I do not understand the women’s world. Although I get a good glimpse of it, more often than other men do, because of IMBB, I still fail to understand the emotions, frailties, and the hidden strengths that sometime shine through it all. Most of my time is spent in being a silent spectator and in thinking about growth of IMBB. I am always full of ideas. And for every idea that we implement on IMBB, we discard 10 others that we don’t. In essence I have only two fears in life- one that Rati might stop loving me some day and two that IMBB would stop growing. I hope that neither of them happens. 🙂
I am still grappling with the truth that women really really like makeup. I am still learning to digest that a woman can go and buy two more lipsticks even though the earlier ones are still not over. I am getting aware that if a woman loses weight, other women become conscious of it. In men’s world, if someone loses weight we drink more beer and celebrate it. 😀
So while I’m still understanding the nitty gritty of the world I’m a big part of, I cannot but notice that the entire IMBB- Rati, Jomol, Neha, Zeeba, Nidhi, Era, Ida and all our awesome contributors are doing a fabulous fabulous job. Hats off to them, I have one thing to say about IMBB- you might love IMBB or you might hate IMBB but you would never stop reading IMBB. More so since the smileys are back 😀
We completed our three years a few months back and this year has started on a fabulous note, sudden colorful outbursts of OOTDs from so many women, Jomol and Neha having fun with their makeup, Zeeba socializing with brands, Nidhi enjoying that she converted her love for fitness into a dynamic blog, and Rati and I experimenting with travel and fashion. Fun all around. And through all these chaotically different worlds, we all have managed to work cohesively. Un-frigging-believable. 🙂
So while I’m writing this to tell all our IMBB fans that we are growing strong, and we are growing strong in many directions, I also wanted to share how we see IMBB as, and what most people/ brands overlook about IMBB. When most people talk to us about IMBB, they are focussed on ‘how much traffic you are getting?’ ‘how much money are you making?’ etc. etc. etc. Yes we are doing great there too. But our thoughts are way way different from traffic, revenue, brand collaborations, free products etc. So I’m going to share something deeper that IMBB is and about which you may not have thought about earlier.
People’ Voice
We often discuss about going the ‘magazines way’- getting professional writers, pictures, models etc. These ideas are trashed as soon as they arrive. IMBB has become, and will be becoming more and more, a platform where a common woman can raise voice against a brand and will be heard. I really like that and would want it to stay like that. Many IMBB contributors may not know but brands take notice of their reviews silently. And they take action on that. Could you believe that a single woman sitting in Bhopal or Ranchi or Delhi or Bangalore can determine the future of makeup products of companies? It is happening already on our blog. To me this is the biggest thing that can happen. This is what IMBB was made for. 🙂
Women’s Empowerment
I have learnt that a woman sitting at home and not having an income of her own feels dependent on her husband/ father. But if she earns even 10 Rs. on her own its her pride and joy. It’s like you open your piggybank and see all the money there is and you are happy that its yours and you can do anything with it. 🙂 As IMBB grows, we would love to empower more and more women to earn on their own; we would love to have a bigger IMBB team and thousands of writers covering all gamut of female life. Whatever small IMBB can contribute to making women independent, we would be really proud of doing so. 🙂
Happiness And a Smile
Happiness is by no means a small thing. Life is not fair to any of us. Life is hard, and tough, and it’s an uphill task everyday. And somehow, somewhere, fighting our daily battles, we forget to smile. We forget to feel good about anything. When people talk about getting old, the only thing I feel is that more you grow older the less you smile. And of course laughing out loud is certainly out of question for some people. And this why we try to keep IMBB a happy place. We want this to be the small secret corner of happiness for everyone. That someone opens IMBB in her office for ten minutes, reads a review or comment, and smiles. What we wouldn’t give for millions of those smiles. I bet that most bloggers and readers don’t think about this small thing at all. They should. Happiness is a rarity on the internet. So Happiness- IMBB haz it. 😀
Makeup, Beauty, and All Things Pretty
Last but not the least, I love the way IMBB is exploring the concept of beauty. To me, a woman is beautiful if she’s comfortable with oneself. Whether you are outrageously fashionable or a simply-dressed homemaker. Whether you are thin or plump, fair or dark, rich or not-so-rich, if you’re a happy person who’s comfortable inside you’re worth million dollars. We get a lot of emails where females say that they had forgotten their love for beauty after their marriage but they found it again through IMBB. And lots of single girls who have been told that makeup is wrong or whatever. Wrong or right, it is one’s own personal choice. And if someone loves makeup you should not stop her from doing makeup. Simple as that. And this is why I love how IMBB is growing into so many facets of beauty- fashion, fitness, health, and travel also. IMBB is exposing women to how beautiful they can be. And that, I think, is the essence of IMBB. 🙂
That is how we see IMBB people. Traffic will come. Money will also come. But what we are chasing is something more beautiful than that. 🙂

