Yves Saint Laurent Ombres 5 Lumieres # 3 Tawny Review

The product I am going to review about is

Yves Saint Laurent Ombres 5 Lumieres – 5 Colour Harmony for Eyes

Yves Saint Laurent Ombres 5 Lumieres - 5 Colour Harmony for Eyes

Bought this on my Christmas outing to the shoppers stop @ rajouri garden.

This is what the YSL official site says about the product

A five-color harmony of richly pigmented eyeshadows. Four matt, satiny or iridescent eyeshadow shades coordinated around a single colour theme can be applied alone or mixed together freely for subtle tone-on-tone looks.

A new interpretation of the Yves Saint Laurent palette. Four matt, satiny or iridescent eyeshadow shades coordinated around a single colour theme can be applied alone or mixed together freely for subtle tone-on-tone looks. Create your own desired look and intensity. The highlighter is the magic touch, to lighten and widen the look instantly, while the deepest color is used to structure and define the eyes.
The five shades can be combined in twos or threes, or stand alone for a powerful monochrome effect. This color palette features two foam applicators: a thin one for defining the lash line, and a broader one for shading and blending

YSL eyeshadow ingredients
YSL 5 Colour Harmony For Eyes are available in 9 different shades:

  1. #1 Sahara
  2. #2 Indian Pink
  3. #3 Tawny
  4. #4 Lilac sky
  5. #5 Riviera
  6. #6 Garden of Eden
  7. #7 Bronze Gold
  8. #8 Midnight
  9. # 9 Parisian Sky

The one that I am going to review about is “TAWNY”
Shades include: shimmering golden orange, shimmering ivory, shimmering peach, shimmering gold, and shimmering chocolate brown

YSL 5 Colour Harmony For Eyes come in beautiful, typical gold YSL packaging. There’s a mirror on the inner side of it which is quite big and useful. The product has beautiful colors and the pigments of the darker shades are strong, so you can use just a little bit of the product each time. These colors are well coordinated you can blend them together or use them individually & are appropriate for both day and evening wear. The colours are very blendable and highly pigmented so a little goes a long way. The color stays true all day without fading or creasing.

Now, coming to the pros and cons of the product

PROS of Yves Saint Laurent Ombres 5 Lumieres – 5 Colour Harmony for Eyes

  • All the colours included are “THE most useful” colours as eye shadows and will go well with most of our dresses. These five shadows create endless possibilities or can be used alone too.
  • The texture feels incredibly silky and blends easily.
  • The colours are highly pigmented that lasts all day

CONS of Yves Saint Laurent Ombres 5 Lumieres – 5 Colour Harmony for Eyes

  • Though I like the colors, I think they’re highly overpriced .For the price they just didn’t have very good color payoff, in my opinion. The colors do look intense in the packaging but when applied – nothing like that. it requires to re-apply the shade for about 3 times if you want some decent color on the eyelid. Since this is YSL and it’s a high-end brand I’d really expect more pigmented colors, at least to justify the high price
  • The texture of the eyeshadows is somehow silky when touched, but on my skin they look quite chalky which I didn’t like at all. I could have got creamy eye shadows at this price 🙁
  • @ the price(costed me Rs.3200) one can easily find a whole palette of colours.

In general, the eyeshadows are pretty and nice, but for that price I do expect much, MUCH more and I think that YSL could do better than this, that’s for sure.

  1. Hii Noopur….totally agree with the negatives listed. I found the shadows really overpriced for so faint when I tried to swatch it! I loved most of the shades in these and would have bought them if not for these faults…You should try a darker base…like a smudged kohl pencil…and then use these over that. It brings out the colour better.

        1. Goooooooooood morning Radssssssss :skywalker: :skywalker: :skywalker: :skywalker: …I know it is not dark!! :P..he he…thats why…I was suggesting your recommendation of using it as base for other “non color pay off” shadows!!

        2. And Noopur, I meant it seriously…use a dark kohl base smudged over your eyelids and then use these colours…it will look much better! Since you have already bought this might as well find a way to make it work na 😀 I wanted to get the green-based one in this..I don’t know the name…it looked so unimpressive but I saw it on the SAs eyes (and she had used a kohl base) and it looked amazing 🙂

        1. I never used eye makeup when I was in Germany!! :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep: ..I feel Urban decay should be good and affordable na?….As per the reviews..and ofcourse your fav mac paintpot!! 😀 😀

          1. Urban Decay is a higher end brand… It’s not an affordable brand at all…I think people buy it because it’s a necessity. And Mrunmayee toh didnt like UD base at all. It gets chalky on some people.

