Yves Rocher Waterproof Eye Pencil

Today, I will be reviewing one of the most often used and popular make up products, the quintessential black eye liner (pencil) and the one I am reviewing is the Yves Rocher Black Waterproof Eyeliner, which according to me is one of the better ones available amongst drug store brands today.

I started using kajal in school and have never stopped since then.  I have tried a number of brands and variations, and can vouch for just two of them, one being a Streetwear pencil that I am unable to find any more, and the other would be this.

It is a black plastic tube encased roll-up (swivel type) pencil, similar in packaging to the Maybelline Colossal kajal, with a silver script on it that mentions the brand, the quantity : 0.3 g/ 0.01 oz., and that it is made in Italy.  It also has a built-in sharpener in its back end cap, which I never really needed to use at all.

On the website, the price is quoted at 12$, reduced to 7$ as it is their best seller. I however bought it for somewhere between 250-300 INR from an airport.  Its availability in general stores might be an issue as I have not been able to find it for the past few weeks.

Product Description:

  • Waterproof Eye Pencil.  Intense color, ultra-comfort.  Eye Pencil – Rich in waterproof color.  Its soft, protective, Chamomile extract-enriched texture offers a gliding application as it emphasizes the look of ultra-intense color.  Creamy and comfortable, it goes on evenly and blends easily.  Its waterproof formula guarantees a flawless, long-lasting look.  Available in bold and trendy colors, from classic matte black to flashy iridescent turquoise.  Finally, graphic makeup that dares to look intense and radiant!

The Plus:

  • Its built-in sharpener to ensure an ultra-precise line every time.
  • Its super practical, retractable tip.
  • Tested under dermatological and ophthalmological supervision.
  • 0.01 oz. Pencil / 0.3 g

My Take on Yves Rocher Waterproof Eye Pencil:

This was a brand I had never heard of before, and buying it was a lucky accident. I bought it from the T3 terminal lounge when I realized that I had forgotten my eye pencils back home on my way to Goa and found out that the lounge shop had no other options available.  I couldn’t do without an eye pencil and so I bought it.  I immediately went to the wash room to try it on (yes I had time to kill :P) and whoa., it was such a pleasure to use it and then to see how it looked. The words that I could immediately associate with it were, smooth, glides like a dream texture, black, highly pigmented colour, and amazing definition, fine sharp lines. I went on with my journey without holding any expectations as such and lo and behold, the product did not budge from its place, the pigment did not fade at all, and there was no irritation in my eyes despite being a contact lens wearer, and I am talking about hours after application, with a couple of naps thrown in between.

Maybelline Colossal Kajal

This is when I knew it was a keeper. I used it every day on the trip, got water in my eyes, but it did not bleed, it did not disappoint. However, I didn’t realise the real worth of this product till I came back from the trip and used my regular colossal kajal one day. It felt like such a dud. Colossal was relatively duller, less defined, coarse, had to be rubbed to be applied, and much less resistant to smudging. Everything that colossal advertises itself is what this Yves Rocher pencil is actually like. Mine is about over now, and I have loved using it.

Swatch 3

The one swiped above is the Yves Rocher and the below one is Maybelline Colossal Kajal. It might appear darker but if you look closely, you’ll realise that the product has crumbled and that is the only reason it appears to be darker. Also, on smudging once, the percentage of the product that gets smudged is noticeably different and thirdly, after a thorough wash with water, Yves Rocher seems to be able to survive the rubbing.

If you think you want to try a new product that betters Colossal Kajal by 5 times for twice its price, then this product is for you!

Pros of Yves Rocher Waterproof Eye Pencil:

  • Highly pigmented, dark black colour.
  • Glides smooth without tugging/rubbing.
  • Well defined edges and sharper, finer lines possible.
  • Does not fade/smudge with time.
  • Waterproof.
  • Sharpener attached.
  • Available in many other colours.

Cons of Yves Rocher Waterproof Eye Pencil:

  • None for the product.
  • Availability variable, cost subjective.

IMBB Rating:

Easily 4/5 (one point deducted for the above-mentioned points).
