Wet n Wild Megalast Retractable Eyeliner – Blackest Black Review

By Prajakti Raunak

Hello everyone,

Till a couple of years back, I never really took much interest in makeup. One reason for this was the fact that I hardly understood/knew anything about it! This was until I started following IMBB. It has been fun as well as insightful! It’s been a pleasure reading the awesome posts and tutorials and I hope such great articles keep coming.  The product I would be reviewing today is ‘Wet n Wild Megalast retractable eyeliner’ in the shade “Blackest Black.”

My Experience with Wet n Wild Megalast Retractable Eyeliner – Blackest Black:

I HATE it!!!! It is definitely one of the worst eyeliners I have come across! I am so disappointed with this product. I love products by Wet n Wild, especially their lipsticks and glosses.  Price wise, they are cheap and work really well for me. So, I assumed that this eyeliner might also be good.  The eyeliner is a regular twist up, retractable one with a smudger at the lower end. The packaging is pretty standard (nothing great). Can’t really expect a lot for $2!! However, it is really sturdy and travel friendly. The cap fits really well. However, at times I feel it is way too tight!!! You actually have to use a lot of force to open it. The smudger is tough and so hard! It does a decent (not great) job of smudging.

Now, let’s come to the shade. I don’t find it to be the “blackest black” shade, very misleading shade name. To actually get the “blackest black” shade, I had to swipe it at least four times.

The texture is dry, hard and not soft and creamy. The application isn’t smooth and it definitely does not “glide on smooth” as the product claims! It involves a lot of tugging and pulling to precisely outline your eyes. On application, it looks a bit cakey.

It does set quickly though. It did not sting my eyes even when I applied it on the waterline.  But it hurts!! It really does!! I love it when my eyeliners have a fine, soft tip and I do not have to sharpen them (so I end up choosing retractable twist up ones most of the times). A sharp tip for precise application is one thing and a product that is made to damage your eyes is a completely different one!! I had to apply so much pressure to actually get some product out and make it visible on my lower lash line. Application on the upper lash line is less painful though.

When applied on the waterline, it stays for about an hour or so. On the upper lash line, it stays for about 4 hours, but it keeps fading. After about 5 hours, I find a very light hint of colour on my lash line. My eyes tend to water a lot. So I need eyeliners that seriously stay put and don’t budge at all. When I applied it on the lower lash line, I got big time racoon eyes once!!! This eyeliner might be okay for use on the upper lash line, but if your eyes tend to water a lot, it is a big no-no for the lower lash line.

Wet n Wild Megalast Retractable Eyeliner

I have a tiny gap in my left eyebrow. I tried to fill it using this eyeliner and it did a decent job. I have used this a few times as an eyebrow filler and it works well. But during summer, my skin tends to get a little oily. Due to this and the humidity, it smears a bit. So, it might not be great during summer, or for oily skinned beauties.

Pros of Wet n Wild Megalast Retractable Eyeliner – Blackest Black:

  • Reasonably priced.
  • Does not sting or irritate the eyes even when applied on the waterline.
  • Good as an eyebrow filler.

Cons of Wet n Wild Megalast Retractable Eyeliner – Blackest Black:

  • Not a great shade, the name is pretty misleading.
  • Very sharp tip, hurts a while applying.
  • Lot of tugging and pulling required.
  • Not smooth and creamy. Texture is cakey.
  • Staying power is not so great.

IMBB Rating:

1/5
