I will be reviewing the Sephora Blockbuster palette 2010 that I received for my birthday, which was a while ago, but I finally got around to reviewing it and doing some swatches.
The Sephora blockbuster palette comes in a compact cube shaped black box, which also has Sephora’s trademark on it. The case itself is pretty simplistic and has a satiny finish except Sephora’s symbol. As you open the box, which opens on both sides, you see the beautiful array of eye shadows arranged with their family of color. The colors range from blue and greens to copper browns and reds and so on. Any color you could think of in the rainbow, you would find it here as you can see. As you go further, the second level has lip glosses again ranging in many different colors from baby pink to golden to glittery numbers as well. Again, the lips glosses come in many different textures and makes. It is pretty exciting to see them all at once. It is like a new whole world opened up for me! 😛 Moving on to the last level, there are two sides to this as well. One side has 3 beautiful blushes with a compact mirror which is adorable, while the other side has 2 lip liners, 3 eyeliners, mascara, and 6 cream eyeliners in their various compartments. Again, this is such a treat for the eye and make up lovers all around. I really enjoyed playing with all the colors and mixing them to make some interesting combinations.
So I covered the logistics of the Sephora blockbuster palette, let me move on to the quality. Usually, I am not a big fan of Sephora makeup because it is so highly priced but I am not sure if it delivers all the time. Since this was a birthday present, I was not as picky or critical of the palette. Let me tell you that this palette retails for around 50 USD, which is a very good value for all that you get.
First of all, some of the warm eye shadows that I tried were buttery smooth and highly pigmented as you can see in the swatches, but while some cooler tones were a bit chalky and not as pigmented. So in that case, it was a hit or a miss for the eye shadows. The ones that are pigmented apply just as well on the eyelids and fairly easy to blend.
The lip glosses are another story altogether. I have heard many critical comments regarding the lip gloss in the past Sephora blockbuster palettes, and I must agree with those people. The colors or lip glosses are kind of weird to begin with. Of course, there are gorgeous colors, but some just make you go, “Really Sephora? Really?” But then you get over the colors and test them out, again very hit or miss. Some of them come out okay, but most are just too hard. It is hard to extract any color on your fingers or a brush and if you are able to get some color, the plastic smell and hard feel of the glosses just turns me off. I almost never use the glosses, unless to coat my already done lips with some shininess.
The palette includes two lip liners: nude and reddish maroon along with 3 eyeliners: black, blue, and brown. I suppose the lip liners and the eyeliners are interchangeable, but I doubt you would be using blue and black on your lips, but brown is doable. These are decently smooth and easy to use. You don’t get much quantity but I can’t complain. I wish they had included a pencil sharpener as well, but they didn’t. Honestly, I haven’t even looked at the mascara; it looks like the cheap kind and tacky so no go for me. The cream eyeliners are pretty smooth, and easy to use, and have not dried out yet. The only problem with those is that they don’t lock in once you apply them. They can be easily rubbed off even with a light touch. So they are fun to use, but not long lasting. The cream eyeliners do come in adventurous colors like eggplant, turquoise and green.
Last but not least, the blushes in this palette are gorgeous. I really enjoy using them. There are three different shades, one of them being really pinkish, one being a bronzer shade, and the last one is a mixture of the two with some peach and shimmery undertones. You can see the swatches to see how pretty they are! I love playing up my cheeks with them! They wear for a pretty long time and a quite buildable.
I really enjoy having this palette around, but I don’t reach for it much just because I have my go to shadows and make-up that I am so used to on a daily basis, but at the same time, I do reach for it when I want to do something adventurous and fun and experiment with my looks a little. To sum it up, this palette has 84 eye shadows, 60 lip glosses, 3 blushes, 2 lip liners, 3 eyeliners, 6 cream liners, 6 matte eye shadows, 6 sparkling eye shadows, eye shadow applicators, blush brush, lip brush, and mascara along with a booklet that tells you how to do various looks. I hope you enjoyed this little journey into the Sephora blockbuster palette 2010.
