Kama Ayurveda Patchouli Shampoo and Conditioner Review

Hi Everyone,

Today I am reviewing the Kama Patchouli Shampoo and Conditioner. I have used many sample bottles of this shampoo in last few months. Finally I have the full size bottles now. So I thought I’d review them. 🙂

Price : Rs 425 for 200ml

My Experience:

The first thing that got me a bit worried about this shampoo is the ingredients list. Isn’t it supposed to be all Ayurvedic. SLES, parabens and lots of chemicals dominate the list. There is good stuff such as lavender patchouli oil blend, neem and hibiscus extract.  But after using this shampoo on and off for months, I would say that I have had absolutely no issues with this shampoo.

  • The shampoo is really mild. It does not feel as if it is tripping off moisture from your hair.
  • The fragrance is mild lavender(y).. very soothing.
  • It leaves the scalp super clean. You have to use quite a lot of product when you have oiled your hair but the shampoo does its job well. Also it rinses of easily without leaving any residue behind.
  • I have had no hair-fall problem with this one.
  • It does not weigh down my hair, not does it make my hair frizzy or unmanageable.
  • The shampoo has a runny consistency and it lathers well.
  • I would say that it does hold true to its claim of calming the scalp. My head feels really light after using this.
  • Lavender and Patchouli have anti bacterial and antiseptic properties so if you have itchy scalp, this shampoo might help you.

Overall, a good everyday shampoo. It is much better than the many shampoos around because of the presence of some natural ingredients. This shampoo I believe would be suitable for all hair types because neither does it add moisture nor does it strip off hair of any moisture. It does its job well at cleaning the hair and scalp.

Rating : 4/5

Both the shampoo and conditioner come in clear bottles. With the wide mouth, you just have to be careful about how much product comes out but they are very functional.

My Experience :

For the conditioner, I did a bit of research on the ingredients. Acc to this article, Amodimethicone protects from thermal damage resulting from styling tools, such as hot rollers, curling irons, and blow dryers. Cetrimonium Chloride is an antiseptic. Cetyl alcohol can help to condition the hair. So this conditioner is not completely Ayurvedic or made from natural ingredients but it’s not bad at all if you are ready to ignore the parabens (which are pretty much present in almost every beauty product).

For me this conditioner works fine.

  • It conditions my hair but it does not add a boost of moisture to my dry hair. It just makes my hair soft and manageable.
  • It smells pretty much the same as the shampoo – relaxing lavender(y)
  • it does not weigh down my hair.
  • it rises off completely without using tons of water and leaves no residue behind.
  • the consistency is light creamy.

Again, overall good but my hair could do with more moisture.

The fragrance is very mild so I can smell light smell from my hair for a day but it does not linger after that.

I would say that these are my second favourite shampoo and conditioner after L’occitane. I always like to switch between two kinds of shampoos and a conditioner duo.  This duo definitely makes my hair look nicer. Through out the Neemrana trip I have used this duo every single day. And you would notice that my hair looked pretty good throughout. This Kama shampoo & Conditioner duo is nicer than the Forest Essentials Rose Absolute range that I have used in past. That was nice but this is ‘much’ nicer. This suits my hair more. 🙂