Anyway I think what radhika mentioned is right…as strong kohl base always works to make the eye shadows more intense. 🙂

    1. will giv dat a shot radhika…thnkx for enlightning me..m kinda new to all this…learning a lot frm u all u beautiful girls in here 🙂

      1. I didn’t know it either Noopur, but that’s what the SA told me when I asked her…she said they are meant to be used that way – or something like that…don’t know if its true that they are “meant to be used that way” but it did make sense to me 😀

        1. in the second swatch the colours look really pretty Noopur.. 🙂 do try out Radhika’s suggestion.. cause i am sure it’ll work out beautifully.. have done it myself.. and a MUA for my cousins wedding did it on another cousin :P.. i really liked the outcome.. 😀 all the best!:D

    1. Oh..err..me go see! Hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…you are fast! Loved the pics am going to make it tooooooooooooooooooo…it seems so simple :-* :-* :-* :eat: :eat: :eat: :eat: :eat: :eat: :eat: :eat: :eat: :eat:

  2. I am going to but YSL lipstick but not the eyeshadow or glosses. The glosses look very flat and at a similar price you can get good stuff with Dior or Chanel. I love the colours in the palettes however. Neutrals

good review and welcome To IMBB :))

  3. 3200!!!! :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: :tremble: 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 ok!!! it’s totally out of my league… but am still curious bout the Indian Pink palette 😛
Am sorry it didnt work for you Noopur 🙁

  4. Lovely shadessssssss..and sooo pigmented!!!!!!!! :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: ….Very nice review Noopur!!!

      1. hi cali,
well the first swatch ws a casual one i did on my hand with just fingertips…
but since the pic didnt came out well, i went all the way to my local salon- got my self waxed(its winter n m kinda laid back :P) moisturised my arms properly , asked thr make up artist to swatch thm properly with a brush n a 3rd guy took the pic… the pic came well coz of d salon lights 😛
i was super excited for my 1st review u see :victory2:

        1. 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 you did so much to just get the swatches perfectly?????? :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: hats off!! :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: :jaiho: ….

        1. caliiiiii … hellloooo :yelo: :yelo: :yelo: :yelo: … u takin panga with rads :violinbash: :violinbash: :violinbash: :violinbash: :violinbash: …
          wait i ll get a tub of popcorn and watch … 😆 😆 :jiggy1: :jiggy1: :jiggy2:

        2. I don’t blame Radhika. Chanel Splash is actually super gorgeous that it cna be used as a base and can make any stoopid eyeshadows also look pretty :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

      1. 3200 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯 mein we can bet wayyy better stuff noo ??? ?:) ?:) ?:) i like the shades but the 3200 part forces me not to like them … :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank:

  5. Hi Nainaaaaaaa…. 😀 😀 …..actually you can’t expect higher end brands and luxury brands to give these stuffs at lower prizes..   ..Their task is to make us feel better by spending more on them!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

    1. hmmmmmm……. u r right but what i meant was u can get a whole inglot ka pallette for the same or a slightly higher price.. and its wayy better than these… if they charge they should deliver also … cos noopur said naa ki they look chalky and colour payoff isnt good … ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) ?:) 😐 😐 😐

    1. hello gia, the SA told us its a ltd edition thing n d last pc he had. this made dis girl standing next to me, want it sooo badly..we cud hav ended up cat fighting :duel: but he assured that he can arrange another in 3-4 days… peace…….. O:)

  6. noopur, this is one quad i have always lusted after but never purchased. but don’t your last pro and first con contradict each other?
either way, i think it’s better to invest in either mac or inglot which are known for their quality eyeshadows. this just isn’t ysl’s forte.

  7. hello rima, i wont justify as i am kinda new to all dis blogging n reviewing… all i meant is the colours should have been more pigmented just on the first application and shouldnt require re applying lik 2-3 times. thr staying power is decent though.. hope i make sense n fyn sync (if i dont just let me knw ur mailing adress, i ll send over some of my hand made chocolatess) 😛 :victory2: :vampire:
