  1. Ok! So my first query is related to my daily office make up. I don’t feel very comfortable applying foundation every day, while going to work. Is it possible to get a nice, glowing and smooth skin that stays for longer duration, without putting on foundation?

    1. Try using just a concealer and a tinted moisturizer. Day Wear Plus Tinted moisturizer is my favorite cause it’s one shade fits all and comes off at night… Also try doing your makeup in a room different than the bathroom.. Different light will help you apply makeup more naturally..
      tx!

  2. Hi Blair,
What do you think about the Indian skin tone?
And could you tell us what shades would complement the Indian skin tone when it comes to eye shadows ?

    1. Hi Smita, this is a great question! Cool tones will compliment the Indian skin tone because of the contrast of your skin color. Try aquas, greens, blue, purples for a dramatic effect. Try berries, plums and deep pink for a more natural look!

  3. Aarti,
Thank you for the question. Its one that I get often. The best thing you can do for dark circles is start with a good eye cream. Moisturizing the eye area will help free up the traped blood under the surface of the skin that causes the circles.
Follow with a concealer that has a pearl pigment or a light amount of shimmer to reflect light off the surface of the area… Try Ideal Light Concealer, It’s one of my Fav’s!

  4. Hi..my question: I am very new to eye makeup – eyeshadows – specifically, am dark/dusky coloured, and was wondering what colours should I pick up for myself. I have been sticking very safely to browns/khaki up until now 🙂

    1. Blues and purples are hot for the season, if these are colors that scare you ask to look at the Estee Lauder Blue Dahlia eye pallette. The pallette is mlti functional in that you can get a light look and a deep smokey look.

    1. Smokey Eyes are in and will be for a while.. I get this question a lot and the best way to achieve a smokey eye is to start with a good dark base on the eye lid.
Try the Double Wear eye liner in Onyx and smudge it all over your eye lid from the lashes to the contour. Next follow with your dark smokey eyeshadow of choice.. (Black Crystals Pure Color Eye Shadow launches in November) works great for this. Layer the shadow on top of the eye liner base and be sure to not go above the contour line. Then run a brush back and forth in the contour itself to blend.
Follow with a black mascara on top and bottom and you will get the effect!

  5. Hello Mr Blair,

Firstly Congratulations on being so talented and famous and making all you high school friends jealous *every single person that have been to school’s dream i must tell you* :rose: :nerd:

    Secondly my question:

If you had to give me a piece of beauty/makeup advice, what would it be?

    xox
    deb O:-)

    1. Thanks for the warm wishes! For a general makeup tip try an application called French Eyelining. Start by choosing an eyeliner that contrasts with an eye color (if you have brown eye choose blue and if you have blue eyes choose brown). Run the liner underneath and in between the lashes and not on top of the eyelid. Smudge the color and follow with a mascara in either brown or black. This technique will give a volumizing effect to the lashes while forcing your eye color to stand out and be the focal point.

  6. My big question is: How does one achieve flawless skin and make up in a super hot and super humid climate like Chennai? What must I keep in mind when I apply my foundation etc? (I have oily skin)

    1. Try the Double Wear Foundation… Its a long wearing foundation that will give you all the coverage you need without the heavy feel… I use this product on video shoots all the time and its ALWAYS looks flawless!

  7. Hi again Blair,
Could you also tell us your views about mineral make up versus regular make up ? What are the pros and cons of each. Which would you suggest to people, and why ?

    1. Hi Smita,
Mineral makeup is really something that has come a long way in a minimal amount of time. The benefits are its better for your skin, it allows your skin to breathe more and it feels lighter. Additionally due to the ingredients used in mineral makeup it sometimes easier to find your exact shade. Some of the downfalls of the product are your not going to get the same coverage as a regular foundation and its not going to last as long on the skin. So if its an office environment that your wearing it in its fine but i wouldn’t recommend to use it for a night out.

  8. Hello Mr.Blair,

What kind of daily wear makeup and skincare routine would you suggest for a city like Mumbai which has humid climate ?

Also any tips and tricks to look fresh with all the humidity around ?

    Thanks

    1. HD,
I would recommend a light moisturizer like Day Wear Plus spf 15 and a lightweight but long wearing foundation like Double Wear Light. This is a great foundation for a humid climate or the gym… Try touching up with a translucent loose powder as well as it will soak up more oil and moisture than a pressed powder…

    1. Aarthi,

Here is a list of my top FAV 10.
      1. Double Wear Light Foundation
      2. Ideal light Concealer
      3. Bronze Goddess Bronzer
      4. Day Wear Plus Tinted Moisturizer
      5. Double Wear Eye Liners (all colors)
      6. Tirimisu Pure Color Lipstick
      7. Passion Fruit Pure Color Lipstick
      8. Advanced Night Repair Serum
      9. Blue Dahlia Eye Shadow Palette
      10. Sumptuous Mascara in Black

  9. Hi Mr Patterson,
Question: Can you please tell me how can i make my lipstick or gloss to stay for longer. Even the long wearing lipsticks stay on me for max an hour…Thanks

    1. Hi Jas, start with the base of Double Wear concealer all over the lip, just a small amount. Line and fill in the lip with your lip liner and then powder. Use your lipstick and this should last for at least four hours. For extra extra long wear powder the lipstick and reapply. I hope this helps.

  10. I would recommend a light moisturizer like Day Wear Plus spf 15 and a lightweight but long wearing foundation like Double Wear Light. This is a great foundation for a humid climate or the gym… Try touching up with a translucent loose powder as well as it will soak up more oil and moisture than a pressed powder

  11. Hi Mr Blair,

Thank you for this session. :rose:

I want to know your opinion about the lip liner . Does it make any difference to the way your lips look of you apply a lip liner or only lipstick can do the job?

    1. Hi Smitha, lip liner can not only help you get clean edges of the overall effect of lipstick but keeps the product from bleeding and wearing off.

  12. Hi Blair,
Do you think there is something as ‘over doing your makeup’ ? If yes , How do we know and avoid over-doing make up ?

    1. I would recommend focusing in one feature and promoting it. In your opinion, if eyes are your best feature then do them up with a minimal nude lip. If you love your smile then find a red that you feel comfortable wearing and make your lashes stand out…. The worst thing you can do is highlight all your features as people won’t know what to concentrate on and you will look well overdone.

  13. Hi my query is a little general, If someone is starting with eyemakeup as a newbie what are the general rules he should keep in mind regrding face makeup or lipstick etc.

    1. Hi Mahima,

I’ll focus on the eyes, the first thing I can’t stress enough is how important brushes are. You only need a select few, most important ones are a blending brush and concealer brush.
Start by picking eyeshadows that are colors that you would normally find in your wardrobe. These are colors that you know look good on you. Use a brown versus a black mascara and the most important tip that I can give any beginner is never do your makeup in the morning. Practice your makeup at night in front of the tv with a hand held mirror. This is the best way to experiment and not have to worry about facing the world. Then in the morning you know what to do!

  14. Hi Mr. Blair,

May i know how to get even /complextion tone and glowing skin as few areas on my face are darker(around lips, chin) than other.

  15. Dear Sir,

I am fair skin toned and love wearing coloured eyeliners, i have brown eyes.

I usually wear blues and greens and get appreciated for the same.

however today I’m wearing a plum colour and someone asked me why I look like I’ve been run over by a speeding truck  😮

    Please help
    thank you :rose:

    1. LOLOLOL,
You need to use a base before you try these colors on. Plum tones can look like dark circles or bruises if you don’t put a base of concealer down on the eyelid before they go on. Also, make sure that you clean any eyeshadow that falls under the eye before you put concealer on!

    1. Deeptima,
I would go for Berry to purple tones with hazel eyes..
Try the Amethyst Spark Pure Color Eyeshadow (launching in Nov)

    1. Hi Shinjini, my recommendation is to try moisturizing on the neck every morning and night. Try Time Zone Line Reducing Creme.

  16. Hi mr blair,

do cream blushes or powder blushes give better effect. What is your favourite blush colour for wheatish or Indian skintones?

    1. Monica,
The blush all depends on the effect you are looking for. Try creme for nighttime glow to the skin and Matte for a soft office look. For long wearing use both starting with the creme and following with the matte color. This technique will give you a nice amount of color and stay on much longer than by themselves. I LOVE the color Pink Kiss for the skin tone you described.

  17. Hello Mr.Blair,

I have to make my wedding makeup kit. Can u please give me a list of wedding make up essentials with recommendation of brands too?
    Skin type – Acne prone
Skin Tone – Fair (Not very fair) + Black eyes

    Thanks in advance

    1. Deepti,
First off, start with a great moisturizer.. I recommend Re-Nutriv Ultimate Lifting face and eye creme at least 6 months before the wedding. The eye creme has crushed South Sea Pearls and not only helps any lines and wrinkles but is a great product to combat dark circles…..
For makeup I love Double Wear Light Foundation for weddings. Its a great light weight formulation that will cover all day and looks flawless in photos.

  18. Hello Mr.Blair,

I have to make my wedding makeup kit. Can u please give me a list of wedding make up essentials with recommendation of brands too?

    Thanks in advance 🙂

    1. Hi Deb,
Th wrong foundation color is probably one of the most common mistakes in makeup. Make sure that you ask a beauty advisor to match you foundation with our i-Match tool to ensure your correct shade based on your undertone and intensity.

  19. Hello Mr. Blair,
    I have several queries.
    1) I work outside in the heat for 1-2 hours daily. My makeup melts down just 5 mins if i stay outside. I sweat terribly specially from my forehead & the neck area, sometimes even the jawline. I use a liquid foundation & dab a little powder foundation & face powder (because of my combination skin). I avoid giving a touch with water spray as it melts down my foundation giving it a cakey look. What can i do to assure my makeup remains intact in the heat?

    2) Again because of the heat my eyeliner smudges and spreads all over. any suggestions on how to avoid that?

    3) Sometimes while highlighting i tend to highlight my left side more than the right side. Is there any way to minimize the highlighted look. I try dabbing it with a tissue paper but it spreads more. I also tried covering it up with a face powder but it tends to look way too powdery.

Would really appreciate suggestions for the above problems i face 🙂

    1. Hi Insiya,
Thank you for the question, for your first question try using the regular Double Wear Foundation in your appropriate shade, apply it with a foundation brush and blot the face immediately after with a tissue. Then apply the Double Wear Powder Foundation over the top. This technique has worked for me on photoshoots in humid climates.

      2) Try Double Wear Eyeliner, it’s long lasting and waterproof.

      3) I know this sounds funny but take a good look at the lighting you are applying your makeup in, its sounds to me like it might be brighter on one side that the other. Also trying dabbing Advanced Night Repair on top of the highlighter to give it a more natural effect.

  20. Hi Mr. Blair,

Thank u so much for this session. Its so great to have u here 🙂

    My question is..
I Have medium complexion with combination skin, But the skin around my mouth & chin is 1 shade darker than the skin on my cheeks and forehead (Not a huge difference though). what do i do to achieve an Even complexion?

    1. Beth,
Unfortunately concealers will only highlight small lines and wrinkles under the eyes… Try using an eye creme mixed into the concealer to help diffuse these lines. Advanced Night Repair is a great eye serum for this technique….

  21. Am reading all the useful tips and gonna make a note of it Mr. Blair.

Thanks for sparing your time. 🙂

My query is what kind of make up suites black eyes big foreheads

  22. Hi Mr. Blair

I have very small eyes and each time they look puffy. I like wearing eye makeup, but it does shows good in photographs. Could you suggest me the right kind of makeup for very small eyes.

could you also suggest me a good eye cream ???

    1. Priyanka,
Try the Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Eye Serum ( launching in Nov). I have been testing this product and it is a magical formulation… Try keeping it in the fridge as it will help with the swelling…
Try iridescent colors on the eyes in pearl tones and ground the look with a eye liner that is the opposite color of your eye. This will force your eye color out in the photographs and make you appear to have larger eyes.

  23. Hi Blair,

Thanks for taking some time for us ladies out here and thanks Rati for the opportunity 🙂

Well my query is about blush. I would like to know the right technique(including where on cheeks) for applying powder as well as cream blush on an oval shaped face.

    Thank you in advance 🙂

    1. Hi Poornima,
It’s great to be here with you guys today! There is only one place to apply blush and that is the apple of your cheek. To find the apple of your cheek look straight into the mirror and smile very broadly. Apply the blush to the hightest point on the cheek. Follow with a bronzer from the corner of the mouth to the corner of the ear to combat and contour the overall shape of your face.

