Hello amazing girls,
We all desire to wear a saree for our school farewell party. If the idea of wearing a saree for the first time ever is giving you the jitters, stay tuned!
Beg, borrow and steal
Raid your mom’s wardrobe and see if something catches your eye. Most girls wear something from their mother’s wardrobe on their farewell. It adds to the charm and sentiments, plus your mother would love to doll you up in one of her Kanjeevaram or Benarasi sarees.
Choose fuss-free fabrics
Don’t go for tricky drape styles that are difficult to do and carry. Choose simple styles and practice a bit before the event. Also, choose easy to carry fabrics, like georgette, and steer clear of fabrics that are a hassle to carry and require a lot of effort to drape. Since this is your first time you don’t want to worry about issues like getting your pallu right.
Don’t go too blingy if it’s a day party
Don’t wear something too shimmery and glimmery that will catch a lot of attention under the sun. Since most of the school farewell parties are held during the day, wear something in pastel and light hues to look classy and sober.
Carry a clutch
Always carry a clutch or a side sling. You can easily put your phone, makeup, money and other essentials in it.
Don’t wear sky high heels
From personal experience, I have seen girls wearing sky high heels for the first time ever with sarees at the farewell and it never ends well. Instead, opt for comfortable heels like wedges or kitten heels and don’t try to go over the top with stilettos if you have never worn them earlier. Also, don’t wear brand new shoes on the day of the event to avoid any faux pas or discomfort.
Go easy on jewellery
As tempting as it might be to wear heavy danglers or bangles with your saree, refrain from doing so. Since it is your first time in a saree, go easy on the accessories. Stick to a simple bracelet, a couple of rings, watch and cute drop earrings. On the other hand, if you have spotted a statement necklace that you think would go fairly well with your saree, and the rest of your outfit is pretty understated, then you might give it a try.
Experiment with draping styles
You don’t have to stick with traditional draping styles but make sure you go for a fuss-free and classy look. Also, instead of draping your saree on a traditional petticoat, you can try draping it around leggings and palazzos.
Experiment with prints
There are a variety of prints like tribal, geometric and even animal that you can experiment and play around with. However, make sure you choose something that flatters your body and works down your flaws.
Club a fancy blouse with a plain georgette/satin saree
This combination looks really well on young girls and helps in showing off all the curves perfectly. You can even add a sleek kamarbandh on your waist to further accentuate.
Carry a lot of safety pins
They will be very useful in keeping the pleats of your saree in place, plus there will be always that one friend at every farewell who will keep bugging everyone for a safety pin or two.
Go light on makeup
While lots of makeup combined with a saree can add years to your age sporting a simple eye makeup, with a little blush and lip gloss will make you look young, fresh and vibrant. Again, stay away from dark hued lipsticks and shimmer. Always remember that less is more when it comes to makeup.
Get everything worked out in advance
With your exams coming up, you will not have enough time to prepare your outfit and think about accessories. To manage studies with fun, it is necessary that you plan your outfit at least 2 weeks before the big event.
That’s all for today. Hope this helps.
