Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Precious Petals Review

Hey ladies,

It is quite unbelievable since how long I have not reviewed a single face product! There have been so many eye shadow and lipstick reviews – even skincare, but face products like blushes and highlighters seem to have taken a back seat and how can we have that! Right? So, here is the review of this highlighter which has taken the world by storm. Let us find out if all the noise is really justified! I know my Instagram post from a couple of days back must be a total give away on how I feel about this product, but for everyone else, read on about Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Precious Petals.

Packaging:
The individual pan comes in a square plastic packaging with a transparent lid. There is no outer cardboard packaging, which is in line with most drugstore products. No mirror or brush either. Obviously, all these things add to the price of the product and if you strip them of, it contributes to the lower pricing. There is a sticker on the flip side with the details of the ingredients along with batch code. The lid securely tightly. I do not know if time will impact the tightness of this adversely. The pan is fairly big in size and I have a feeling that it wouldn’t be running too deep. So, I wouldn’t advice travelling too much with it – lest it shatters. The product in the pan has this specific design which is utterly gorgeous to look at. It actually mesmerises you. I am trying my best to use the product not he size and not mess with the design too much!. 😉

My Experience with Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Precious Petals:

A brief about the product – Wet and Wild launched this product a while back, as Limited Edition highlighters – in 2 shades – “Precious Petals” and “Crown of my Canopy,” with “Precious Petals” being the lighter of the two. The product did extremely well for them and became their number one selling highlighters. Seeing the success of the MegaGlow highlighters, they decided to not only make the product permanent in these 2 shades – but also added more shades to the line – including some more out their shades like Royal Calyx (purple toned). As I have mentioned in my Insta post, this had been on my radar since ages. It would keep popping up on every other post from an Instaseller and I was so tempted to get my hands on this, but I resisted for 3 reasons:

One, I wasn’t sure if I would do it justice if I buy it. I thought it would quite likely disappear in the hoard of mid-priced to high-end highlighters in my stash. Secondly, I needed another highlighter like I needed a hole in my head! *eye roll” I was keen on trying the new shades in person before taking a call. And I knew that Boots Thailand and Central Pattaya, both, stocked limited range of Wet and Wild products. Also, at the back of the mind was the thought that if I saw it in person and got to swatch it, I may not want it! Boy, was I wrong!!

Needless to say, it came home with me! It is so so stunning to look at.

Shade:  The shade looks about medium in the pan but swatches light to medium. It is a soft warm rose gold – like a more easily wearable version of rose gold, with a metallic sheen. There is no shimmer, no fine micro-glitter – just a smooth metallic sheen. Needless to say, the metallic-ness lends it a pronounced effect. So, the product gives a more metallic, wet look on the skin – or what I like to term as the “Insta-culture highlight” – which is “visible from space” types. You get the brief 😛 However, Precious Petal can be sheered out and used more lightly – it is quite easily blend-able. Once sheered, the colour becomes lighter while the shine remains – though more diffused.

It works very well for our medium Asian skin tones. It should work well even for light skin tone – though, may not be as lifting. For very fair skin, this would probably be a blush topper. On the other end of the spectrum, I should look lovely on tanned skin. However, going more deeper, this may look more stark and the other shade “Crown of My Canopy” might work better.

In terms of a dupe – the only shade which seemed similar to this – from my stash – was Kevyn Aucoin Starlight. Though “Starlight” too has a pronounced highlight, it is a traditional powder formula and is much more refined. Also, Starlight being non-metallic, is way more forgiving on someone with textured skin.

Texture: The texture is soft and smooth to touch. It is extremely easy to pick up on most brushes and blends beautiful. If you use a more fluffy brush like the Wayne Goss Fan Brush, you can apply it lightly. If you use a smaller, more tapered brush or a more dense brush, you will get the distinct Instagram highlight. With a heavier application and the metallic sheen, it will show pronounced texture on your skin though.

Pigmentation: The pigmentation is good but it doesn’t go on as dark as in the pan. So, on application, it gets even more diffused giving a soft subtle rose gold with a more pronounced shimmer, which is good for a highlighter.

FOTD: In the FOTD, the shade has been used on the highpoint of the cheekbones and above the brow bone. It does look more yellow in the FOTD because the same was taken indoors in warm light, but you get a clear pic on how distinctly metallic the highlight is. The swatch and blended out pics give you a more clearer view of the shade.

Longevity: The product wears exceptionally well. It stays put for 7-8 hours – which is a lot on my oily skin.

Pros of Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Precious Petals:

  • Soft and smooth powder.
  • Frosted metallic sheen.
  • No shimmer particles or even fine micro glitter.
  • Blends easily.
  • Fairly long-lasting – even with my oily skin.
  • The colour can be made to look subtle but you get the feel that it is designed for a more pronounced highlight.
  • Did not break me out.
  • A little product goes a long way.

Cons of Wet n Wild MegaGlo Highlighting Powder Precious Petals:

  • The packaging worries me; not the fact that it is plastic and looks cheap. That is understood considering the price point. My worry is the pan size which may result in it shattering if not handled properly.

IMBB Rating:

4.8/5

“Precious Petals” is absolutely stunning – to look at and in application. I think it is a good formula and a lovely rose shade , especially in light of all the yellow toned highlighters doing rounds nowadays. It is quite flattering on medium skin tones. I am glad Wet and Wild decided to make it permanent.

Another point that I would like to mention here, which I had mentioned on my last instapost as well. It isn’t that the highlighter is so fantastic considering it is $4.99 (in US) product. On the contrary, the product is fantastic irrespective of the price. Had the same product been released by say Becca or Smashbox or someone with a $35 price tag – people would still have been lining up. I wouldn’t be surprised to know that the factory which makes these also makes highlighters for other higher-end brands.