  24. Thanks for the great tip. I will surely try it out.
Can u please help me with another thing. How can I contour my nose to make it look sharper and sleeker? Thanks for helping out..

    1. Hi Jas,
This is actually an easy answer.. Using a small eye shadow brush and a bronzer run the product down both sides of your nose before foundation. Try and make it one to two shades deeper than your skin. (if you have a very deep skin tone, try using a foundation one shade darker than the one you wear all over) Then follow with your foundation and powder over the rest of the face as usual! This should work.

  25. Hello Sir,

what is the fail safe way to choose the right shade of foundation. It is so difficult to choose the right shade. :(( Any tips?

    1. Hi Rekha, we have an excellent tool at Estee Lauder called I-Match Foundation tool that can identify your foundation color based on your undertone and intensity. This service is available at every Estee Lauder store.

  26. Hi Blair,

Sorry if the celebrity question was not clear before. I just wanted to ask what are the few celebrities that you admire for getting their ‘look’ right?

        1. LOL i was just reading an interview of Queen Rania in Readers Digest today…. !! and yeahh shes soo classy and beautiful ! Right from her hair to her clothes shes just sooo elegant.

    1. Hi Shinjini,
Yes, try to only use one liner, two shadows and a mascara during the day and either cool or warm tones but not both and then find an eyeshadow 3 – 4 shades darker to add to the contour of your eye. Then for the evening find an eyeshadow 1 – 2 shades darker and apply it to the contour of your eye for a more dramatic smokey effect, follow with a mascara and a fresh coating of lipstick and your good to go.

  27. Hi Mr Blair

In last query i forgot to tell you something about my eyes. i don’t have puffiness on the bottom of my eyes but top portion i.e my eye lids are so heavy that they always fall on my lashes and cover them , so I really need make tip for such eyes.

I will try Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Recovery Eye Serum suggested by you
    thanks

  28. We are wrapping up the session in another 5-7 minutes. Thanks a ton, Mr Blair. It was a pleasure having you here. :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose: :rose:

Guys, please don’t forget to thank Mr Blair. :))

    1. Sireesha,
I say no, but I say that from my experience in North America.. If a credited school experience is something that you need in order to get jobs in your country then I say yes. If it is not, then I would recommend you spend the money on makeup and business cards and apply for jobs… I worked for free for years till I made an income and when I finally did it paid off! It will for you too if you really want to be apart of this industry.
      Good LUCK!!!
      Blair

      1. thank you sooooooo much for your invaluable advice and wishes mr.blair.. this is my dream and i really want to be a part of this industry.. 🙂

  29. Thanks Mr. Patterson!! :rose: :rose: ..It was really an amazing session! I learned so many things from so many queries and your generous answers!! Thanks again! O:-) O:-)

      1. wow! thanks for the extra time!!
Hey Blair, first of all thanks for taking out your time and doing this for us!
and thanx Rati for arranging all of it!

        my question…
I really want to try the bright lips and nude eyes look, havent really ever pulled that off, which shades are recommended for wheatish/dusky complexions? I was thinking on the lines of hot pink? also, how do u think I should do the eyes with it?

Thanks again for all the info : )

        1. Hi Mani,
You want to combat the wheatish/dusky complexion with something more warm. I would move away from pinks and one shade deeper into berries to neturalize your natural wheat complexion. Try rimming the berry color from the lashes to the contour and follow with a black liner and black mascara to finish the look.

  30. oh crap! i missed it! 😥 i hate these power cuts! :reallyangry: i was waiting desperately to ask him my doubts about makeup artistry..i am so unlucky to miss such a good oppurtunity.. 😥

  31. Mr. Patterson would have to leave for training right now so you may post your additional questions here and he would reply to all your queries by Friday. 🙂

    1. Janhavi,
A contoured look is what you want… Try using a foundation 1 shade darker than the one you have. Dab a little under your cheek bones and blend it into the skin.. Next, use your regular foundation and cover the face. This technique will build structure and contour and make you look a lil less like a football:)

  32. yaaaayyyy! thanks a ton rati.i thought i am never going to get this oppurtunity again.now i will post all my queries and wait for the wonderful friday to arrive. :-))