As I mentioned once, I began reading IMBB when I was not in a very happy place in life, so what you’ve said about happiness especially resonates with me. While I always loved pretty things, IMBB sort of gave me a home and a place to indulge that love without feeling guilty… this is, above all, a place to celebrate everything that’s beautiful in life, and I don’t just mean lipcolor or trinkets. I do read other beauty and fashion blogs on a regular basis, some very glossy and glam, but nothing quite captures the feeling of community, wellness and banter that IMBB has…and reading your thoughts on what you choose to emphasise on, makes it clear why that is so. yes , imbb is a place of happiness…..just last week,,,,,at around 12 in the night i was so stressed because i wasnt prepared well for the next day’s mock exam and was also worried about my board exams and then i came on imbb for a few minutes and that was the day that those smileys were introduced and i became so happy to see them,,,,i was laughing and was commenting on posts and using those funny smileys and i went to sleep with a smile!!
and about empowering ,,,,yes imbb has empowered me! earlier i coudnt buy anything of my own…thanks to my not getting pocket money….but now i can buy small things even if its a small thing of 50 rupees…..and it makes me so happy that im spending the money which i have earned all by myself and even later when i go for job interviews i can say that i have worked on imbb!!
It was a matter of destiny that i came across imbb about a year ago!! i feel so blessed for that….and the whole imbb team keep on with your honest and sincere work!

There’s not a single day which goes by without seeing imbb.i got to know product which truly work and which dont.i also see in many other blogs that they seem to write glowing reviews about some product which the PR has sent them(some dont even mention that its PR sent!) *spank* .and before knowing all this,i used to believe and buy them and sadly many were duds.but here on imbb,knowing that imbb is not affliated with any brand,i’m so confident about the reviews *pompom* .

this is seriously on of the best written articles at imbb. u know i hve an addiction that i visit imbb after every one hour, no matter how busy i am. i have been too busy.nowadays to comment or read full articles but i definitely keep visiting. when i saw this article n started reading it in d noon i cudnt stop myself from reading whole of it, though i was sitting in the ward n a patient was killing me with his useless questions but i knew i had to read it. rofl
i so agree with all the things u mentioned sanjeev sir. imbb has given me a lot of confidence n freedom. i have been a very studious person my entire life n imbb gave me confidence that i m capable of doin anything other than studying like writing reviews n taking care of my looks

Wow! What a refreshing change and how inspiring to have someone talk about family culture, empowerment, believing in oneself rather than revenue generation and bottom lines!! Sanjeev, I guess you already know that you have a flair for writing…but I am not discounting that from the sentiment conveyed!
I just saw this article now coz have been travelling and off-network so obviously backtracked to see what all I missed. (Happy Birthday to you and to Rati and Anniversary greeting to Mrs & Mr Jomol!!) Your article makes me write back and not be a silent observer becoz I do think IMBB is an amazing platform created by an equally amazing team. I have been silently reading the blog for ages….no, not reading…consulting the blog for ages! So much so that, on my last trip abroad, I practically hung out of my balcony window (to get better network…hubby was using the laptop, you see!! *waaa* ), to check on the products i had seen in the day….before buying them!! *scared*
THe one thing which struck me about the blog (more than the reviews at times) was the easy banter between the IMBB members…your team, the readers, the reviewers, etc! It made me want to be a part of this team. It just took me back a decade to my first job and the culture we had! Anyhow, I have been a little unsuccessful but hope to join this team soon….they say “third time is the charm”!!
