What are the Side Effects of Bleaching: Ask IMBB

Ask IMBB Gang

Lakshmi B. asks:

Will bleaching cause any side effects? Two days back, I bleached my face and the result was pretty good, but I am worried that it would cause wrinkles or ageing spots on my skin at an early age!

  1. It depends upon your skin actually..for me bleaching causes dark patches and burns my skin so I never use it..also i have heard using it frequently will spoil the texture of the skin..one in 3 months should be fine 🙂

  2. according to skin sensitivity it should be used
Herbal bleach or home remedy to bleech ur skin using food items potato might help

  3. I use the pink fem one..meant for fair skin
till date i think those are the mildest on me
yes they can give u brown spots over time
i use it once in two months
try the ones with pre bleach and post bleach i like those:)
    keep it minimal

  4. Bleaching is definitely harmful in the long run as it has loads of chemicals.. U can try natural bleaches like tomato juice or lemon juice.

  5. bleaching removes a layer of YOur skin maKING IT PRONE TO SUN DAMAGE AND ALSO REMOVES MOISTURE..MAKE SURE U SLATHER A LOTTA SUNSCREEN AND ALSO MOISTURISE TO KEEP UR SKIN SUPPLE AND HEALTHY..DO NOT BLEACH MORE THAN ONCE A MONTH AND LEAVE IT ON JUST FOR A FEW MINUTES..ANY KINDA BLEACH , BE IT HERBAL OR CHEMICAL HAS H202 AND HENCE WILL CAUSE SIDE EFFECTS ON THE LONG RUN

  6. bleaches have lots of chemicals and i know women who have got uneven dark patches on face due to bleaching….so, use wisely dear

  7. Hey lakshmi i think you should have got an idea by now. I always go for facials without bleach as mine is extra senstitive skin and bleaching triggers a full bout of acne. Guess you should consult a dermatologist if you are planning to get your face bleached regularly.

  8. Avoid bleach in possible, if not then use mild bleach. Bleaching also it depends on which bleach you use and how much quantity of activator you mixed. If used with less activator and light bleach, followed by sunscreen and regular scrubbing you can bleach after 45 days. Try bleaching in evening/night so that you are not exposed to sun for next 12 hours. Best home made remedy is to use besan, turmeric and lime and rub it on face. Besan will reduce facial hair and lemon will help in hair look light.

  9. For me bleaching my face and neck has been working great. I have been bleaching for the past 10 years atleast. I do get a pimple or two immediately after my face has been bleached but they go away in a couple of days. i do remember to run an ice cube all over my face post the bleaching.

However I do agree it has loads of chemicals and on different skin types it might work differently. I do like home remedies but for bleaching purposes it might take a long time before the effects show up.

  10. Skin bleaching destroys the black pigment found in the top layer of the skin. Exposure of the lower layer to the harsh weather will increase the incidence of skin cancer. Two active ingredients- hydroquinone and mercury is harmful for skin in long run.

  11. Hi gals, i think it depends on skin types and the quality of the bleach and also the right time to remove the bleach.. mine is a combination skin and i bleach approx once in 2-3 months and i havent really had any issues since past 4 years at least.
Lately i have tried the herbal bleach from Fem and its really good and hoping since its herbal, its good…

  12. If not bleach, what are other options for facial hair? I dont want to do any laser and such treatments… just a replacement for bleaching options…. I tried besan and lemon idea… but I get bored in the long run and leave it half way… those who have followed this, do you have to do this forever like? what frequency can I follow for besan and lemon option?
I have combi-acne prone skin and my face currently is a battlefield of acne…

  13. Hi Lakshmi,

For me, bleach has never worked. It has always left patches and burns on my skin. Now, I use it only sparingly and on selected areas to lighten facial hair. I do not use it for any other purpose. Even if bleaching showed results on your skin, you should not use it often because it would harm the skin in the long run.

  14. i have sensitive skin & i m using bleach from past 1 year. bleach didnt harm my skin. i just feel a bit of itching on my face while applying it. u can use vlcc bleach as it has some natural ingredients. 🙂

  15. You can’t stop bleaching once you start. The natural glow of your skin wont be back and you will have to rely on bleach to get the temporary glow that lasts only for 2-3 days! Better notto optfor it. I optfor threading.Painful but it gives me satisfactory result. its safe atleast!
