A lot has happened in the last couple of days, including me feeling extremely overwhelmed by your response on the write-ups posted earlier – Tips on Shopping for High End Makeup. Thanks for all the love and affection you sent my way! Feel blessed! I’m back to my roots or should I say pouts and here I bring to you another Glossy Stain from YSL. I remembered shade #9 earlier – Rouge Laque, a bold gorgeous red. Today, I bring to you a bold rosy deep pink #13 – Rose Tempura!
A revolutionary new lip product! Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long-wear of a stain for a truly innovative lip product. A lightweight texture that immediately melts onto lips. Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain delivers intense glossy colour for an extremely long lasting new kind of shine. The applicator’s unique slanted tip and short soft bristles allow for flawless application with perfect precision.
How To Use:
For natural shine, apply one coat on the center of the lips and brush towards the outer corners. For more coverage and sophistication, apply two coats using the outer curved side of the applicator, then dab on the formula generously over lips.
US $35 / INR 2200/THB 935 (I picked this from Bangkok Duty Free).
As is synonymous with YSL, packaging looks classy. The product comes packaged in a lip gloss kind of packaging with YSL logo displayed prominently on the golden cap. The product side of the tube is black in colour sans a strip of transparency allowing you to identify the colour. However, the material is some sort of plastic because it lacks the heft of a Rouge Volupte! The bottle comes packaged in the standard YSL golden outer box. The applicator shaped like a spade, is soft and slightly bent (refer pics). Makes for easy and precise application. I prefer the length of this applicator (vs Giorgio Armani Maestro), since its not very long, precise application is easier.
My Experience with YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain – Rose Tempura:
As I mentioned in my previous review, this is more of a liquid lipstick than a lip gloss. Yes, it will add shine to your lips, however, the pigmentation and the staining effect is more like a lipstick. YSL’s online site too has a separate category for it and does not feature it under their lipsticks or lip glosses.
Color: The colour “Rose Tempura” is bright, bold, glossy, rose pink – its not red fuchsia or magenta, its bold dark pink with a prominent rosy hue. The colour instantly brightens any complexion taking centre stage. Keep everything else minimal with this one too. In case you try it in the mall, you have to be cognizant of one thing, the colour visible immediately post application is not the true colour. It kind of intensifies in a couple of minutes. So for people, who like subtle tints, please wear the colour you pick for a minute or two and then decide if it fits your requirement.
Texture: The liquid lipstick itself has a lightweight texture, it is a watery liquid, which sets to a more gel-like consistency once applied. As I mentioned earlier as well, the texture of the testers was more creamy while the fresh product is lighter and more liquidy. So, this will become thick over time, meaning there is a shelf life to the product. However, it may not happen very quickly because the testers in stores see way more contact with air than our products do.
Since, it becomes thicker on contact with air, similarly, the texture on lips post 5-10 minutes of application moves from watery to gel like and continues to retain the glossy finish. It’s hydrating and very comfortable to wear.
The texture is such that touch-ups do not feel patchy. You know how sometimes you touch up a lipstick and it looks all patchy with dry patches and glossy ones, this does not do that. Rather, it goes evenly making the colour look fresh and bright. Also, you need to remember not to purse your lips post applying this as lines will form!
Pigmentation: The pigmentation is great. You get full colour with one application; however, you need 2 coats to make the application even. With a single swipe, you do get nice glossy colour, but for the full on force of the colour, you need to build it slightly by adding a little product. So, you do have the option of doing a slight tint to your lips or full on colour.
Lasting Power: The product lasted about 5-6 hours on me, leaving a stain, which stayed for another 3 to 4 hours. There was very little transference of colour, which absolutely amazes me considering the colour and the glossy look. You will need to use a makeup remover or cleanser to fully take it off.
Applicator: The product is easy to apply from the applicator. It goes on smooth and evenly, no patchiness whatsoever. Since its small in length, it adds to the greater precision.
