Wear to Work Shimmers- Tutorial
Who says you cannot wear shimmer to work? Just follow some basic guidelines and you can rock all your favourite colours in the Office and everywhere!!!

Here are some basic tips for wearing shimmer eye shadows to work:
- Keep the colours subtle. Pastels are the safest bet.
- If you are using more than one shimmer eye shadow, use colours in the same family. Drastic contrast can attract unwanted attention.
- Use flat shadow brushes to pack up the shimmer eye shadows.
- As most shimmer eye shadows show more fall out, it’s useful if you spritz a little rose water on to your brush before picking up the shadow.
- This drastically reduces fall out and prevents you from looking like a disco ball.
- Combine shimmer shadows with mattes creatively to create a balance.
- Women with small or deep set eyes should use shimmer eye shadows on the lid while keeping the highlighter at the brow bone matte.
- Always apply a dark, thin liner on the upper lash line to define your eyes if you are wearing shimmers. Otherwise, your eyes will look like a shiny ball without any boundaries.
- Avoid using shimmery shadows on the lower lash line for office wear. It looks a tad too dramatic for work.
So let’s start with the tutorial.
Here are the things I am using.

- Urban Decay Eye Shadow in “Midnight Cowboy rides again”. It’s a very pale shimmer y pink.
- Maybelline Chai Latte Quad- All colours except the matte brown for lid.
- Maybelline Gel liner
- Maybelline Colossal Volume Express Mascara
- Aromaz Rose Water
- Maxfactor Age Renew Foundation and Maybelline Whitestay UV compact on the face.
These are the tools I am using:
- Faces Flat Eye Shadow brushes (2)
- Coastal Scents Round Contour brush for Crease
- Coastal Scents Angled Fluffy brush for brow highlighting and blending
- Coastal Scents Angled liner brush for applying Gel liner
- Eye lash Curler
- Coastal Scents Kabuki brush
Let’s start the makeup:
1. Start by priming your eye lids.

2. Apply a light, shimmer eye shadow from the inner 2/3 rd of the eye. Like this:

3. Apply a bronze/shimmer brown eye shadow in the outer corner and blend inwards.

4. Apply a dark brown matte eye shadow in the crease. Concentrate the dark colour in the outer corner too.

5. Apply a highlighter on the brow bone and blend all the eye shadows together seamlessly.

6. Apply a thin line with a liquid/gel black eye liner on the upper lash line. Draw a thin line in the outer corner on the lower lash line too.

7. Curl your lashes and apply mascara.

8. Do up both the eyes.

9. Finish the look with your favorite pink/mauve/nude lipstick and a natural looking blush. I have skipped blush here.
10. Here’s the finished look.
Hope you like the tutorial and find it useful. I did this look before I went to work myself. So I can vouch for its safe use in office environment.
Lots and lots of love

Wow – Mrunmayee. Thanks! I’ve always been sceptical of going shimmer to work. I have a Chambor eye shadow trio and the gold shimmer goes all over my face in no time. (I am not a great artist either 😛 )
How long does this look stay and doesn’t the shimmer spread all over?
Shimmer falls out when the eyeshadow has too much of it 😛 so try to use a primer :))
Thanks Chethana… As Ki said use a primer or else spritz a little rose water/water on your brush.. Don’t dip your brush in water. That will pack up the colour and avoid fall out.. Try it!!! :kissblow: :kissblow: :kissblow:
Great..very useful..thanx Mrun