  33. Hello Mr. Patterson….this is Jomol here…hope ou are doing good…..I wanted you to ask about remedies for hyperpigmented skin…..how do you get rid of hyperpigmented patches on skin….. :-)) :-)) :-)) …asking on my mom’s behalf…. :-))

    1. Jomol,
This is an issue that is a little harder to remedy…… If the issue is Hyperpigmentation than a topical cream from a Dermatologist to reduce the coloring is my recomendation.. For a less evasive product try Estee Lauder’s Cyber White Brightening Essence.. Its a very effective creme that will brighten the area enough for a regular concealer to even out the chin.
      Blair

  34. OH God…I can’t believe I missed this session….are the two hours over already :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep: 😥 😥 😥 😥 😥

  35. 😥 😥 😥 😥 I missed it..

But I do want to thank Mr. Blair for taking out precious time for us IMBB girls.. A big thank you!! :rose: :rose: :rose:

Also the French eyelining tip is Pure Gold!!

      1. To be honest, most of my queries were the same as above!! And I really have nothing to say except thanks!! :-)) :-))

  36. Hi Mr.Blair,

Thanks for taking time to clear our doubts about makeup.

    I have a question,
If one has Dark circles under the eyes, does Wearing black Kohl on the waterline or lower lash line attracts the attension to the Dark circles? How about wearing a coloured eye shadow or colored kohl on the lower lash line.

    Thanks.

    1. Hi Padmini,
First and foremost I would recommend an eye cream with a brightening agent such as Re-Nutriv Ultimate Eye Cream. This product combined with Re-Nutriv Concealing Duo should be more that enough to combat the dark circles but be warned this is a short term answer to your question. For the long term reduction of dark circles use this cream AM and PM 15 minutes before sleep right after you wake up.

  37. hello mr.blair,
i want to become a makeup artist.i live in a very small town right now and my parents are not allowing me to go to city(bangalore) to attend a makeup school.. so, i learnt a ton of things about professional makeup on youtube and gathered a lot of information from various sites on the internet and practised at home. i am very confident about my skills now and want to start my work as a freelance makeup artist for now.but i am in a huge dilemma! is it mandatory to attend a makeup school and get a certificate to get work? please help me out.thank you.

    1. Neha,
If it’s in you it’s IN you and you will do it.. For ideas on how to start please refer to Sireesha’s Q&A above..
Best of luck and hope to see you at Fashion Week!!

  38. Hi Mr. BLAIR,
I need guidance for my skin care regime, as my skin type is a bit queer. I have sensitive+dry+acne prone skin 🙁
also, will mineral makeup work well for me?
    thanks
    noopur

    1. Hi Noopur, the advancement of mineral makeup over the last 5 years alone has been amazing to be apart of. We use only ingredients that are packed with anti-oxidants such as pomegranate to ensure healthy skin. Tomorrow night do an extensive exfoliation process and if possible go makeup-less for 24 hours. Then follow with a light moisturizer with some Advanced Night Repair and then the mineral power makeup. Your skin should react to the new balance you provided it but if it does not please seek the answers of a dermotologist. Blair

  39. hi mr blair i have skin related queries can i ask ???? 😀 i have black spot on my legs i cant wear shorts i feel so 🙁 please if u could solve this big problem of mine n i m startin to get very dry skin . :-/

    1. Lily, this seems more of a dermatologist related question to me…. Please seek help and sorry I can’t answer you further:(
      Blair

  40. Hi Mr. Blair,
Thank u so much for this session. 🙂 It is great to have u here …actually Sugnya has already asked this question but i think u have missed it..and haven’t replied so i’ll ask again..the same question bcoz i m suffering from the same issue..
    My question is..
I have wheatish complexion with combination skin, But the skin around my mouth & chin is 1 shade darker than the skin on my cheeks and forehead 🙁 . what do i do to achieve an Even complexion?
thanks in advance…(and plzzzzzzzzzzzzz do reply this question) :waiting:
    take care.. 🙂

    1. Dear Anshu, this is a question i’ve gotten quite a bit during this session and is one I am realizing more and more is an issue for Indian women. If a dermotologist is not something that is readily available then like the answer to Jomol above I would recommend Estee Lauder Cyberwhite range.

