This is my first product from this luxury brand. YSL is a French brand and they recently launched their Tatouage Couture collection. These are 18 shades and I picked up the shade “Carmine Statement”. Their other classic YSL engraved lippes are very famous and too irresistible, but I never picked up any. Reason being they are oil-based and not matte. I try to stay away from glosses and oily lipsticks, ever since matte revolution has swept into the markets. Youtube bloggers tempted me to invest my money on this and well I did! Let’s see if it was worth the splurge.

My Experience with YSL Tatouage Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain 10 Carmin Statement:
When people say, what you will get from spending so much, when a lower price product gives you the same shade/finish or anything else, well this lip stain is an answer to that! No offence to any drug store or lower priced brands, it’s just I feel luxury brand may put a dent in your pocket, but what it delivers and claims is a bang on and not 1% questionable. And so, is this lippie.
Packaging is not very expensive or sturdy, but still oozing with luxury. It’s a simple plain golden cardboard box with YSL and minimal details engraved on it like brand name, ingredients and shade name. The bottle is like a liquid lipstick, square in shape with a golden cap. The interesting part is the application wand. It is a flat rectangular shape applicator with an angle inclination on top. This is very different from the usual doe foot applicator. This kind of shape lets us to draw a sharp line on the edges.
The consistency is very liquid, but the effect is opaque. As the website says, it has ink-like texture and if you can see the first and major ingredient is water. It spreads evenly on the lips in one swipe. Maximum you will have to dip twice to get that 100% opaque color. I can never call it a lip stain, because it is as good as a liquid lipstick or even better.
It has a sweet fragrance which stays for a very short time and it is not an issue for me. This does not accentuate fine lines on the lips, in fact makes the lips look better and smoother! It is very light and spreads like water actually. Stays for good 8 hours and fades evenly. Does not transfer or bleed. Sits comfortably on lips and make the look smooth, soft and gorgeous.
The shade I picked is “Carmine Statement” which is such a beautiful red. Contrary to ruby woo or Russian red, this is a red with warm undertones. Warm undertones or orangey reds do not suit me, but this one is an exception because, I love it on myself.
