Shaving is the quickest hair removal method and is a weekly affair for many. We love wearing our sleeveless dresses and shaving the underarm becomes a must during the long summer-monsoon times in India. At times, regular shaving causes a dark shadow in our underarm area. Try Natural Bleaches
Use natural bleaching ingredients like potato juice or cucumber juice on the underarm area. Apply the juice all over the area. Let it dry in 20-30 minutes and wash it off. Regular use for a week shows a lot of improvement. Using Vitamin C based products, like lemon or orange, is not recommended. Even though they have bleaching properties, they often irritate the skin and worsen the condition.
Alternating between waxing and shaving can be super effective. Waxing does not leave the shadow or darkness behind. Also, it helps to remove the darkness from the last shaving session. You can try shaving your underarms once or twice followed by waxing. Waxing has a long-lasting effect and thus delays the next waxing or shaving schedule. You can also wax twice a month and shave only in the cases of emergency.
Switch Up Your Deodorant
The skin is a little sensitive immediately after a shaving session. Using any harsh deodorant after that can irritate the skin and darken the area. You must opt for skin-friendly deodorants. There are many alcohol-free options available in the market. They are great to deal with this problem. Using underarm whitening deos can be also helpful.
Moisturize and Exfoliate
Many people tend to forget this, but your underarm skin needs exfoliation, just like other parts of the body. There can be ingrown hairs due to shaving and exfoliation can only deal with the problem. Exfoliate the area well before shaving. Also, after shaving, exfoliate the underarms with a body exfoliator twice or thrice every week. You can also use a whitening exfoliator. However, do not scrub in a harsh manner. This can worsen the darkness. Also, do not forget to moisturize the area well. Using a soft moisturizer or lotion twice a day makes the skin soft and supple. It also improves circulation and helps in new cell generation.
Try Retinol-Based Creams
At times the problem stays on and the home remedies do not work. You must consult a doctor in such cases. Doctors often prescribe retinol based creams to deal with these conditions. Topical application of retinol creams for a few days helps to remove the dark shadow. However, continuous use may damage the skin. Also, retinol makes skin sensitive to the sun. You must apply it after getting back home from work at night. Also, apply some sunscreen in your underarm area while walking out in the sun. This will protect the sensitive skin from burning.