  41. Hi rati..
just now i have sent my query….i hope Mr Blair will reply..
i cudn’t attend the session bcoz i had to go to attend Parents teacher meeting…my son’s LKG result is out…he scored A+ :victory: …yipeeeee…

    1. I’m really flattered Poornima, i’ve throughly enjoyed this blogging session! Glad that you’ve got some good tips out of it. 🙂

  42. Hello Mr. Blair,

I love red lipstick, but I always feel super self conscious while wearing them. I also have difficulty in choosing the right red. My questions are –

    1) Can you suggest any tips for me to ease my way into wearing reds?
    2) There are countless tips out there on choosing the right red – cool skin tones should use blue based reds etc, but I always find that these tips don’t help me (I have a warm skin tone, but warmer reds look AWFUL on me). Can you suggest any tips on how to choose the right?

Lastly, thank you for taking the time out to answer all our questions 🙂

    1. Phookie,
Rule of thumbs with reds are two fold..
      1. If it makes your teeth look whiter BUY IT!!
      2. Stop using lip liner… apply a small amount of gloss first to prep the lip and then follow with you new red lipstick. The gloss will help the red to settle in without looking too dramatic….
      -Blair

  43. Hello Mr. Blair,
Please recommend a good oil free foundation for oily skin with enlarged pores and spots.I m still looking for the perfect foundation for my skin.thanks for your valuable inputs.

    1. Dear Anupam,
Makeup is not going to cover issues with skin forever. I’ve said and I will always say the best makeup is created on the best skin. Try a night time regiment of Estee Lauder’s Idealist Pore Minimizing Serum, and a light moisturizer to even the skintone. In the morning when you apply your foundation, use a brush and pat a foundation into-onto the skin versus sweeping the foundation across the face. Follow with a light powder and you should be good to go.

  44. hi mr blair
i missed the live session with you….but here’s my query….hoping an answer fr it by friday….

i m a 30 yr old dentist…..having combination, fair skin.my profession demands me to be neat and fresh looking all the time….but the problem is….

1.as soon as i wear face mask ,my entire lipstick gets transferred to it…..cant wear glosses fr same reason….

2.coz i have to wash my hands frequently….nail paints dont stay and hands always look dry…

3.kajal doesnt stay coz i wear lenses and my eyes are always teary…..
4.heavy makeup doesnt suit my professsion……
    5.face gets oily within 30 min….

and plz suggest a nice tinted moisturiser, night cream and most flatering lip shade and blush shade and 5 min makeup trick fr me as i m always in hurry………..

    i knw its a long question and i m late..but i m still hoping fr the answer…
    thx a lot

    1. Shilpa.
Thank you for the very thought out question! To be hinest you sound like a perfect canidate for our Double Wear Makeup line.
      1. Try the Double Wear long lasting Lipstick without gloss. The more matte the more staying power!
2.I unfortunately don’t do nails and don’t have any advice in this category.☹
      3. Try the Double Wear eye liner. It comes in Black as weel as a variety of colors and is water and smudge proof. Oce it goes on it wont come off till you take it off.
      4. The Double Wear Foundation is a stay in place makeup that will help minimize oiliness.. Keep the the pressed powder in your purse for light touchups through out the day.
      5. I love Day Wear Plus Tinted Moisturizer. I my slef have used it every day for 8 years. It’s a light wright formulation that comes off at night with water so it doesn’t stain the skin.

Hope this helped and good luck!
      -Blair

      1. thx a lot mr blair…….
i really appreciate u took out time to answer my query………..u have been of great help………

  45. I had a lovely time reading these answers 🙂 thank you mr blair for making it such a great day here!

now for my question – what is the best makeup for super sensitive skin? 🙂

    1. Ki,
I would have to say that mineral makeup is the best. The antioxidant formulation is good for the skin, gives great coverage, blends beautifly and will last a very long time..

  46. Hi Mr.Blaire 😀
    Welcome to IMBB 🙂 🙂
Okay, so my question is :
I have oily skin but i want to achieve a dewy look with a glow on my face 🙂
    What do i do ?
Everything i use, makes my skin more oily.
Can you suggest me some products that can give me that everyday dewy look?
    🙂
    Thank you

    1. Giasaysthat,

I would recomened the Double Wear Light foundation and a light poswed and add a Little bit of Advanced night Repair just on the top of your cheek bones. This is a heavier foundation formulation will help protect against the oiliness and the Advanced Night Repair will give a glow and set the foundation n place.

