanser, such as Clean Apothecary Brush Shampoo. Dry your brush with a Brush Guard to maintain the shape of the bristles. Hair type: Goat. Cruelty-free.
Price:
USD 53.

My Experience with Wayne Goss Brush 13 Face Brush:

The brush came in a cellophane/BOPP sheath; it’s a simple packaging, no fan fare.

Hair Type: Goat hair. Wayne has not specified which goat hair has been used, but they are incredibly soft. Despite being densely packed, the hair doesn’t splay out. They are held tightly together and never feel even the slightest bit scratchy or uncomfortable.

Hair Color: White, un-dyed goat hair.
To be used with: For use with powders, liquids, and cream products.

Shape: The brush is dome shaped with a medium=sized head, a round ferrule and densely packed hair. It is quite airy and very fluffy. However, despite being so fluffy, the bristles do not splay and they work together. It is like a slightly bigger, denser, enviably softer version of MAC 109.

Purpose: The brush is supposed to be a multi-tasker – can be used with foundations, blushes, powders and bronzer/contour. Technically, it is one brush which you can use to do a full face of makeup. You can blend in your foundation, especially if you use a mineral foundation, you can apply blush, contour, or your bronzer with it. You can technically, even apply the highlighter with it, but it won’t be the best option to do that. Lastly, it is quite perfect for buffing. The brush hair work in unison giving enough tension at the surface that it buffs the product; yet being so soft and gentle that they don’t move the base product off the skin.

Application: Now that we have identified the purpose of the brush – let us talk actual application. I find the brush to be best suited for 3 tasks:

Applying blush – especially if it hard pressed pan. The dense brush head is able to pick up sufficient product and apply it onto the cheek while effectively blending out the product and the edges. It works excellently for blushes with gellee texture or the ones which you have a touch time picking up product on your brush.

Considering its similarity to MAC 109 – it comes as no surprise that the brush works well for contouring. No, not the chiseling out of cheeks like a drag queen, but more of creating a natural shadow under the cheekbone and blending it effectively. The brush works beautifully for buffing technique – despite its small head. Yes, it takes longer to buff the whole face, but the softness of the hair coupled with the tenacity of the goat hair, do an extremely effective job of buffing a finishing powder into the skin.

I do not find the brush as effective for liquid or powder foundation. The bristles have more give and are more airy than what I prefer for foundation application. Also, I find the brush head to be small for bronzing and contouring the perimeters of the face.

So, in effect, all these tasks can be performed by the brush but the question is – what is It more suited to? I think I have answered this above.

Pros of Wayne Goss Brush 13 Face Brush:

  • Well made, balanced brush.
  • Natural white goat hair.
  • Effective for its identified job.
  • Does not shed on washing.
  • Quite a workhorse.
  • Gives a controlled application.

Cons of Wayne Goss Brush 13 Face Brush:

  • Nothing at all.

Do I Recommend Wayne Goss Brush 13 Face Brush?
The brush truly is a multi-tasker and comes in super handy for travel wherein it cuts the need for 3 brushes that you would normally need to carry. I do enjoy the brush but I cannot say that it is a NEED to have product. However, if you want to experiment with fude and want one from Wayne Goss Collection – this would be my best recommendation – since you will be able to use it in multiple ways.