  48. Hi Blair…I have really enjoyed reading all the Q & A here & thanks so much for your time & help. I have very oily skin and lots of enlarged pores. What type of skincare would you recommend to improve this? I also have very fair, pinkish colour skin on my face, while my neck has yellowish undertones, and hence my face always looks fairer than my neck, so what kind of make up should I use to even this out & make it look balanced? Thanks a lot in advance!

    1. Sabrina,
For the pores I would recommend the Idealist serum. This product is meant to be used with a moisturizer and helps minimize the appearance of pores while making the skin super soft. As far as the foundation question is concerned it’s hard for me to recommend the appropriate color with out seeing you face to face. I would say to go to an Estee Lauder counter and have a Beauty Advisor match you with our iMatch Foundation system. This is a revolutionary tool that ensures the perfect undertone and intensity for every one of our customers..
      Cheers,
      Blair

  49. I was having troubles accessing the site yesterday and missed this session 🙁
I enjoyed reading all the questions and answers though! All the questions I had were answered too 🙂
Thank you Mr. Patterson, Rati and all IMBB users for the experience. :beauty:
I am looking forward to more of these in the future (sorry, I’m just too greedy :giggle: )

  50. Wow. Great questions and great answers. Will take my sweet time to read everything. Although I cant seem to ask any questions now..drawing a blank head..besides so many good questions have already been asked 🙂

  51. Just one more question for Mr. Blair,

I have warm toned skin which has a naturally yellow-ish tinge to it. I am extremely fond of using coloured eyeliner or eye pencils. But whenever I use blue or green, my skin looks really tired and dull. When I use purple, my complexion is ‘lifted’ and I look fresh. Any idea why this happens? And I really love blues & greens – so how can I continue to wear them?

    Thanks in advance 🙂

    1. Poohkie,
If you know that certain colors look better than others I would recommend to keep exploring this range. If you just can’t live without the blues and greens just make sure you use a good base on your eye lid so the eyeshadow can really blend and stand out. I find that the Double Wear concealer works best for this trick!!
      Good Luck!
      Blair

  52. This is awesome! Most of the stuff that I wanted to ask are already up there. Thanks to Mr.Patterson for taking time out and replying to all our queries and to Rati for organizing this wonderful session 🙂

  53. My pet peeve is racoon eyes! I use an eye primer on my lids and under my eyes, followed by concealer and waterproof eye pencil to tightline my eyes and finish with some translucent powder under my eyes. Yet after an hour my concealer is in my creases and my eye pencil is smeared under my eyes. I have experimented with different brands to no avail. Any suggestions?

    1. Mandy,
That is an annoying problem and I sympathize! Have you tried the Double Wear Eyeliners? I know that I have been talking a lot about them on this blog but they seem to be the answer to a lot of the questions asked due to their LOOOONG lasting ingredients.. If this doesn’t work for you think of two things.
      1. It sounds like you are using a lot of prep products that might be obstructing the color from adhering to your eyes. try using just 1 concealer, 1 liner and a waterproof mascara. If they colors are still bleeding maybe its something else you are using on your eyes? Eye drops, too much eye creme, rubbing eyes at work?
      Let me know what happens..
      Blair

  54. HI BLAIR,
How r u. i am an indian girl with a problem of hyperpigmentation.pls.suggest me something simple which give me a clean ,glowy and sophasticated look with bare minimum make up.also suggest me how to do that make up ,because i don’t know anything about make up.waiting for ur feedback.
    ?:-)

    1. Lilly,
This is an issue that is a little harder to remedy…… If the issue is Hyperpigmentation than a topical cream from a Dermatologist to reduce the coloring is my recomendation.. For a less evasive product try Estee Lauder’s Cyber White Brightening Essence.. Its a very effective creme that will brighten the area enough for a regular concealer to even out the skin. I would DEF follow with the Nutritionist Mineral powder makeup for a soft glowing effect!
      Blair

  55. Hey Mr. Patterson, I find it really hard to get foundations that match my indian skintone. Do you have any tips? For reference, a MAC lady told me I was NW35 so how can I translate that to other brands (high end and drug store)?
    Thanks a lot!

    1. BMK,
Answering foundation matching questions is hard for me to recommend with out seeing your skin tone face to face. I would say to go to an Estee Lauder counter and have a Beauty Advisor match you with our iMatch Foundation System. This is a revolutionary tool that ensures the perfect undertone and intensity for every one of our customers..

  56. Hi Blair, thank you for all the useful tips.

My neck is lighter in shade than my face (Mac NC25), what to do to achieve a uniform shade between the two?

    Thank you, Rati!

    1. lili,
This is going to sound odd but I would try and get a little sun and play around with different SPF’s. Try an SPF 30 on your face and an SPF 10 on your neck. I think your problem is that you are using a moisturizer with an SPF on your face and not your neck which is causing the color difference..
      Blair

  57. Mr. Blair,

U have not answered my queries….. how to get super soft, glowing and even skin tone- please recommend some cream/lotion)& how to get rid of dark skin in certain parts of face & neck?

    1. Tina,
For soft even skin I wpuld recommend a skin care regiment that has a skin conditioner like Idealist and a moisturizer (which a beauty adviser would have to do in order to address any skin concerns you might have). As far as the pigmentation question, I have gotten a lot of these and this is what I recommend……

  58. hi Mr. Blair i need some skin care related advice..i have oily skin and i am prone to numerous bumps on my face and enlarged pores!!the bumps look like rashes and i have no idea what triggered this!!i used to get pimples before but right now its all bumpy!!!can you suggest any skin care routine and any cure for it??would be of great help!!

    1. Sree,
Try using a foaming cleanser to aerate the poor and clean all the dirt, oil and makeup out of it. I think the healing properties in Advanced Night Repair will help even the skin and follow with a light moisturizer.. (a beauty advisor can recommend which is best for you after a skin care consultation) but if the problem persists, seek the advice of a Dermatologist. Some people’s skin and PH balance just don’t respond to over the counter remedies and creme’s. You might need something a lil more potent..
      Blair

      1. thanks a lot Mr. Blair!!!i’ll surely try out the tips!!it was wonderful to have you with us!!!thanks once again and thank you Rati for organising this for all of us!!

    1. Rati,
Great question… I would say its not so much the formulation thats causing the “caked” effect but the application. I say to get a foundation and powder brush and play with layering.. Use a little foundation and blend, then use a little powder, them a little more foundation and so on till you get the desired coverage.. This techniques helps the products ‘play’ a little nicer with each other on the skin and help them to look like skin and not a mask of makeup.

  59. hello Mr. Blair, i have been experimenting a lot with different brands of foundation since last 6yrs but cudn’t find suitable one which can give me no make-up look. I have oily skin with large pores and many dry patches on my cheeks & lip corners. I apply lots of moisturiser specially on cheeks but after applying foundation, dry patch appears all over again plus creates a white layer on my face. I scrub my facial skin daily with a mild scrub gel but dry skin flakes do appear after applying foundation. may be am not able to select suitable product. plz help. :-(( :-(( :-((

    1. Gul,
Thank you for all the questions. I am going to answer them in order but unfortunately, for the first question you have tried all my recommendations. It sounds like you have some severe pattern dryness that a Dermatologist will need to address. They will be able to help you even out the skin and calm down the dryness.
      2. Buy or use a foundation thats 1 shade darker than your skin and start experimenting with contouring your face. Use a lil on the temples and under the cheeks and then follow with your regular foundation.. The eyes can be made bigger by running an eyeliner up into the top lashes themselves and smudge. Don’t apply it on the bottom and follow with mascara. Additionally, you can use a deep shadow by the base of the lashes and swoop it outward to rim the eye and extend them. It’s a technique I always use on eyes like yours and seems to work every time!

  60. Mr.Blair i have a square face, medium complexion and small chinese type eyes. Can u plz tell me what kinda make-up rituals to do to make them look bigger?

    1. Rati,
I love the new Blue Dahlia Compact. The colors are amazing, the story is very modern and for Indian women these colors are perfect!!!! Combine it with the Double wear liners and a light lip color or gloss and you will be right on steps with colors for the season!
      Blair
